Mangoes online Lucknow - AlphonsoMango.in

You can buy Alphonso mango in Lucknow online from AlphonsoMango.in, which sends Ratnagiri and Devgad Hapus by Blue Dart. Boxes start from Rs 1,849 per dozen. Lucknow grows its own Dasheri, but Alphonso comes from the Konkan coast, so ordering online is the route.

Alphonso mango in Lucknow: why you order it online

Lucknow is a mango city. Dasheri, the local favourite, is closely tied to the city. What you will not find growing around Lucknow is Alphonso. It is a Konkan-coast variety, and the fruit that carries the GI tag, GI No. 139, comes from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt of Maharashtra. If you want Hapus aam in Lucknow (लखनऊ में हापुस आम), the realistic route is to order from the Konkan supply chain and have it sent by courier.

That is what we do. We are Powle Home Foods, based in Kurla West, Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. This page explains how Alphonso differs from the mangoes Lucknow already knows, how delivery to Lucknow works, why Hapus costs what it does, and how to ripen the box when it arrives.

Lucknow, Malihabad and Dasheri

The mango belt around Lucknow is old and well known. According to Wikipedia, the Dasheri mango originated in a village near Malihabad in Lucknow district of Uttar Pradesh and was recognised in the 18th century. The area has grown mangoes for generations, and the city's tastes are shaped by that.

We do not think a Lucknow buyer needs to give up Dasheri. The two fruits are different. We also list a Dasheri mango for those who want it. For Alphonso, expect these differences in the fruit itself:

  • Origin. Alphonso is grown on the Konkan coast, between the Arabian Sea and the Deccan Plateau.
  • Size. Alphonso fruit generally weighs 150 to 300 g, so a dozen is a sizeable box.
  • Texture. Alphonso pulp is described as rich, creamy and non-fibrous.
  • Name. In Maharashtra it is Hapus, and in Hindi it is often written Hapoos or Hafoos.

The easiest way to decide is to taste them side by side. You can order one dozen of Alphonso in the season and keep your usual local mango for everyday eating.

Delivery to Lucknow: can mangoes be couriered?

Yes, mangoes can be couriered, provided the fruit is packed to travel. We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. We do not promise a delivery day for Lucknow in advance, because it depends on the PIN code and the route on that date.

The fruit is sent firm and finishes softening at your home, which is how it survives the journey. When the box reaches your door in Gomti Nagar, Hazratganj, Aliganj, Indira Nagar or anywhere else in the city, open it at once and check the fruit. If any mango is damaged in transit, report it within 24 hours of delivery.

Why Hapus costs more than local mangoes

It is a fair question. Our Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso start from Rs 1,849 per dozen, up to Rs 5,399 for the largest Ratnagiri option, and we sell by the dozen rather than by the kilo. A dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Check the product page for today's price.

Here is what sits behind the price, without any exaggeration:

  • The GI-protected growing area is a narrow strip of the Konkan coast, and the trees give one crop a year.
  • Fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole and a catching net, and harvest is done at Brahma Muhurta, before dawn.
  • Fruit is graded by size, which is why the same box comes in several weight bands.
  • Delivery from the Konkan and Mumbai to Uttar Pradesh is a long trip for a fresh fruit.

Our guide to why Alphonso is costly goes into this further.

Ratnagiri or Devgad: which box to pick

A common question is whether Ratnagiri or Devgad is the better Alphonso. They are the same variety, grown in neighbouring parts of the Konkan, and we do not rank one above the other. Pick on the size and price that suit your household and on what is in stock when you order. A smaller grade suits eating fresh and sharing, while a larger grade suits a gift or a family that goes through fruit quickly. Our guide to Ratnagiri and Devgad Hapus explains where each place is.

GI tag, ripening and what to ask

Alphonso is easy to imitate with a similar-looking mango, so ask for specifics. We hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139), and our Brand Facts page lists the licence details. The tag is about origin. It does not tell you the grade or how the fruit was ripened, so those need their own questions.

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller. No home test proves how a mango was ripened, and a bucket-of-water test is only a rough clue, not proof, so rely on the seller's answers. Our guide to carbide-ripened mangoes lists what to ask.

Season and what to use after it

Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027, and fresh fruit shows as unavailable until then. Outside the season we do not sell fresh Alphonso. The Alphonso mango pulp tin is available all year in 850 g and 3.1 kg sizes, and it works for aamras, kulfi and shakes. Our aamras recipe shows a simple version.

When your box arrives, keep the mangoes at room temperature, away from sun, and do not refrigerate unripe fruit. Ripe mangoes smell sweet near the stalk. See our guide to ripening Alphonso at home for the full method.

Mango fairs, shops and online

Mango fairs and shops are good places to taste local varieties. For Alphonso with paperwork behind it, ask the seller for the GI details and how the fruit was ripened. If you would like to compare, our page on the Delhi mango festival explains what such a fair offers and how to buy Alphonso afterwards. You can also see our guide to Alphonso mango in Lucknow.
