Aam ki peti means a box of mangoes, and the price depends on variety, grade and fruit count. Alphonso from AlphonsoMango.in starts from Rs 1,849 per dozen for Ratnagiri or Devgad. Always ask any seller for the number of fruits and the weight.
What aam ki peti means
Peti is the Hindi and Marathi word for a box or crate. Aam ki peti, also written aam peti or amba peti in Marathi, is therefore a box of mangoes. People searching for a mango peti usually mean a boxed lot of Alphonso, called Hapus in Maharashtra, sent home or gifted at the start of summer.
The word does not fix a quantity. One seller's peti may hold a different number of fruits from another's, and the weight changes with the size of the fruit. We do not quote a single standard count for a peti. We sell by the dozen, which is a clear count of 12, and we tell you the weight range so you can compare.

These are the "from" prices on our store. Check the product page for today's price, because grade and size change the amount.
| Option | Price |
|---|---|
| Alphonso, Ratnagiri or Devgad, 1 dozen | from Rs 1,849 |
| Largest Ratnagiri Alphonso option | up to Rs 5,399 |
| Largest listing on the order-online page | up to Rs 10,499 |
| Kesar mango box | from Rs 999 |
| Pairi mango, 1 dozen | Rs 2,799 |
The spread is wide because the same dozen can hold small fruit or large fruit. Fresh mangoes are sold only in season. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027, and outside the season fresh Alphonso is not sold. You can see the options on the Ratnagiri Alphonso page, the Devgad Alphonso page, the Kesar mango page and the Pairi mango page.
How many mangoes and how many kg in a peti
These are two of the most searched questions, and the honest answer is that it depends on the seller and the grade. The safe way to compare is to ask for both the fruit count and the weight.
- Count: a dozen is 12 fruits whatever the grade. Any other count should be stated by the seller in writing.
- Weight: a dozen of our Alphonso weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Alphonso fruit generally weighs 150 to 300 g, so 12 smaller fruits come to about 1.8 kg and 12 larger ones to about 3.3 kg.
- Not every dozen is Alphonso: Alphonso, Kesar and Pairi can all be sold by the dozen, so check the variety on the label.
Because of this spread, a "peti" quoted by weight alone can hide a very different number of fruits. If the seller says 3 kg but will not give the count, you cannot judge the price. For a deeper look at dozens, read our guide to a dozen of mangoes and how many Alphonso mangoes come in a box.
How to compare peti quotes fairly
Two quotes for "one peti" are rarely the same product. Put the same questions to every seller before you compare rupees.
- Variety and origin. Is it Alphonso (Hapus), Kesar or Pairi, and which area does it come from?
- Fruit count and weight. How many fruits, and what weight range per fruit or per box?
- Grade. How is fruit sorted by size, and what does the grade name mean?
- Ripening. How was the fruit ripened, and will it arrive ripe or raw?
- Packing and delivery. Which courier, which dates, and what is covered if fruit arrives damaged?
- Credentials. Is there an FSSAI licence number, and for Alphonso, a GI Authorised User certificate?
For us, the answers are these. Fruit is sourced across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. We hold FSSAI licensing, and GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139), which you can verify on our Brand Facts page. We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. Damage should be reported within 24 hours of delivery.
Aam ki peti and the gifting custom
In Maharashtra and many other states, sending a box of Alphonso to family at the start of summer is a familiar gesture. People send boxes to parents, to relatives in other cities and to colleagues. The Alphonso variety is named after Afonso de Albuquerque, and mango grafting was introduced in Portuguese Goa by Jesuit missionaries, which is part of why Konkan orchards grew the variety so widely.
If you are gifting, order early in the season and give the recipient's PIN code at checkout so you can check delivery. For group or business gifting, read our corporate gifting guide and the mango gift box ideas.
Ripening and quality: what to expect in a peti
Fruit that arrives in a box is usually harvested mature and finished ripening in transit or at home. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Selling fruit ripened with carbide is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011, so ask every seller how their fruit is ripened.
When the box arrives, open it, lay the fruit out in a single layer and let it finish ripening at room temperature. Eat the soft, fragrant ones first. The vitamin C in raw mango is about 36 mg per 100 g, roughly 40% of the Daily Value. Our Alphonso nutrition guide goes further.
