Alphonso mangoes from Ratnagiri and Devgad — GI Tag No. 139 — are sold online at ₹1,849 to ₹5,499 per box, February to June each year (the 2027 season starts on 1 February 2027), with natural hay-bed ripening and no carbide.
Order Alphonso Mangoes Online
We source alphonso mangoes directly from 48 coastal villages of Ratnagiri and Devgad — villages like Pawas, Golap and Nachane in Ratnagiri taluka, and Devgad, Jamsande and Vijaydurg along the Sindhudurg coast. Every box carries GI Tag No. 139. No middlemen, no cold-store blending. The fruit leaves the orchard within 2 hours of harvest and reaches the Mumbai packhouse in 10–12 hours by air-conditioned transport.
We do not sell fresh Alphonso mangoes July to January. The season runs February to June. The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.
Both varieties carry GI No. 139. Both are tested weekly through the season at Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd. (NABL accredited, Thane — certificate TC-8284, report 01/ETHAP2500044 dated 5 April 2025). All 28 residues were within Codex maximum residue limits; 27 of 28 were below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). We say independently tested and within Codex limits — not pesticide-free, because one residue (thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg against a limit of 0.2 mg/kg) was detected within limits.

Repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers shows a clear pattern: north India leans Ratnagiri, Mumbai leans Devgad. Neither is wrong — they are grown differently, not hierarchically. If you want the higher average Brix, order Devgad. If you want a slightly milder, more even sweetness that suits children and older family members, Ratnagiri is the one.
Delivery Across India
Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness — firm enough to survive transit, ripening fully within about three days of delivery. The full journey: harvest to orchard gate in about 2 hours; air-conditioned transport to the Mumbai packhouse in 10–12 hours; 24–48 hours of natural hay-bed ripening there; then courier dispatch.
We ship via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes. We pack in 5-ply corrugated fibreboard boxes (130 gsm, alternate flute orientation, courier-grade reinforced corners) with a 12-slot partition that takes the transit pressure instead of the fruit. Every mango sits in a foam-net sleeve — flat width 50–55 mm, length 100–120 mm — to prevent side bruising, stem punctures from neighbouring fruit and the friction scars that blacken Alphonso lenticels.
If fruit arrives transit-damaged or fails quality on arrival, report within 24 hours of delivery with photos or video on WhatsApp. No physical return is needed. We dispatch a fresh replacement or credit your account for the next purchase. The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.

Where Alphonso Mangoes Come From
The Alphonso variety arrived in India through Portuguese grafting experiments — Brazilian mango shoots were grafted onto Indian rootstock, likely in Goa, several centuries ago. The name honours Afonso de Albuquerque, the Portuguese viceroy. What no one predicted was how much the variety would adapt to the laterite soil and salt-laden coastal air of the Konkan.
The fruit grown in Devgad's taluka — in villages like Kunkeshwar, Mithbav and Rameshwar — is noticeably different from fruit grown 80 km north in Ratnagiri's Pawas or Golap, even though both carry GI No. 139. Soil depth, altitude, the precise angle of sea exposure and the age of the tree all shift the flavour. Our 100+ partner farmer families manage orchards typically 12–25 years old, selected specifically for Brix consistency and alternate-bearing stability.
The tree is never shaken and the fruit never falls. Prashant Powle's team harvests with a Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net and cutting mechanism. For tall trees, an indigenously developed camera-equipped extending pole is used so the picker can see exactly where to cut. A single bruise from a drop would start browning before the box reaches you.

How We Ripen the Fruit
We use natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening only — in temperature-controlled rooms at the Mumbai packhouse. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours the fruit spends at the packhouse is monitored ripening on hay, not gas-triggered. This is not a marketing claim. It is auditable: Envirocare Labs tests weekly through the season and the post-harvest cooling and hot-water treatment protocols are documented in our process SOPs.
Carbide-ripened fruit yellows from the outside in and often stays white and starchy at the core. Hay-bed fruit yellows from the seed outward — you will notice the stem end deepening first, then the shoulders, then the cheeks. If your Alphonso arrives with an uneven yellow-green patchwork that smells faintly chemical, that is carbide. Ours won't.
Why foam-net sleeves matter
Alphonso lenticels — the small raised dots on the skin — blacken when rubbed against another fruit during transit. A foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm) prevents that friction. It also stops stem punctures from neighbouring fruit, absorbs transit vibration and keeps condensation from triggering anthracnose (a surface mould). We have used this packaging since the first commercial season in 2020 and it is one reason our 4.35★ Judge.me rating (verified buyer reviews) holds across years with different weather.
Nutrition in Alphonso Mangoes
Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 RDA for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Alphonso also contains mangiferin, a xanthonoid studied for anti-inflammatory activity in cell research (Govindappa et al., 2011). We are not a pharmaceutical source — eat the fruit for the flavour and take the nutrition as a bonus.
Alphonso puree is suitable for babies from about 6 months as a first fruit (serving suggestion, not medical advice). 46% of our customers reorder, and the average order across a season is 2.8 boxes — which tells you something about how quickly a household goes through fresh Alphonso.

Season and Availability
When are Alphonso mangoes available?
The season runs February to June, with peak quality March to May. By late June the fruit becomes irregular in size and the Brix drops toward the lower end of the 18–24° range. July to January: we sell no fresh Alphonso. That is an honest limit. We do sell Aamras, mango pulp and other products year-round, but if you want fresh Hapus, it only exists for about 18 weeks each year.
What affects the Alphonso season?
In June 2026, Prashant Powle was interviewed by The Economic Times on exactly this — weather anomalies causing an existential yield crisis for Alphonso growers that year. Unseasonal rain, heat spikes during flowering and fungal pressure on the Konkan coast can cut supply dramatically in a bad year. When that happens, prices rise and availability tightens. The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.
How to Spot Authentic Alphonso Mangoes
Genuine GI-tagged Alphonso from Ratnagiri or Devgad has a golden-yellow skin with a slight green at the stem end when just ripe, a saffron-coloured pulp, and a fibre-free, almost custard-like texture. The aroma is unmistakable — floral and faintly honey-like, strongest near the stem.
What it is not: it is not the deep uniform yellow of a carbide-treated fruit. It is not fibrous. It is not odourless. And it does not have a hollow, watery core. If a box labelled "Hapus" arrives with any of those traits, it was not from a GI-authorised source.
Our GI Authorised User certificate (AU/5974/GI/139/260, GI Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019) covers both Ratnagiri and Devgad fruit. You can verify this against the GI Registry records. FSSAI licence 10020022011783 and APEDA registration 225579 are on file for Powle Home Foods.

People Also Ask
Are Alphonso mangoes available in the US?
Fresh Alphonso mangoes from India face strict USDA phytosanitary requirements, so large-scale commercial imports remain limited. Frozen Alphonso pulp and canned Aamras are more widely available in Indian grocery stores across the US. AlphonsoMango.in currently ships fresh Devgad and Ratnagiri Alphonso within India only, with export buyers in the US receiving fruit through separate trade channels.
Is Alphonso the best mango in the world?
Alphonso from Ratnagiri and Devgad consistently draws that claim from chefs, food writers and export buyers — and the Brix reading of 18 to 24 degrees at full ripeness backs up the sweetness. No single international ranking exists, but the GI protection under Tag No. 139 and the export demand from Japan, the UK and the UAE reflect its reputation.
The honest answer is that taste is personal, but no other mango variety has earned GI protection specifically for its coastal laterite terroir the way Alphonso has in Konkan.
What is the cost of 1 kg Alphonso mango?
Alphonso mangoes sold online in India typically run ₹300–₹600 per kg depending on grade, variety and seller. At alphonsomango.in, boxes start at ₹1,849 for half a dozen fruits — roughly 750 g to 1.35 kg depending on the grade you pick, from Small (150–180 g) to Jumbo (275–300 g).
Devgad Alphonso tops out at ₹5,499 for two dozen; Ratnagiri Alphonso at ₹5,399 — both GI-tagged, graded by weight and dispatched at 70–80% ripeness by air-conditioned transport from the Konkan coast.
Are Alphonso and mango the same?
Alphonso is one variety of mango — Mangifera indica — not a separate fruit. India has over a thousand named mango varieties; Alphonso, called Hapus in Marathi, is one of them, grown mainly in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra and protected under GI Tag No. 139 since 2018.
What sets Alphonso apart from Dashehari, Langra or Totapuri is its combination of low fibre, high Brix (18–24° at full ripeness), saffron-yellow pulp and a shelf life short enough that it rarely travels well without careful cold-chain handling.
