Every fruit here carries GI No. 139 — the Geographical Indication for Alphonso mango covering Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. We source from 48 coastal villages across Ratnagiri and Devgad. Prashant Powle selects orchards personally, favouring sea-facing trees aged 12–25 years that show consistent Brix readings of 18–24° at full ripeness.

Both products have been independently tested by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane (NABL, certificate TC-8284; report 01/ETHAP2500044, 5 April 2025). All 28 residues fell within Codex maximum residue limits; 27 of 28 were below the limit of quantification at 0.01 mg/kg.

Ratnagiri vs Devgad: Which Alphonso?

Both varieties carry the same GI No. 139. The difference is in character, not in legal standing.

Delivery to India

Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.

The supply chain runs tight: harvest to dispatch takes 48–72 hours. After hand-picking in orchards near villages like Pawas (Ratnagiri) or Jamsande (Devgad), the fruit travels by air-conditioned vehicle to the Mumbai packhouse in 10–12 hours. It spends 24–48 hours there on a hay bed to finish natural ripening, then ships.

Each mango sits in a foam-net sleeve inside a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard box with a 12-slot partition. The partition carries transit pressure, not the fruit. Six air holes top and bottom keep airflow going during those final ripening hours after delivery.

If fruit arrives damaged in transit, or if quality fails, report it within 24 hours of delivery with photos or video on WhatsApp. We send a fresh replacement dispatch or credit your account for the next purchase. No physical return is needed. We do not accept claims after the 24-hour window.

Where the Mangoes Come From

Buy mango online India — Konkan orchard sourcing for Alphonso mango

We work with 100+ partner farmer families across 48 villages in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. The orchards are sea-facing — the Konkan coast creates the humidity and salt-wind stress that concentrates sugars in the fruit. Trees are typically 12–25 years old, selected for Brix consistency and sound alternate-bearing management.

Cultivation follows strict SOPs from flowering to harvest: which natural sprays are applied, when, and in what quantity. This is what keeps residues as low as 0.013 mg/kg thiamethoxam against a Codex limit of 0.2 mg/kg.

How the fruit is harvested

No tree is shaken. Pickers use a Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net and a cutting mechanism. For tall trees, an indigenously developed length-extending pole with a camera locates the fruit before cutting. The stem is cut cleanly; the mango never falls to the ground. This matters because a bruise on landing — invisible at harvest — turns spongy within days.

After harvest, every mango goes through post-harvest cooling and a hot-water treatment at the packhouse to reduce surface issues and extend shelf life. Then AI/ML-assisted machine scanning checks each fruit for internal defects (spongy tissue) and external deformities. Every fruit is weighed and graded before it enters a box.

Sourcing villages (selected)

Ratnagiri taluka: Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mavalange, Waravade, Purnagad. Devgad taluka: Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Girye, Kunkeshwar. Malvan and Vengurla talukas: Achara, Tondavali, Shiroda. We pack at our Malvan packing centre and Devgad packing point before air-conditioned transport to Mumbai.

How We Ripen the Fruit

Natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening only, in temperature-controlled rooms. No ethylene chambers, no calcium carbide, no artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours at the Mumbai packhouse is monitored natural ripening on hay — not gas-triggered. The fruit arrives at your door at 70–80% ripeness and completes the process in about three days at room temperature.

This is not a technicality. Carbide-ripened fruit and hay-bed fruit taste different. Carbide forces the peel to yellow while the pulp remains starchy and uneven. Hay-bed ripening lets the pulp convert starch to sugar at its own pace, which is why Alphonso from Ratnagiri or Devgad — ripened correctly — reaches 18–24° Brix all the way through.

Season and Availability

Fresh Alphonso is available February to June, with the peak from March to May. We do not sell fresh Alphonso from July to January — that is a hard stop, not a policy preference. Trees produce one crop per year, and carbide-forced out-of-season fruit is not something we offer.

The 2025 season, Prashant Powle told The Economic Times (June 2026), was one of the hardest on record for yield. Weather stress from unseasonal rain and heat at flowering cut output across Ratnagiri. That piece is worth reading if you want to understand why GI Alphonso prices move year to year: Famous Alphonso mango is facing existential crisis this year.

Ratnagiri Alphonso won the Gold Medal at the national One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2024 — a district-level award recognising the product origin, not a brand award.

Nutrition Facts Worth Knowing

Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 recommended daily intake for men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for women (65 mg/day). The ICMR revised this figure upward from 40 mg/day in 2010, so older articles quoting "100% of daily vitamin C in one mango" are using the superseded number.

Mangiferin, a polyphenol found in mango pulp and peel, showed anti-inflammatory activity in cell studies (Govindappa et al., 2011). That is a cell study — not a clinical trial — and we are not making a health claim from it. The fruit is also suitable as a first food for babies from around 6 months as a serving suggestion; consult your paediatrician if in doubt.
