Who this page is about, and why it exists
People search for the name behind a food business before they pay, and they should. Mangoes are bought on trust: you cannot taste the fruit through a screen, and a box that arrives two days later is either good or it is not. So here is the plain version of who runs this.
I am Prashant Powle, founder of AlphonsoMango.in. The site is operated by Powle Home Foods. This article is written in the first person only where it is about me; it does not tell you stories I cannot back with a document. There is a longer profile on the author page, and the facts below are the ones the store also publishes elsewhere.
What the business does
AlphonsoMango.in sells Alphonso mangoes (Hapus in Marathi) from Ratnagiri and Devgad, plus Alphonso pulp and gift boxes. Fruit is sold by the dozen in five grades: small 150–180 g at ₹1,849, medium 180–220 g at ₹2,099, large 225–250 g at ₹2,499, extra large 250–275 g at ₹2,699, and jumbo 275–300 g at ₹2,999 (2026 prices). Pulp is ₹590 for 850 g and ₹2,100 for 3.1 kg. Gift boxes start at ₹2,249. Gir Kesar is listed as a separate variety, not as Alphonso.
The 2027 season is listed to start on 1 February 2027. No 2027 prices have been announced, so any figure you see for 2027 elsewhere is not ours.
How the fruit is sourced
Our Brand Facts page states that fruit comes from 48+ villages across Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, a corridor of roughly 600 km along the Konkan coast. Partner orchards are described as sea-facing, with trees typically 12 to 25 years old. The page also lists the harvest steps: hand harvesting with a pole and catching net, grading, a controlled hot-water treatment, cooling, and ripening on hay beds in temperature-controlled rooms.
Our Editorial Standards page adds that mangoes are sourced with consultation and examination by senior agricultural specialists, an outsourced team visits farms before fruit is picked, and partner farmers follow the company's SOPs for farming, harvesting and packing. I am quoting what the pages state. I will not claim more than that here, and I will not name individual farmers or orchards in an article, because a name on a blog post proves nothing. See also Our Farmers.
What happens to an order
Fruit is harvested to order, packed against the order and shipped semi-ripe. Orders placed before 1:00 PM IST, Monday to Saturday, dispatch the same day. BlueDart carries fresh fruit to serviceable PIN codes; around 14,000 PIN codes are not served today, with about 7,000 more planned by January 2027 and more courier partners from December 2026. Delivery is free. Payment is prepaid only, with no cash on delivery. Tracking comes by email and WhatsApp.
If something arrives damaged, send photos with your order number within 24 hours. An approved claim gets a replacement or a refund; replacement or refund is processed within 2 business days of approval, and refunds reach your account within 7 business days. Full terms are on the shipping and return pages.
What we say, and what we do not say
It helps to be explicit about limits. We do not publish customer counts, awards, lab results or testimonial quotes in these articles, because I do not have documents to attach to them. The Brand Facts page states that carbide and pesticide-residue testing is carried out weekly through the season by Envirocare Labs; I am reporting that statement, not adding any result of my own.
We also do not publish a GST invoice policy, bulk-order minimums, credit terms or dealer margins on the site. If you need those, ask the team and get the answer in writing in the quote. That is a fairer deal than a guess from a blog.
How to check any claim yourself
- Read the GI numbers on the official GI Registry (ipindia.gov.in) and match them to the authorised-user numbers below.
- Look up the FSSAI Central Licence 10020022011783 at fssai.gov.in.
- Confirm APEDA registration 225579 on the APEDA website.
- Match the registered address (Kurla West, Mumbai 400070) with what is printed on your invoice or box.
- Message the team on WhatsApp +91 70830 75556 and see how fast and how specifically they answer.
None of this requires trusting me. That is the point of listing it.
Ripening and the carbide question
Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India (Regulation 2.3.5, Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011). It releases acetylene and can carry arsenic and phosphorus impurities. FSSAI permits controlled ethylene ripening up to 100 ppm; read the current text at fssai.gov.in. In the trade, carbide is called "masala", and a white or grey powder (calcium hydroxide) in a box is a warning sign.
We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally (on hay beds, as our FAQ states). The float test is a rough clue only, not proof. Only a laboratory test proves how a mango was ripened.
