Aam ki peti means a box of mangoes. Online, a peti of Alphonso (Mangifera indica 'Alphonso', GI No. 139) is sold as 1 dozen or 2 dozen, and net fruit weight depends on grade, about 1.8 to 3.6 kg per dozen. Fresh fruit is out of season until the 1 February 2027 opening.

Key takeaways

  • Peti means box; aam ki peti means a box of mangoes, and the number of fruit in it is not fixed by the word.
  • On AlphonsoMango.in the box is sold as 1 dozen (12 fruit) or 2 dozen (24 fruit), in five size bands from 150 g to 300 g per fruit.
  • Net fruit weight of a dozen is about 1.8 to 3.6 kg depending on the grade (arithmetic estimate, shown below).
  • Listed prices on 12 October 2026 run from Rs 1,849 to Rs 2,999 per dozen.
  • Fresh fruit is out of season as of 12 October 2026; the store-announced 2027 opening is 1 February 2027.

What does aam ki peti mean?

Peti is a Hindi and Marathi word for a box, so aam ki peti is a box of mangoes. In English the phrase is usually rendered as a mango box or a crate of mangoes. The word does not fix a count: families and sellers use it for different quantities, so a price quoted for a peti only makes sense once you know the number of fruit and the fruit size.

That is why this page counts in dozens and kilograms. On this store a dozen is 12 fruit of one grade. The wider guide to buying a mango box online in India covers the other box formats, and the mango peti price guide compares prices.

How many kg is one peti of mangoes?

A dozen of the smallest grade weighs about 1.8 to 2.2 kg of fruit and a dozen of the largest about 3.3 to 3.6 kg. These are arithmetic estimates: 12 fruit multiplied by the stated weight range of each fruit, before the box, hay and sleeves are added. Courier weight is higher.

Estimated net fruit weight and listed price by grade, 1 dozen
Grade Weight per fruit Estimated net weight, 1 dozen Price listed 12 October 2026
Small 150-180 g about 1.8-2.2 kg Rs 1,849
Medium 180-225 g about 2.2-2.7 kg Rs 2,099
Large 225-250 g about 2.7-3.0 kg Rs 2,499
Extra Large 250-275 g about 3.0-3.3 kg Rs 2,699
Jumbo 275-300 g about 3.3-3.6 kg Rs 2,999

A 2-dozen box doubles the fruit weight. The 2-dozen small grade was listed at Rs 3,499 on 12 October 2026; larger 2-dozen grades are on the product pages, where the exact band for each origin is shown. (Source: AlphonsoMango.in product listings, 12 October 2026; weights are calculated, not weighed per box.)

What is inside the box?

The outer carton is a top-and-bottom 5-ply corrugated fibreboard box (130 gsm paper, alternate flute orientation, courier-grade) with reinforced corners and edges. Inside, a 12-slot partition carries the transit pressure so the fruit does not, each mango sits in a foam-net sleeve, and the fruit rests on a hay bed. Six air holes on the top and bottom allow airflow during ripening. (Source: Powle Home Foods packing specification.)

Fruit is dispatched at 70 to 80% ripeness and ripens fully within about three days of delivery. It is hay-bed ripened, with no carbide and no ethylene chambers.

Ratnagiri or Devgad for a peti?

Both origins fall under Alphonso GI No. 139, which covers Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra, and both are sold under the authorised-user number AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019). (Source: GI Registry of India; Powle Home Foods sourcing records.)

Repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers shows that buyers in north India lean Ratnagiri while Mumbai buyers lean Devgad. This is a reorder pattern, not a rule. The product pages for Ratnagiri Alphonso and Devgad Alphonso carry the current sizes and prices.

Is a Kesar box different?

Yes. Gir Kesar (Mangifera indica 'Kesar', GI Tag No. 185) from the Girnar foothills in Junagadh district, Gujarat, is sold by box weight instead of by the dozen. Listed on 12 October 2026: a small box of 1.4 to 1.6 kg (4 to 6 pieces) at Rs 999 and a box of 2.7 to 3 kg (8 to 12 pieces) at Rs 1,699. See the Gir Kesar product page for the current pack details.

Brix range and quality testing

Brix range. Ripe Alphonso is typically in the Brix 18 to 24 range, with Devgad fruit typically at the upper end (range stated by Powle Home Foods; Brix varies by lot, fruit and ripeness, so ask for the figure on the lot you are considering).

Testing. Powle Home Foods schedules weekly carbide and pesticide-residue testing from the 2027 season. The one third-party report published so far is from Envirocare Labs (NABL accredited), dated 5 April 2025, on an Alphonso sample from an export consignment: all 28 residues tested were within Codex limits. That report applies to that sample only; it is not a guarantee for other batches. Ask on WhatsApp which test records exist for the lot you are considering.
