Mango in Delhi: three varieties we send

Mango in Delhi: order fresh mangoes online from AlphonsoMango.in

Delhi buyers usually start with one question: which mango should I order? We sell three fresh varieties by the dozen. Alphonso (Hapus) comes from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt of the Konkan coast. Kesar comes from Gujarat. Pairi, also written Payari, is a third variety on our store. Each has its own product page and its own price.

We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. We started selling offline in 2019 and online in 2020, and we have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller and we send every box by Blue Dart.

Alphonso, Kesar or Pairi: how to choose

Alphonso, Kesar and Pairi on AlphonsoMango.in
Variety Where it grows Starting price Product page
Alphonso (Hapus) Ratnagiri and Devgad, Konkan, Maharashtra From Rs 1,849 per dozen Ratnagiri Alphonso and Devgad Alphonso
Kesar Gir region, Gujarat Rs 999 for a half dozen, Rs 1,699 for a dozen Kesar Mango
Pairi Sold as a separate variety From Rs 2,799 per dozen Pairi Mango

Alphonso is the fruit most Delhi buyers ask about, and it is the only one of the three for which we hold a GI credential: GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). Kesar is known for its orange pulp. It is said to have been grown in 1931 by the Junagadh Wazir Sale Bhai, and to have been called Kesar since 1934, when the Nawab of Junagadh remarked on its orange pulp.

If you are buying for the first time and want only one box, buy the variety you grew up eating. If you are curious, take a dozen of Alphonso and a half dozen of Kesar and compare them yourself.

Delhi mangoes and Konkan Alphonso are different fruit

Delhi has its own mango culture. Uttar Pradesh, one of India's biggest mango-growing states, sends Dasheri, Langra and Chausa to the capital, and the city has a mango festival of its own. Our article on the mango festival in Delhi covers that side of the story. We do not sell Dasheri, Langra or Chausa, so we cannot compare them with our fruit with any authority.

What we can say is that Alphonso is a Konkan fruit and does not grow around Delhi. The Konkan is the stretch of the western coast between the Arabian Sea and the Deccan Plateau, and Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are among its districts. Fruit for Delhi has to travel from there, and that is why the ripening method and the origin are worth asking about.

Delivery to Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida

We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. We do not promise a delivery day for any named city or area, because the PIN code is what decides it. Enter the PIN code of your flat or office in Delhi, Gurgaon or Noida and read what checkout shows.

When the box arrives, open it straight away. Report any damage to us within 24 hours of delivery. Ripen the fruit at room temperature, and put only ripe fruit in the fridge.

How we ripen the fruit

Carbide ripening is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Our Alphonso is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, at Brahma Muhurta, the pre-dawn hour.

Whoever you buy from, ask three questions: where did the fruit grow, how was it ripened, and how many fruits are in the box. A sticker is not an answer. Our guide on artificial ripening of mangoes goes through the same questions in more detail.

Buying mango online or from a Delhi market

A market lets you smell the fruit and pick each piece. An online order lets you choose the origin and the variety, and it reaches your door without a trip. Both can work. What matters is the same list of questions.

What to compare when you buy mango in Delhi
Question Market stall Online order

Ripening Ask the seller Stated on the page
Count and size You see the fruit Dozen with a size grade
Price Quoted at the stall Listed on the product page

For the price side of this, our guides to Alphonso mango price in Delhi and Kesar mango price in Delhi go into detail.

Season dates and what to make with the fruit

Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside the season we do not sell fresh Alphonso, and Alphonso pulp tins are available all year in 850 g and 3.1 kg sizes from Rs 590 on the Alphonso Mango Pulp page.

Ripe fruit goes well in aamras, milkshakes and plain slices. Pulp from a tin works for the same dishes. Keep ripe fruit in the fridge for a few days, and keep unripe fruit out of it. Kesar also comes in a half dozen at Rs 999, which is the lowest-cost way on our store to try a new variety.
