Griha Pravesh and Housewarming Mango Gifts: A Fruit Gift That Fits the Occasion

By Prashant Powle  •   7 minute read

A griha pravesh fruit gift box works best as a dozen Alphonso mangoes, ordered ahead and sent to the new home when someone can receive it. Alphonso dozens start from Rs 1,849 and Kesar from Rs 999 per box. Season opens 1 February 2027.

A griha pravesh or housewarming gift has one problem that a birthday gift does not: the date is not yours. The family fixes the ceremony, and the gift has to land around it, at an address that may still be full of boxes. This article is about that specific problem and how a mango gift fits it. For general box and hamper choices, see our guide to mango gift box and hamper ideas. Prices below are "from" prices and can change; check the product page for the current price.

Why fruit suits a housewarming gift

People usually give a new home something useful, something decorative or something to eat. Food has an advantage in a house that is still being set up: it does not need a shelf, it does not clash with the interiors, and it can be shared with the guests who come to visit. Fresh Alphonso (Hapus) is also a fruit that most Indian families recognise as a treat, so the gift needs no explanation.

There are limits. Fresh mangoes are seasonal, they need to be eaten within days of ripening, and they should reach a person, not an empty doorstep. If you are happy with those conditions, a dozen of Ratnagiri Alphonso or Devgad Alphonso is a simple, generous choice. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.

Which mango gift to pick for a griha pravesh

Choose by your relationship with the family and by how many people will share the fruit. These are starting points, not rules.

Who you are A sensible pick From
Close relative or best friend One dozen of Ratnagiri Alphonso or Devgad Alphonso, in a larger grade if you want the box to look special Rs 1,849 a dozen; larger grades cost more
Neighbour, colleague or family friend One dozen of Ratnagiri Alphonso, or Kesar if you want a lower budget Rs 1,849 a dozen, or Rs 999 per box
Several relatives giving together One larger box instead of several small ones, so the family is not left with too much fruit Check the order-online page for bigger listings
The ceremony is outside mango season A pulp tin, freeze-dried cubes or cashews, explained plainly as a different kind of gift Pulp tins from Rs 590

A dozen of ours weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. A family hosting a ceremony will have many mouths, so a dozen goes quickly. If you want a gift that is mainly for the family, not for the crowd, a smaller or lower-priced box is enough. For a wider view of mango gifts by occasion, see mango gifts by occasion.

Sending a gift to a new home: the practical points

A new address is where a delivery can go wrong, so check these before you pay:

  • The address and PIN code. Ask the family for the full address and the PIN code of the new home, not the old one. Enter the PIN code at checkout.
  • A phone number of someone who will be there. A courier may need to call. A number for a family member or a helper is better than a number that rings in the old house.
  • A person to receive the box. Fresh fruit should not wait outside a door. If the family has not moved in yet, send the gift to a relative's address that they are using, and say so in your message.
  • Timing against the ceremony. Place the order well ahead. We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. We cannot promise a delivery date, so do not leave the order to the last day.
  • A heads-up to the family. Tell them the box is coming, so that it is not left unopened.

You can place an order on the website at any hour, but that only means the order is received. It does not change when the box is dispatched or delivered. For the wider picture, see why fresh mangoes need planning and online gift delivery in India.

If the ceremony falls outside the mango season

Fresh Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. Our 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside the season we do not sell fresh Alphonso, so there is no fresh mango to send.

You have three options:

  • Send Alphonso pulp tins, which are available all year in 850 g and 3.1 kg sizes from Rs 590. They are not a fresh-fruit gift; they are for aamras, milkshakes and desserts, so tell the family what the tin is.
  • Send freeze-dried Alphonso cubes or cashews, which keep longer than fresh fruit.
  • Wait for the season and send the mangoes a little after the ceremony, with a message that they are on their way. A late gift that is fresh is better than an on-time gift that is rushed.

Our fruit is sourced across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Our GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139) is listed on the Brand Facts page.

What to ask any seller before you order a housewarming gift

  • Which variety and origin is the fruit, and what grade?
  • Roughly how many pieces and how much weight is in the box?
  • Will the fruit arrive ready to eat, or needing a few days to ripen?
  • What is the full price at checkout, including delivery?
  • Can the box go to an address other than the billing address?
  • What is the window for reporting damage? With us, report any damage within 24 hours of delivery through the contact page.

How we can help

For one gift, the quickest route is the product page: pick Ratnagiri Alphonso or Devgad Alphonso, enter the family's address and check the PIN code. If several people want to send gifts to the same family, or you have a list of recipients and dates, use the gift enquiry form and tell us the quantity, cities and dates; we will reply with what we can do. You can also read about gifting on the gifting page, or browse the mango collection.

People also ask

What is a good fruit gift for a griha pravesh?

A dozen Alphonso mangoes is a good fruit gift when the ceremony falls in season, roughly February to June. It is easy to recognise and share. Our Alphonso dozens start from Rs 1,849 and Kesar boxes from Rs 999. Outside the season, choose a pulp tin or cashews instead.

Can I send mangoes as a housewarming gift to a new home?

Yes, in season. Enter the new home's full address and PIN code at checkout, add a phone number of someone who will be there, and tell the family the box is coming. We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery.

How far ahead should I order a housewarming mango gift?

Order well ahead of the ceremony and never on the last day, because we cannot promise a delivery date. It depends on dispatch and the PIN code. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027, so a ceremony before that needs a different gift, such as a pulp tin.

What can I gift for a housewarming outside the mango season?

Alphonso pulp tins are available all year, in 850 g and 3.1 kg sizes from Rs 590. Freeze-dried Alphonso cubes and cashews also keep longer than fresh fruit. A pulp tin is not fresh fruit, so tell the family what it is and how to use it.
