Alphonso mango season at a glance
Alphonso is a fruit with a clear window, and the dates below are the ones we work to. They describe the Alphonso that we source across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Weather can move a season a little each year, so treat them as a guide.

Month by month
- February. The season opens. Supply is building, and early orders are the first fruit of the year.
- March to May. This is the best supply, and the months most buyers choose. If you want a dozen to eat and a second to gift, this is the period to plan around.
- June. The season winds down. Fruit is still being harvested, but you should not expect the choice you see in the middle of the season.
- July to January. No fresh Alphonso from us. Pulp tins and freeze-dried cubes remain on the shelf.
We have deliberately kept this plain, because a season guide that promises exact dates for every week would be guessing. Why the season is short
A mango tree does not produce fruit all year. The fruit takes four to five months from flowering to ripening, and for Alphonso the harvest to ripe fruit stretch is about 15 days. A fresh fruit therefore reaches the table only in a few months of each year. We harvest before dawn, at Brahma Muhurta, and hand-pick with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, so each fruit is lifted off the branch rather than dropped.
We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Using carbide to ripen fruit is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. Hay-ripened fruit takes a few days, so a box may arrive with some fruit firm and need time at home. Our guide on how to ripen mangoes at home explains what to do.
Ratnagiri and Devgad season
People ask about the Ratnagiri hapus mango season and the Devgad season as if they were separate. Ratnagiri is a district and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district, and both grow the same Alphonso variety. We do not claim that either origin is harvested earlier or later, or that one is better. Kesar, Pairi and other mangoes

When fresh Alphonso is not sold
From July to January we do not sell fresh Alphonso. We do not stock substitute fruit and call it Alphonso. What stays available all year is Alphonso pulp. Our Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin comes in 850 g and 3.1 kg sizes, from Rs 590. APEDA describes mango pulp as sterilised and packed in aseptic bags or in hermetically sealed cans.
