The store is built around one fruit, Alphonso, with a few other mangoes and a small dry fruit range around it.

The Alphonso at the centre of the store
Alphonso is called Hapus or Aam in Maharashtra. We source it across 55 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Alphonso from this belt is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139, and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). Ratnagiri is a district; Devgad is a taluka in neighbouring Sindhudurg district. Both grow the same variety, and we sell both without ranking one above the other.

Alphonso fruit generally weighs 150 to 300 g and has non-fibrous pulp. It is sold here by the dozen, and a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Bigger grades cost more, so pick the grade for the use: smaller fruit for eating by the slice, larger fruit for gifting. If you want the two origin names explained in more detail, read our Ratnagiri and Devgad Hapus guide.
The harvest is done at Brahma Muhurta, before dawn, and the fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net. Alphonso is picked about February to June, and the best supply runs from March to May. Outside that window we do not sell fresh Alphonso.
Kesar, Pairi and the rest of the range
Many buyers come for Alphonso and leave with a second box. Kesar is a Gujarat mango with saffron-coloured pulp; Wikipedia records that it was grown in 1931 by the Junagadh wazir Sale Bhai and was named Kesar around 1934 by the Nawab of Junagadh, as Wikipedia and Zee News report. Its market window is generally April and May, a little later than the first Alphonso.
Pairi is a different mango again, well liked for aamras and for eating by the slice. Dasheri, Totapuri, Salem and Malgova are also listed, each on its own page with its own availability, so open the product page to see what is on offer. Fresh mango variants are shown as unavailable until the season opens, and the pages update when stock arrives.
If you are comparing varieties before buying, our guide to Indian mango varieties lists them with notes. For fresh mango in a city near you, see the mango online near me page.
Dry fruits and cashews in the same cart
Besides mangoes, the store sells dry fruits and nuts, and you can add them to the same cart. The cashew range is the largest: W180 Cashew Nuts, W240 Cashew Nuts, W320 Cashew Nuts, Cashew Nut Split, Broken Cashew Kaju Tukda, and roasted, salted, masala and with-skin cashews.

We also list dried apricot, figs, dates, raisins, almonds, walnuts, chia and other seeds. These are sold year-round, which is why many customers use the store outside the mango months. Each product page shows its own pack sizes and price, so check the product page for the current price. For a view of the whole dry fruit range, start from the dry fruits collection.
How we ripen and pack the fruit
We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller.
Harvest to ripening of Alphonso takes about 15 days, so a box may arrive with some fruit still firm. Keep the fruit at room temperature in a single layer and eat each mango as it softens; a sweet smell at the stalk is a good sign. Do not refrigerate firm fruit. Our guide to ripening Alphonso at home has the full method.

If the box brings more ripe fruit than you can eat, the pulp keeps well. The sheera in the picture was made with Alphonso pulp, and our aamras recipe shows the simplest use.
Buying from the store: season, delivery and contact

Not sure how much to order? A dozen of Alphonso is a lot of fruit for one person, so many households share a dozen between two homes or pair a smaller grade with a pulp tin for later. First-time buyers can start with one dozen and add a second when they know how fast the family eats. Orders are placed on the website; support@alphonsomango.in answers questions before you pay.
A mango box needs someone at home to receive it, so give an address where a person will be present. If you plan to gift a box, see our gifting page. Season timing is covered in the Alphonso mango season guide.
