Advance Order Alphonso Mangoes for an Event

Naturally ripened Alphonso mango platters and aamras arranged on an Indian wedding buffet table

For an event, order Alphonso at least a week ahead, because fruit ships semi-ripe and needs a few days at room temperature to ripen. Plan roughly one to two fruit per guest, choose one grade, and remember that fresh fruit can be postponed by only 2 days, and only before dispatch.

How far ahead should you order?

Earlier than feels necessary. Three clocks run at once: dispatch, transit and ripening.

Dispatch is Monday to Saturday, and orders received before 1 PM IST can leave the same day. Transit is next day to metros and many areas, and one to three days elsewhere, longer for remote and hill areas. Then ripening at your end, usually a few days at room temperature, longer if the fruit is very firm. Add a buffer day for a courier delay. That is how a week becomes the minimum.

An event with a fixed date is the worst case for a perishable. Do not order on the Tuesday for a Saturday function and hope.

How many mangoes per guest?

Depends on the role the mango plays.

  • Dessert, sliced: half to one fruit per guest.
  • Main sweet, such as aamras: about one fruit per two guests (the pulp goes far).
  • Platter plus take-home: two fruit per guest.

These are planning figures, not rules. Appetite, a big family table and a sweet tooth will push the number up. Always round up by a dozen. A ripe mango left over is a gift. A shortfall at the table is a memory.

Which grade suits an event?

Medium, for almost everything. For aamras or shrikhand, use small and save money. For a showpiece platter, large or above. Weight bands per fruit: small 150-180 g, medium 180-220 g, large 225-250 g, extra large 250-275 g, jumbo 275-300 g.

Grade 1 dozen 2 dozen
Small Rs 1,849 Rs 3,499
Medium Rs 2,099 Rs 3,999
Large Rs 2,499 Rs 4,699 / 4,749
Extra large Rs 2,699 Rs 4,999
Jumbo Rs 2,999 Rs 5,399 / 5,499

Choose from Ratnagiri Alphonso or Devgad Alphonso.

Worked example: a 60-guest function

Illustrative. A dessert course, one-half to one fruit per guest, say 45 fruit. Round up to 4 dozens, 48 fruit. Medium fruit.

Option A: four single dozens at Rs 2,099 = Rs 8,396. Option B: two two-dozen packs at Rs 3,999 = Rs 7,998. Option B saves Rs 398. Weight: 48 medium fruit is roughly 8.6 to 10.6 kg, so Rs 7,998 comes to about Rs 755 to Rs 930 per kg (approximate). Add a fifth dozen of small fruit for aamras at Rs 1,849, and the total is Rs 9,847. If your event is a big one, speak to the team about bulk by enquiry; terms are confirmed in the quote, and no discount is promised here.

Also decide who receives the cartons. Someone must be at the address on the first attempt, and the fruit needs a cool, ventilated room, not a hot hall.

What can change after you book

Before dispatch: change address or phone, postpone fresh fruit by a maximum of 2 days, cancel free with a full refund. After dispatch: address change only within the same city if the courier accepts, and no cancellation of fresh fruit. If your event date can move, ask yourself whether 2 days of slack is enough. If not, order closer to the date, with a buffer for ripening, rather than far ahead. The shipping policy has the detail, and the Monthly Pass page covers staggered deliveries.

Ripening and the carbide rule

Spread cartons out the day they arrive. Single layer, room temperature, ventilated, not in sun. Check daily. When fruit smells sweet at the stalk and gives softly, move it to a cool place. Serve within a few days of ripening.

Event buyers are tempted by 'ready now' fruit, which is exactly where forced ripening hides. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the FSS (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. It releases acetylene and can carry arsenic and phosphorus impurities. FSSAI permits controlled ethylene up to 100 ppm; the current text is at fssai.gov.in. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally (on hay beds, as our FAQ states). White or grey powder in a carton is a warning; the float test is only a clue.

Frequently asked questions

How early should I order mangoes for an event?

At least a week ahead. Dispatch, transit and a few days of ripening at room temperature all need to fit before your date, and a buffer day for courier delay is wise.

How many mangoes do I need per guest?

Half to one fruit per guest for sliced dessert, about one per two guests for aamras, two per guest for a platter plus take-home. Round up by a dozen.

Can I postpone delivery if my event moves?

Fresh fruit can be postponed by a maximum of 2 days, only before dispatch. For bigger moves, ask the team whether cancelling and reordering is better.

Do you use carbide?

No. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally, on hay beds. Carbide is prohibited for ripening under FSSAI rules.

Is there a bulk discount for events?

Volume discounts are not published. Two-dozen packs cost less than two single dozens (for example Rs 3,999 vs Rs 4,198 for medium). For larger quantities, ask for a quote.

Is delivery free?

Yes, on every order to serviceable PIN codes, with no minimum order value. Payment is prepaid only. The checkout price is the full price.

What if some fruit arrives damaged?

Send photos or video and your order number within 24 hours of delivery on WhatsApp +91 70830 75556. Choose a replacement or refund.
