Ratnagiri vs Devgad: Which Should You Order?
Both carry GI No. 139 under the GI Registry of India. The difference is real but subtle, and repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers shows a clear pattern: north India leans Ratnagiri, Mumbai leans Devgad.

Delivery Across India
Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness — firm enough for transit, ready to eat within about three days of delivery. The supply chain runs like this: harvest in Ratnagiri or Devgad villages (Pawas, Golap, Devgad, Jamsande — whichever orchard is ready that week), two hours to the packhouse, post-harvest cooling, 10–12 hours in an air-conditioned vehicle to our Mumbai packhouse, 24–48 hours of natural hay-bed ripening there, then dispatch.
Dispatch is by BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. Transit is 20–24 hours to metro cities, 1–3 days elsewhere. We serve 15,000–17,000 pin codes across India. No fresh Alphonso ships July to January — that is an honest limit, and anyone claiming otherwise is not selling Ratnagiri Hapus.
Each box is a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard courier-grade carton with a 12-slot partition, six air holes for airflow during ripening, and every mango wrapped in a foam-net sleeve to prevent skin friction (Alphonso lenticels blacken when rubbed) and vibration damage in transit.
How to Order
- Select your grade. Choose Small (150–180 g, from ₹1,849 per dozen), Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g) or Jumbo (275–300 g) based on how you plan to eat them — smaller fruits are best for Aamras, Jumbo for slicing at the table.
- Add to cart. Pick half dozen, 1 dozen or 2 dozen. Corporate or gift orders of 5 dozen and above qualify for HoReCa rates — use the contact form on the site.
- Dispatch. Your box ships via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code, reaching most Indian cities in 1–3 days. Transit-damaged or quality-failed fruit is replaced with a fresh dispatch or credited to your account — report within 24 hours of delivery with a photo or video on WhatsApp; no physical return is needed.
Origin and Authenticity
Where can I buy genuine Ratnagiri Alphonso mangoes online?
AlphonsoMango.in (Powle Home Foods) is a GI Authorised User (AU/5974/GI/139/260) sourcing from 55 named villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Every fruit is weighed, graded and scanned by AI/ML-assisted equipment for internal defects before packing. Order at alphonsomango.in/products/ratnagiri-alphonso-mango, from ₹1,849 per dozen.
What is the GI No. of Ratnagiri Alphonso?
Ratnagiri Alphonso (Hapus) carries GI Tag No. 139, registered with the GI Registry of India. Powle Home Foods holds GI Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019. Devgad Alphonso carries the same GI No. 139 — both districts are covered under one tag, covering Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.
How is Ratnagiri Hapus different from other Alphonso?
The coastal laterite soil of Ratnagiri, the sea-facing microclimate and orchards that are typically 12–25 years old produce a Brix level of 18–24° at full ripeness — a range confirmed by TNAU Agritech Portal data for GI-tagged varieties. Most market mangoes are carbide-ripened and lack traceability to a specific village. Ours trace to Pawas, Golap, Nachane and 52 other named villages. That traceability is the difference.
Ratnagiri Alphonso mango price per dozen
Ratnagiri Alphonso starts at ₹1,849 per dozen for Small grade (150–180 g per fruit) and rises with weight and season scarcity. Jumbo grade (275–300 g) is priced higher. The full price table is on the product page. Prices reflect GI-certified, carbide-free fruit dispatched within 48–72 hours of harvest — not cold-store blended stock.
When is the best time to order Ratnagiri Hapus?
March to May is peak season. Fruit quality is most consistent mid-March through end of April. Early-season February fruit can be available but yields are lower. By June, volumes thin and the largest grades sell out first. Order by end of April to guarantee choice of grade. No fresh Alphonso is available July to January.
How the Fruit Ripens
Every mango you receive from us has been ripened on hay — not in an ethylene chamber, not with calcium carbide. The process at our Mumbai packhouse is 24–48 hours on a hay bed in a temperature-controlled room. The hay absorbs moisture, the natural heat of the fruit does the rest. Prashant Powle calls it the Aadi method — the same way Konkan households have ripened Hapus for generations.
Residue testing is done weekly through the season by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane (NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284). The April 2025 report (01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025) found all 28 tested residues within Codex maximum residue limits; 27 of 28 were below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). One residue — thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg — was detected within the 0.2 mg/kg Codex limit. We say independently tested, all residues within Codex limits. We do not say pesticide-free.
Post-harvest, each fruit gets a hot-water treatment to reduce surface issues and extend shelf life, then cooling at the packhouse before the 10–12-hour air-conditioned road journey to Mumbai. The full harvest-to-dispatch window is 48–72 hours.
Nutrition, Storage and Gifting
How nutritious is Ratnagiri Alphonso?
Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 RDA for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Mangiferin, a bioactive compound in Alphonso, showed anti-inflammatory activity in a 2011 cell study by Govindappa et al. Nutrition data verified against USDA FoodData Central.
How should I store the mangoes after delivery?
Leave fruit at room temperature until fully ripe — skin yields slightly to gentle pressure and the stem end smells of honey. Once ripe, refrigerate and eat within two days. Do not refrigerate unripe Alphonso; cold temperature arrests ripening and ruins texture. Alphonso puree is suitable for babies from about 6 months as a serving suggestion (not medical advice).
Can I order Ratnagiri Hapus as a gift?
18% of our orders are gifts. The 5-ply corrugated box with foam-net sleeves looks clean enough for a corporate gifting table. For bulk multi-destination dispatch — events, delegations, office gifting — HoReCa orders start at 5 dozen (about 15–20 kg). Contact us directly for corporate rates.

People Also Ask
What is the price of 1 kg of Hapus mango?
Ratnagiri Hapus is sold by the dozen, not by the kilogram. At AlphonsoMango.in, Small grade (150–180 g per fruit) starts at ₹1,849 per dozen. A dozen Small-grade fruits weighs roughly 1.8–2.2 kg, so the effective per-kg cost depends on the grade you choose.
Jumbo grade (275–300 g per fruit) costs more per dozen but gives you more pulp per fruit — useful if you are buying for slicing rather than Aamras.
What is the cost of Ratnagiri Alphonso mango?
Ratnagiri Alphonso at AlphonsoMango.in starts at ₹1,849 per dozen for Small grade (150–180 g per fruit). Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g) and Jumbo (275–300 g) are priced higher. All grades are GI-tagged, hay-bed ripened and dispatched within 48–72 hours of harvest from Ratnagiri villages like Pawas, Golap and Nachane.
Prices shift through the season — peak March-to-May supply keeps costs relatively stable, but Jumbo grade sells out fastest as June approaches.
Which Ratnagiri mango is best?
Ratnagiri Alphonso (Hapus), GI Tag No. 139, is the defining mango of the region — rich saffron colour, a pronounced aroma and Brix of 18–24° at full ripeness. No other Ratnagiri variety compares in sweetness, shelf stability or national recognition. Jumbo grade (275–300 g) is best for slicing; Small grade suits Aamras.
For a direct comparison, order a dozen Ratnagiri alongside a dozen Devgad — 46% of our customers reorder, and most form a firm preference by their second box.
What is the price of 1kg of Alphonso mango pulp?
AlphonsoMango.in sells Alphonso mango pulp (Aamras) in fixed pack sizes, not loose by the kilogram. The current price and pack options are listed on the product page at alphonsomango.in. The pulp is made from GI-tagged Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso fruit, hay-bed ripened and processed without artificial ripening agents.
