Buy Ratnagiri Hapus Amba: Mango Bliss from Konkan - AlphonsoMango.in

Buy Ratnagiri Hapus Amba from AlphonsoMango.in: Hapus is the Marathi name for Alphonso, and amba means mango. Our Ratnagiri Alphonso is sold by the dozen from Rs 1,849, with Blue Dart delivery. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027.

Hapus, Amba, Aam and Alphonso: what the names mean

People searching to buy Ratnagiri Hapus Amba are using three words for one fruit. Hapus (also spelt Hafoos) is the Marathi name for the Alphonso mango. Amba is the Marathi word for mango, and aam is the Hindi one. Ratnagiri is the district on the Konkan coast whose Alphonso has long been the benchmark in Maharashtra.

The English name comes from Afonso de Albuquerque. Mango grafting was introduced in Portuguese Goa by Jesuit missionaries, and because Indian-group mangoes are monoembryonic, a named variety such as Alphonso is propagated by grafting rather than from seed. The fruit generally weighs 150 to 300 g, with soft, non-fibrous flesh.

We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. We have sold mangoes since 2019, online since 2020, and have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. We source Alphonso across 55 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt. Our guide to the Hapus Amba in Marathi goes through the language.

What you can buy as Ratnagiri Hapus

The product page is Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango. It lists dozen and two-dozen boxes in five size grades. A dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade.

Ratnagiri Alphonso prices by size grade
Fruit size (each) 1 dozen 2 dozen
150 to 180 g Rs 1,849 Rs 3,499
180 to 225 g Rs 2,099 Rs 3,999
225 to 250 g Rs 2,499 Rs 4,699
250 to 275 g Rs 2,699 Rs 4,999
275 to 300 g Rs 2,999 Rs 5,399

These are listed prices and can change, so check the product page for the current price. If you want the same fruit from the neighbouring taluka, see the Devgad Alphonso Mango page. Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district; Ratnagiri is a district. Both are the same variety under the same GI, and we do not rank one above the other.

Choosing a grade is a matter of use, not quality. Smaller fruit suits daily eating and children, and larger fruit suits gifts. A box ripens over several days, so a single dozen is enough for most homes. Order two dozen only if you plan to make aamras or share the box. Whatever you pick, read the grade in grams on the product page, so the fruit you receive matches the fruit you expected.

The GI tag and how to check a Ratnagiri Hapus seller

Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139, and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). The number is on our Brand Facts page. Our Alphonso GI tag guide explains the registry record.

No single test proves a mango is real Ratnagiri Hapus. These are rough clues and questions, not proof:

  • Size: Alphonso is a small to medium fruit, generally 150 to 300 g. Very large fruit sold as Hapus deserves a question.
  • Flesh: soft, non-fibrous and saffron-coloured when ripe.
  • Origin: a seller should name the district or village, not only "Konkan".
  • Credential: ask whether the seller holds a GI Authorised User certificate and can show its number.
  • Season: fresh Alphonso is a February to June fruit. Fresh "Hapus" outside that window needs an explanation.

Our longer guides cover how to identify authentic Hapus and how to spot carbide-ripened mangoes.

Ripening, harvest and handling

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011; ethylene up to 100 ppm is the permitted alternative. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller. Our fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net.

Harvest to ripening of Alphonso takes about 15 days, so a box can arrive with some fruit firm. Keep it at room temperature in a single layer, away from sun. Check each morning: a sweet smell at the stalk and a slight give at the shoulder mean ripe. Do not chill firm fruit; cold stops ripening. Once a mango is soft, eat it that day or chill it briefly.

How Ratnagiri Hapus is eaten

In Maharashtra, Hapus is eaten three ways. Cut fresh, it is sliced off the stone in cheeks and scooped. As aamras, the pulp is pressed out, blended briefly with a little milk or nothing at all, and served chilled with puri or chapati. And in a mango dessert such as a kulfi, a milkshake or a mousse. Because Alphonso is non-fibrous, it blends smoothly without straining. Our aamras recipe gives quantities.

On nutrition, 100 g of raw mango provides about 36 mg of vitamin C, roughly 40% of the Daily Value, and about 43 micrograms of folate. Mango also carries natural sugars. These are generic mango figures, not Alphonso-specific ones. If you have a medical condition that affects sugar intake, ask your doctor or dietitian how much fruit suits you; we sell fruit, not medical advice.
