Amazing Healthy Hapus a tasty fruit - AlphonsoMango.in

Hapus is the Marathi name for the Alphonso mango. This guide explains how to choose a ripe Hapus mango, how we ripen our fruit on hay beds, when fresh fruit is in season and how to buy Hapus mango online by the dozen.

What Hapus mango is

Hapus is the Marathi name for the Alphonso mango, the variety most people mean when they ask for Hapus. Hapus and Alphonso are one variety, so a box labelled either name is the same fruit. The name on the box does not change the fruit, but the origin and the certificate should be clear on the product page.

Our Hapus comes from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. Ratnagiri is a district, and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district. Alphonso from this belt is listed in India under GI No. 139, and we describe it that way on our product pages.

How to choose a ripe Hapus

Hapus Alphonso mangoes from AlphonsoMango.in, ready to check on arrival

Start by looking at the box on arrival. Fruit should be whole, with no split skin and no soft patches. Look for even colour across the skin, smooth skin and a clean aroma. A sweet smell near the stalk end is a good sign that the fruit is ready or close to ready.

Check the fruit by gentle thumb pressure, not by squeezing. A ripe mango gives slightly under the thumb. Firm fruit is not yet ready, and it needs a few days at room temperature. A sour or fermented smell means the fruit has passed its best, so eat it at once and report it within 24 hours of delivery if it arrived that way.

For a fuller guide to reading each mango, see the selection, storage and ripening guide. It covers the same checks in more detail.

How we ripen our Hapus

Harvest for all our Alphonso is done at Brahma Muhurta, the pre-dawn hours, so the fruit is picked in the cool of the morning. From there it is handled as a perishable product, packed and dispatched by Blue Dart.

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.

Ripening takes time, so plan the order for the day you want to eat or serve the fruit. Do not chill firm fruit, because cold slows the ripening it still needs. Once a mango is ripe, eat it promptly for the best flavour.

Ratnagiri or Devgad Hapus

Both are Alphonso, and both are sold by the dozen in the same box sizes. Our fruit is sourced across 55 villages in the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt, and the origin you choose is a matter of preference on the label. We do not rank one above the other, and we do not claim that either ripens earlier or later.

Our Ratnagiri fruit is covered by GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139), and our Devgad fruit is covered by certificate AU/6932. Compare the two product pages, the Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango page and the Devgad Alphonso Mango page, for the sizes on offer and the current price.

Dozen sizes and price

We sell Hapus by the dozen, not by weight, and we do not quote a per-kg rate. Alphonso is listed from Rs 1,849 per dozen, and the largest Ratnagiri option goes up to Rs 5,399. A dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade, so the box size you choose decides how much fruit you receive.

For eating whole or sliced, a larger fruit means fewer pieces to cut. For aamras, shakes and kulfi, any size works, and smaller sizes cost less per dozen. For gifting, even fruit in a larger size looks best in a box.

Season, pulp and the 2027 season

Fresh Alphonso is harvested about February to June, and supply is best from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside the season fresh Alphonso is not sold, and the stock shown on each product page changes as the season moves on.

The Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin is available all year in 850 g and 3.1 kg tins, from Rs 590. It is made from Alphonso and is a practical choice for shakes, desserts and kulfi when fresh fruit is out of season.

Delivery and damage

We dispatch by Blue Dart. About 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery, but we do not promise a day for every city, so enter your PIN code at checkout to see the option for your address.

If fruit arrives damaged, report it within 24 hours of delivery to support@alphonsomango.in or on 8369048029. Open the box on arrival, lay the fruit in a single layer at room temperature and keep it out of direct sun.

Ways to enjoy Hapus

Most buyers eat Hapus fresh, sliced or cut into cubes. Many make aamras, a smooth pulp served with puris, and others blend the fruit into milkshakes or use it as the base for kulfi. The fruit suits all of these uses, so choose the box size for the one you plan first.

For a gathering, plan the number of fruits per guest before you order. Cut fruit goes further on a dessert platter than whole fruit does on the table, so decide how the fruit will be served and then choose the box.

Kesar and Pairi

Kesar is a different variety from Alphonso. It is sold as a half-dozen from Rs 999 or a dozen from Rs 1,699, and the Kesar mango page sets out the options. Pairi is listed from Rs 2,799 for a dozen. We do not describe Kesar or Pairi with GI wording.

People also ask

Is Hapus the same as Alphonso mango?

Yes. Hapus is the Marathi name for the Alphonso mango, so a box labelled Hapus or Alphonso is the same variety. The name on the box does not change the fruit. Check the origin and the certificate on any listing before you order, because those details tell you what you are buying.

How can I tell if a Hapus mango is ripe?

Look for even colour and smooth skin, and smell the stalk end, where a ripe fruit has a sweet aroma. Then press gently with the thumb. A ripe mango gives slightly under pressure. If the fruit is firm, leave it at room temperature for a few days and check it each day until it is ready.

Is Hapus mango ripened with carbide?

No. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds, and harvest is done at Brahma Muhurta, the pre-dawn hours. Ask any seller how their fruit was ripened, and expect a clear answer about the process before you order.

When can I buy fresh Hapus mango online?

Fresh Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with supply best from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside the season fresh Alphonso is not sold, but Alphonso mango pulp tins are available all year.

Which is better, Hapus from Ratnagiri or from Devgad?

We do not rank them. Both are Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt, and both are sold by the dozen in the same sizes. Choose the origin you prefer on the label and the box size that suits how you plan to eat the fruit.
