Free shipping on Alphonso mangoes in Mumbai: the honest answer

People search for "free shipping Alphonso mangoes Mumbai" hoping the courier cost disappears. Here is how it works with us. Shipping is worked out at checkout from your PIN code and the weight of the box. If a shipping offer applies to your order, the checkout shows it before you pay; if it does not, you see the exact charge. We would rather you see a plain number than read a promise on a blog page that the checkout then contradicts.

We are Powle Home Foods, based in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. We have sold mangoes since 2019, online since 2020, and have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. Mumbai is where we started and where a large share of our boxes still go. Charges by destination, and how they compare for a one-dozen and a two-dozen box, are set out in our shipping charges guide.

A dozen Alphonso weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade, so the courier cost is a modest share of a box that starts from Rs 1,849. Two dozen in one shipment usually costs less to ship per mango than two separate dozen boxes; the checkout shows the difference.

How delivery to Mumbai addresses works

We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. Mumbai PIN codes, from the island city to the suburbs, Thane and Navi Mumbai, go through the same check. We do not promise a delivery day for Mumbai or any other city, because the courier route and your PIN code decide it. Enter the PIN code at checkout and read the message before paying.

Shipping of Alphonso Hapus mangoes from Ratnagiri and Devgad to Mumbai
  • Flats and societies: give the building, wing and flat number, and a landmark; let the watchman know a parcel is due.
  • Offices: use the office PIN code and name the person who will receive the box.
  • Gifts to relatives in Mumbai: place one order per address so each PIN code is checked, and add a message through our gift order form.

If you are ordering for a society or an office, one larger shipment to a single address is easier for the courier and cheaper to ship than many small ones; name one person to receive it and spread the boxes from there.

Open the box on the day it arrives. If anything is damaged, report it within 24 hours of delivery by writing to support@alphonsomango.in or calling 8369048029. Our delivery period for mangoes page explains timings in more detail, and Alphonso mango in Mumbai covers the city more broadly.

What arrives: Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso

Both of our Alphonso listings are the same variety, the Hapus that Mumbai grew up on, from across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Ratnagiri is a district; Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district. Both fall under GI No. 139, and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). We do not rank one above the other, and both start from Rs 1,849 per dozen.

Alphonso fruits generally weigh 150 to 300 g, and the pulp is described as rich, creamy and non-fibrous. Mango cultivars of the Indian group are monoembryonic, so a named variety such as Alphonso is propagated by grafting. Our fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net. For a longer comparison see Ratnagiri and Devgad Hapus guide.

Ripening in Mumbai weather

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011; ethylene up to 100 ppm is the permitted alternative. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller.

Harvest to ripening of Alphonso takes about 15 days, so a box can arrive with a mix of ripe and firm fruit. Mumbai is warm and humid through the whole season, so fruit finishes ripening at home quickly. Keep the mangoes in a single layer at room temperature, away from the window and the stove, and check them every day. A sweet smell at the stalk and a slight give at the shoulder mean ripe. Do not refrigerate firm fruit; chill a mango only once it is soft, and eat it within a day or two. The full method is in how to ripen Alphonso mango.

Season, other mangoes and pulp

Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside the season we do not sell fresh Alphonso in Mumbai or anywhere else. Alphonso pulp tins (850 g and 3.1 kg, from Rs 590) are available all year and ship on the same checkout terms. Our Alphonso mango season in Mumbai page has the month-by-month picture.

In season we also list Kesar from Gujarat (half dozen Rs 999, dozen Rs 1,699) and Pairi (from Rs 2,799 per dozen), plus Dasheri, Totapuri, Salem and Malgova on their own pages. Everything is in the mango collection. Mangoes carry natural sugars; 100 g of raw mango provides about 36 mg of vitamin C, roughly 40% of the Daily Value.
