Shipping Charges Explained

What Affects the Shipping Cost

Four things determine what you pay for delivery.

Distance and delivery zone. A dozen mangoes travelling to Delhi costs more to ship than the same box going to Pune, because the courier leg is longer and the fruit is more perishable in transit. Remote pin codes — hill stations, smaller towns in the northeast — attract higher rates because courier density is low there.

Weight and box size. We ship in 3.5 kg and 4 kg courier-grade corrugated boxes. Couriers charge by actual weight or dimensional weight, whichever is higher. A 2-dozen order is heavier but the per-mango shipping cost drops, so larger orders are proportionally cheaper to send.

Courier partner assigned to your pin code. We dispatch through BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on which carrier covers your area best. Each has its own zone-based rate card. We route your order to the fastest option for your pin, not necessarily the cheapest for us.

Season timing. We only ship fresh Alphonso from February to June, peaking March to May. There are no fresh mango deliveries between July and January. If you place an order outside the season, we will tell you clearly — we do not hold stock or ship cold-stored fruit.

Mumbai Deliveries

If you live in Mumbai, our rider team carries boxes directly from the packhouse to your door. That eliminates most of the courier handling cost, so Mumbai shipping charges are lower than anywhere else we deliver. The fruit also arrives faster — often same day or next morning after dispatch.

Deliveries Outside Mumbai

For every other city and town in India, shipping charges range from ₹280 to ₹700 per dozen. The ₹280 figure applies to nearby metros; the ₹700 figure covers longer or more remote routes. Your exact charge appears at checkout once you enter your pin code.

We do not hide the shipping cost or add it after payment. What you see at checkout is what you pay.

Ratnagiri vs Devgad — Which to Order

Feature Ratnagiri Alphonso Devgad Alphonso

Both varieties come from our sourcing network of 100+ partner farmer families in Konkan. Prashant Powle selects orchards based on Brix consistency, tree age (typically 12–25 years), and alternate-bearing management — not just geography.

Delivery Across India

From harvest to dispatch takes 48–72 hours. Here is the route: the fruit leaves the orchard within about 2 hours of picking, reaches the Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse for grading and cooling, travels 10–12 hours by air-conditioned vehicle to our Mumbai packhouse, spends 24–48 hours on a hay bed ripening naturally, then goes out with the courier.

Once dispatched, transit times run:

  • Mumbai: same day to next day (rider team)
  • Pune, Nashik, Surat: 20–24 hours
  • Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai: 1–2 days
  • Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Jaipur: 1–2 days
  • Smaller towns, remote pin codes: up to 3 days

We cover 15,000–17,000 serviceable pin codes. If your pin code falls outside our network, we say so at checkout — we do not ship and hope for the best.

Every box is a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard carton with a 12-slot partition. Each fruit sits in a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm) on a hay bed. The partition carries the transit pressure so the mangoes do not. Six air holes on the top and bottom keep airflow going during the ripening phase after the box arrives with you.

We dispatch fruit at 70–80% ripeness. It is firm enough for the journey and ripens fully within about three days of delivery at room temperature.

If a mango arrives damaged, photograph it and contact us within 24 hours of delivery. We replace damaged fruit — that is our policy.

Ripening and Packaging

Natural hay-bed ripening — called Aadi ripening — is the only method we use. The 24–48 hours at the Mumbai packhouse is monitored, temperature-controlled, and triggered by nothing except the fruit's own ethylene. No calcium carbide, no ethylene injection, no cold-store blending.

We get asked about carbide every season. Our answer: every batch is independently tested by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd. (Thane, NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284). The April 2025 report (01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025) tested 28 pesticide residues — 27 were below the limit of quantification, and one (thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg) was well within the Codex maximum of 0.2 mg/kg. We say "independently tested, all residues within Codex limits." We do not say "pesticide-free" — one residue was detected, within permitted limits.

Before dispatch, every mango is weighed, graded by size (Small 150–180 g; Medium 180–225 g; Extra Large 250–275 g; Jumbo 275–300 g), and scanned by our AI/ML-assisted machine for internal issues such as spongy tissue and external deformities. Fruit that does not pass does not go into a box.

GI Certification and Authenticity

Powle Home Foods holds GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260, issued by the GI Registry on 16 October 2019 (Certificate No. 4163, GI No. 139). This is the credential that permits us to label and sell fruit as authentic Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso. Fewer than 300 entities in India hold this authorised user status for Alphonso.

We are also registered with FSSAI (10020022011783) and APEDA (225579), which governs our export shipments to the US, UK, UAE, Singapore and Japan.

Prashant Powle was interviewed by The Economic Times in June 2026 as a GI-certified Alphonso grower and trader on the year's weather impact and yield pressures. That reporting record matters — it means our sourcing claims are on the record.

How to Order

  1. Select your grade. Visit the mango collection, choose Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso, and pick the weight grade that suits you — Small (150–180 g), Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g) or Jumbo (275–300 g).
  2. Add to cart. Choose your box size — half dozen, 1 dozen or 2 dozen — and enter your pin code to see the exact shipping charge and confirm serviceability before you pay.
  3. Dispatch. We send your order through BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code; most Indian cities receive their mangoes within 1–3 days of dispatch.

Season and Availability

Fresh Alphonso is available February to June. Peak season — when Brix hits 18–24° and supply is most consistent — runs March to May. Orders placed in March for Devgad fruit from villages like Dahibav or Kunkeshwar typically ship within 2–3 days of confirmation, because the orchards are at full production.

We do not sell fresh Alphonso between July and January. If you land on this page in October looking to order, we will tell you honestly: the season is closed. You can read our guide on storing and enjoying mangoes and sign up to be notified when the next season opens.

46% of our 47,000+ customers reorder in the same or the following season. The average customer orders 2.8 boxes per season. That data tells us the fruit arrives well — people do not reorder damaged goods.

People Also Ask

What are the shipping charges?

Shipping charges for Alphonso mangoes outside Mumbai range from ₹280 to ₹700 per dozen, depending on your pin code and destination. Mumbai deliveries cost less because our rider team handles those directly. Your exact charge appears at checkout once you enter your pin code — nothing is added after payment.

For remote pin codes or hill stations, expect the higher end of that range; nearby metros like Pune or Surat typically fall closer to ₹280.

How do I calculate my shipping fee?

Enter your pin code at checkout and the fee appears automatically — no manual calculation needed. Four things shape the number: your distance from Mumbai, your box size (3.5 kg or 4 kg), which courier partner covers your area, and whether you order one dozen or two. Larger orders cost more in total but less per mango to ship.

Orders within Mumbai are handled by our own rider team, so the checkout figure will be lower than the ₹280–₹700 range that applies to the rest of India.

Is $20 shipping expensive?

For fresh Alphonso mangoes shipped from Konkan to most Indian cities, ₹280–₹700 per dozen is the realistic range — roughly $3 to $9 at current exchange rates, well below $20. A $20 shipping charge would only make sense for international exports to the US, UK, UAE or Japan, where air freight and customs handling apply.

If you are ordering within India and seeing a figure near $20 equivalent, check that you have entered an Indian delivery address and pin code at checkout.

Why are shipping costs so high in 2026?

Fresh Alphonso mangoes are perishable, heavy, and season-bound to February–June, which limits how couriers can plan their loads. Air-conditioned transport from our Ratnagiri and Devgad packhouses to Mumbai, plus the 48–72-hour harvest-to-dispatch window, means we pay for speed and cold handling — and that cost passes through to the shipping rate.

Routing through BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees by pin code gets your order there in 1–3 days, but courier zone-rate cards across India have risen with fuel and handling costs, which is reflected in the ₹280–₹700 range outside Mumbai.
