Alphonso Mango Export Shipment Booking for Wholesale Buyers

By Prashant Powle  •  0 comments  •   5 minute read

Alphonso mango export shipment being packed and loaded onto an export cargo truck at Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, India, for wholesale buyers.

An Alphonso export shipment booking starts with a written enquiry giving destination, quantity, size grade, Incoterm and shipment window. We hold APEDA registration 225579. Export price, minimum quantity, credit terms and freight are quoted per enquiry; none is published, so nothing here should be read as a rate.

The booking path, step by step

A wholesale export booking is a sequence, and most of the delays come from doing the steps out of order. The usual order is below. Each step is something to agree in writing.

  1. Enquiry with destination, quantity, grade, Incoterm and dates.
  2. Quotation with price basis, validity and payment terms.
  3. Confirmation of the destination's import conditions and treatment needs.
  4. Payment as agreed, such as advance or a letter of credit.
  5. Harvest and packing against the confirmed order.
  6. Export documents and phytosanitary certificate.
  7. Dispatch and handover under the agreed Incoterm.
  8. Tracking and arrival checks by the importer.

Our own terms for steps 2 to 4 are set per enquiry. I will not give you a rate or a minimum here, because none is published.

What to put in the enquiry

Item Why we need it
Destination and port or airport Decides rules, mode and freight
Quantity and number of shipments Decides harvest planning
Size grade (150-300 g range) Decides grading and box
Incoterm Decides who pays and who carries risk
Payment method Decides release of goods
Labelling or certificate needs Decides lead time

Documents to agree before dispatch

  • Commercial invoice and packing list.
  • Phytosanitary certificate from India's plant quarantine authority.
  • Any certificate of origin your bank or customs asks for.
  • APEDA and other registration references; ours is APEDA 225579, FSSAI Central Licence 10020022011783.
  • Test evidence, if your importer needs it. Ask at enquiry stage.

Destination rules vary and change, so get the importer's list in writing. For the wider picture see the guide to export regulations in India.

Timing against the ripening clock

Fruit is harvested to order, hand-picked with a pole and catching net so it never falls, then graded and given a controlled hot-water treatment before ripening on hay beds, as Brand Facts states. Mangoes ship semi-ripe and keep ripening in transit. A worked example. If the fruit needs about a week to finish ripening and your transit is two days by air, it arrives with several days left. If transit is three weeks by sea, the clock may run out. That calculation belongs in the booking, not in the complaint afterwards.

Season is usually February to June; the 2027 season is listed to start 1 February 2027. Book against live dates.

Where bookings go wrong

  • Price compared without the Incoterm, so one quote hides freight.
  • Destination rules checked after the fruit is packed.
  • Payment terms discussed after the quote has expired.
  • Ripening and transit planned separately.
  • Test evidence requested after shipment.

Quality and carbide

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally (on hay beds, as our FAQ states). Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. It releases acetylene and can carry arsenic and phosphorus impurities; controlled ethylene up to 100 ppm is permitted. Street sellers call carbide "masala". Brand Facts states weekly carbide and residue testing by Envirocare Labs. A float test is only a rough clue; only a lab test proves it.

Domestic orders, for contrast

Domestic orders are far simpler. Dozens are ₹1,849 to ₹2,999, delivery is free, payment is prepaid and orders before 1:00 PM IST dispatch the same day, Monday to Saturday, by BlueDart. Claims go in within 24 hours of delivery, with photos. These terms do not carry over to export shipments. See the shipping policy.

Frequently asked questions

How do I book an Alphonso export shipment?

Send a written enquiry with destination, quantity, size grade, Incoterm and shipment window. A quotation follows with price basis, validity and payment terms, all agreed per enquiry.

What documents does an export shipment need?

Typically a commercial invoice, packing list and phytosanitary certificate, plus any certificate of origin the buyer's bank or customs requires. Confirm the destination's list in writing.

Do you publish a minimum export quantity?

No. Minimum quantity, price, credit terms and freight are quoted per enquiry. Nothing in this guide is a rate.

Are you registered with APEDA?

Yes. APEDA registration 225579 is listed on our export page and can be verified on apeda.gov.in.

Is sea freight suitable for Alphonso?

It depends on transit time against the ripening window. Fruit ships semi-ripe and keeps ripening, so long sea transits risk over-ripening. Plan both together.

Are the mangoes carbide-free?

Yes. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Carbide is prohibited for ripening under FSSAI Regulation 2.3.5.

When can I book for the 2027 season?

The 2027 season is listed to start 1 February 2027, with Alphonso usually available February to June. Enquire in December or January for early planning.
