What sets the price of a dozen

A dozen is a count, not a weight, and that is the first thing to understand when you compare prices. Alphonso is graded by fruit size, and our listings run from small fruit of about 150 g to large fruit of about 275 g. A dozen of the large grade weighs far more than a dozen of the small grade, which is why one product page shows a range of prices.

Devgad Alphonso Mango export quality Devgad Hapus GI tagged from Sindhudurg district
  • Fruit size grade. Larger fruit is priced higher.
  • Number of dozens. Two dozen costs more than one, and the order-online page also offers five dozen.
  • Hand harvesting and sorting. Our fruit is harvested by hand with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, then sorted by size.
  • Delivery. We dispatch by Blue Dart; check your PIN code at checkout.

We do not quote a price per kg, because the pack is sold by the dozen and the weight of a dozen changes with grade. Compare box with box, not rupee with rupee.

The Ratnagiri price ladder, size by size

The Ratnagiri product page lists five fruit size grades, each as one dozen or two dozen. The figures below are the listed prices as we publish them; they can change, so always confirm on the page.

Ratnagiri Alphonso listed prices by fruit size grade
Fruit size grade 1 dozen 2 dozen
About 150 g a fruit Rs 1,849 Rs 3,499
About 180 g a fruit Rs 2,099 Rs 3,999
About 225 g a fruit Rs 2,499 Rs 4,699
About 250 g a fruit Rs 2,699 Rs 4,999
About 275 g a fruit Rs 2,999 Rs 5,399

Read the table as a menu, not a bargain list. The smallest grade suits everyday eating, shakes and aamras, where the fruit is cut up anyway. The larger grades suit gifting, where the look of the fruit matters. Two dozen costs less than double one dozen at every grade, which helps when you are buying for a big family or sharing a box between two households.

How to compare two quotes fairly

Two sellers can show very different prices for "one dozen" and still be selling very different boxes. Before you decide, line up the details in the table.

Check Why it matters
Fruit size or box weight A dozen can weigh roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade, so a count alone does not tell you the quantity.
Place of origin Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt is GI-tagged in India (GI No. 139).
Paperwork Ask whether the seller holds a GI Authorised User certificate and an FSSAI licence.
Ripening method Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under FSSAI Regulation 2.3.5.
Delivery terms Check who pays for courier cost and what happens if the box arrives damaged.

No home test proves how a mango was ripened, and the bucket test is a rough clue, not proof. A seller who can show paperwork is a safer bet than one who cannot.

What the price covers with us

We hold the GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). We source fruit across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt, and we have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Our fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, so each fruit is cut and caught rather than shaken down. Ratnagiri is a district on the Konkan coast, and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district.

Fruit leaves us mature but firm and finishes ripening at your home. Wikipedia puts the time from harvest to ripening of Alphonso at about 15 days, so patience is part of the process. Our guide to ripening Alphonso at home lists the steps. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller; details sit on the Brand Facts page.
