How many Alphonso Mangoes in the Mango box? - AlphonsoMango.in

A dozen mango box holds 12 fruits, whatever the grade. A dozen Alphonso box from AlphonsoMango.in weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade, with prices from Rs 1,849. Peti only means box, so always ask the seller for the fruit count.

How many mangoes in a dozen box

1 dajan mango — Alphonso aam in box, 12 fruits, naturally ripened, Konkan sourced

A dozen is 12. That never changes with grade, origin or price. When someone asks for "1 dajan mango" or "ek darjan aam", they mean 12 fruits. Some people write dozen as "dajan" or "darjan".

What changes from one box to the next is the weight of each fruit, and therefore the weight of the box and its price. A dozen of small fruit and a dozen of extra-large fruit both have 12 mangoes, but the second box can be nearly twice as heavy.

At AlphonsoMango.in, our Alphonso dozen boxes carry Alphonso (Hapus) from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. We source across 48 villages there. We hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 for Alphonso, GI No. 139, Ratnagiri. The details are on our Brand Facts page.

Dozen mango weight and box sizes

People often search for "how many kg in 1 dozen mango" or "6 dozen mango weight". The answer is a range. A dozen Alphonso weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade, which is simple arithmetic on that range, about 150 g to 275 g per fruit on average. Individual fruit vary. Wikipedia describes Alphonso fruit as generally weighing 150 to 300 g, a similar range.

The table below is simple arithmetic on that range. Use it to plan, not as a promise for one specific box. Actual weight depends on the grade you pick.

Boxes Fruits Approx. weight of fruit in the box
1 dozen 12 1.8 to 3.3 kg
2 dozen 24 3.6 to 6.6 kg
4 dozen 48 7.2 to 13.2 kg
6 dozen 72 10.8 to 19.8 kg

A few things follow from this:

  • A box sold as "1 kg" holds roughly four to seven Alphonso, so it is not a dozen. A "2 kg" box may be a dozen of small grade, so always ask for the fruit count.
  • On the same arithmetic, a 10 kg box holds roughly 36 to 66 Alphonso on average. Always ask for the count, not just the kilos.
  • Gross weight on a courier slip is higher than fruit weight because it includes the box and packing.

If you want a fixed number of fruits for a gift or a family, buy by the dozen. If you want a fixed weight for aamras or a function, buy by grade and ask us about quantity before you order. For larger quantities, write to us first.

What 1 peti mango means

Alphonso mango peti — 1 dozen mango box showing foam-sleeved fruits in a wooden crate

"Peti" is the Hindi and Marathi word for a box or crate. "Aam ki peti" in Hindi and "ambyachi peti" in Marathi both mean a box of mangoes. "Hapus peti" means a box of Alphonso. Peti has no fixed size or count.

Peti is not a fixed count, so ask the seller how many fruits it holds. When you search "1 peti mango quantity" or "how many mangoes in one peti", the right answer is that it depends on who is selling.

Our own listings avoid the confusion. Our Alphonso listings are priced per dozen, 12 fruits, and the product page states the grade. If you also want the background on how boxes are priced and graded, read our guide to aam ki peti price and box sizes.

Alphonso mango box price

These are "from" prices on our live store, and they can change, so check the product page for the current price before you decide.

Option Price
Alphonso, Ratnagiri or Devgad, 1 dozen From Rs 1,849
Largest Ratnagiri Alphonso option Up to Rs 5,399
Largest listing on the order-online page Up to Rs 10,499
Kesar mango From Rs 999 per box
Pairi, 1 dozen Rs 2,799
Alphonso pulp tins, 850 g and 3.1 kg From Rs 590

The spread is wide because grade drives the price. Bigger fruit costs more per piece and more per box. Both the Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso listings start from Rs 1,849 per dozen. Use the Ratnagiri Alphonso page or the Devgad Alphonso page to see each grade, or the order-online page for the full set of listings.

Compare boxes by grade, fruit count and weight, because you pay by the box.

Choosing and ripening your box

Alphonso mangoes in the box — 12 mangoes foam-sleeved, carbide-free, hay-bed ripened

Pick the grade by how you will use the fruit:

  • Smaller grades: cost less per dozen and weigh less.
  • Larger grades: cost more per dozen and are heavier.
  • Kesar: a lower starting price at Rs 999 per box. It is a different mango with its own taste, so it is not a stand-in for Alphonso. See the Kesar mango page.

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.

Keep the fruit at room temperature until it softens slightly. Do not refrigerate unripe mangoes; refrigerate once ripe and eat soon.

One caution on testing. You may have heard of the bucket-of-water test. Treat it as a rough clue, not proof. No home test proves where a mango came from. The better check is the seller: ask for the FSSAI licence and the GI Authorised User details, and read what is published on their Brand Facts page.
