Range of Lip Smacking Mango Dessert - AlphonsoMango.in

Mango desserts made with fresh Alphonso pulp range from no-cook mousses to slow-cooked halwa. This page lists dessert ideas that suit Alphonso, what each one needs, how to choose pulp or fruit, and how to order for a family or a gathering.

What makes a good mango dessert

A mango dessert depends on three things: the pulp, the sweetness and the texture. Alphonso is naturally sweet at full ripeness, so you usually add less sugar than a recipe written for a fibrous variety would call for. Its pulp is described on Wikipedia as rich, creamy and non-fibrous, which makes smooth mousses, kulfi and sheera easier to get right.

We sell Alphonso by the dozen from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Ratnagiri is a district, Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district, and both fruit come from the same variety. We do not rank one above the other for desserts. Choose by the fruit size you need and the product page details.

Mango dessert ideas to try with Alphonso

Each idea below links to a full recipe post on our blog. Start with the one that fits the time you have.

  • Mango sheera: semolina roasted in ghee, then cooked with warm milk and fresh pulp off the heat.
  • Mango halwa: pulp cooked down with ghee, sugar and cardamom until glossy, with cashew garnish.
  • Mango kulfi: a frozen dessert in which pulp and milk are set slowly until they hold their shape.
  • Mango mousse: a light, chilled dessert that sets with little or no cooking.
  • Mango pudding: a set dessert with a soft, creamy texture.
  • Mango cheesecake: a no-bake cheesecake with fresh pulp folded through the filling.
  • Mango rabri: thickened milk flavoured with pulp and cardamom.

For a quick, cool finish after a meal, an aamras or a mango lassi is a simple choice. Our aamras recipe and mango lassi recipe cover both.

Texture and sugar in mango desserts

Fresh pulp holds more water than cooked fruit, so a dessert that is cooked on the stove needs time to thicken. Stir steadily on medium heat until the pulp pulls away from the sides of the pan. Add sugar near the end, then taste before you add more. Use fruit that has ripened fully, because the pulp carries most of the flavour in a simple dessert.

  • Chilled desserts such as mousses need the pulp to be very smooth. Blend it well and chill the mixture before you spoon it into glasses.
  • Frozen desserts such as kulfi need a rich base of milk. Pulp adds flavour and colour, so use a measured amount and freeze slowly.
  • Garnishes add crunch. Our W180 cashew nuts are a large whole kernel for topping mango desserts.

Ratnagiri or Devgad for desserts

Alphonso from both belts is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139. Our Ratnagiri fruit is covered by GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139), and our Devgad fruit by certificate AU/6932. Both are the Hapus variety, and we do not rank one above the other for desserts.

For a dessert, the size of the fruit often matters more than the belt. A medium fruit of 180 to 225 g gives roughly a cup of clean pulp. You can compare the sizes on the Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango page and the Devgad Alphonso Mango page pages.

Pulp for desserts all year

Fresh Alphonso is harvested from about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027, and fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season. For desserts outside that window, the Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin is available all year in 850 g and 3.1 kg tins from Rs 590. It works in the same recipes, and you should taste it before you add sugar.

Our Alphonso mango season guide gives the month-by-month view, and the mango collection shows what is listed on the store.

Planning mango desserts for a gathering

When you cook for a group, plan one fresh dessert and one that keeps. A chilled mousse or a no-bake cheesecake can be made the day before and kept in the refrigerator until serving. Sheera and halwa are best made close to serving, while they are still warm.

For a larger group, work out how much pulp you need before you order. A dozen fruit of 180 to 225 g each gives a good amount of pulp for several desserts. If you need more than fresh fruit allows, the Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin covers the rest outside the season.

Our mango recipes page lists more ideas for family meals and gatherings, and the gifting page covers boxes for people you want to thank.

Delivery and arrival

Orders received before 1 PM are dispatched the same day. We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. We do not promise a delivery day for any named city, because the PIN code and the courier route decide it. Choose an address where someone can receive a perishable box.

Report any damage within 24 hours of delivery to support@alphonsomango.in or 8369048029. Open the box on arrival, lay the fruit in a single layer away from direct sun, and let firm fruit ripen at room temperature before you make a dessert.

Ripening and what to ask any seller

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011, and we are an FSSAI-licensed seller. No home test proves how a mango was ripened. The bucket-of-water test is a rough clue, not proof.

Before you buy fruit or pulp for a dessert, ask the seller how it was ripened and whether a GI user certificate number is shown for Alphonso. Our guide to identifying authentic Hapus lists more questions to ask.

People also ask

What are good mango desserts to make at home?

Good choices include mango sheera, a semolina dessert finished with fresh pulp, and mango mousse, which sets chilled with little cooking. Mango halwa, mango kulfi and mango cheesecake are also popular. Each one uses fresh Alphonso pulp, and our blog gives a full recipe for each.

What is the easiest mango dessert to make?

A no-cook mango mousse or a no-bake mango cheesecake is the easiest start, because neither needs the stove. Blend the pulp until smooth, fold it into the base, and chill it until set. Taste the pulp before adding sugar, since Alphonso is naturally sweet.

Can I make mango desserts with pulp from a tin?

Yes. The Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin, in 850 g and 3.1 kg sizes from Rs 590, is available all year and works in the same dessert recipes. Taste the pulp before adding sugar, because the sweetness of a tin can differ from fresh fruit.

Which mango is best for desserts?

Alphonso is a strong choice for desserts because its pulp is smooth and naturally sweet. Ratnagiri and Devgad are the same variety, and we do not rank one above the other. Choose by the fruit size you need and check the product page for the current price.
