Buy Alphonso Mango Online: Fresh and Delicious

By Prashant Powle  •   7 minute read

To buy Alphonso mango with confidence, buy in season from a seller who names the district, the size grade and the ripening method. We sell Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso from Rs 1,849 per dozen by Blue Dart. Check the product page for the current price.

Where to buy Alphonso mango: market, local vendor or online

We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. Alphonso, called Hapus in Marathi, is sold in three ways: at wholesale markets by the crate, from local fruit vendors by the dozen, and online by the graded dozen. Each has a trade-off, and none is wrong.

A good local vendor you have bought from for years, who tells you where the fruit came from, is hard to beat. If you do not have one, buying online gives you information you can check before paying. Our Alphonso mango near me guide covers the local options in more depth.

How to check you are buying real Alphonso

Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139. We source across 55 villages of that belt and hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). Other mangoes are sometimes sold under the Hapus name, so these are the checks worth making wherever you buy.

  • Size and shape. Alphonso fruits generally weigh 150 to 300 g, oval with a slightly pointed base. Very large fruit sold as Hapus deserves a question.
  • Scent. A ripe Alphonso smells sweet and strong at the stalk end, even before cutting.
  • Flesh. Saffron-coloured, rich, creamy and non-fibrous, with a small stone for the size of the fruit.
  • Paperwork. Ask for the district, the FSSAI licence and the GI user certificate number.
  • Ripening. Ask how it was done. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.

Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011, and we are an FSSAI-licensed seller. No home test proves how a mango was ripened; the bucket-of-water test is a rough clue, not proof. Our guide to identifying authentic Hapus has photographs and more detail.

Hapus or Kesar: which to buy

This is the question we are asked most. Alphonso and Kesar are different varieties, not grades of one fruit. Alphonso is small, intensely scented and non-fibrous, and it is the mango for eating whole, gifting and festive aamras. Kesar, from Gujarat, is juicy, sweet and a little tangy, and many families keep it for shakes and daily eating because it costs less to start.

We list Kesar at Rs 999 for a half-dozen and Rs 1,699 for a dozen, and Pairi, the Konkan aamras mango, from Rs 2,799 per dozen. We do not rank one above the other, and we do not call Kesar GI-tagged. If this is your first season buying online, a dozen Alphonso and a half-dozen Kesar side by side settles the question for your household. The types of mangoes guide describes the other Indian varieties.

Alphonso mango price and what moves it

We price by the dozen and by grade, not by the kilo. Ratnagiri Alphonso and Devgad Alphonso are both listed from Rs 1,849 per dozen for the 150 to 180 g grade, rising to Rs 2,999 for the 275 to 300 g grade. Two-dozen boxes and larger options are on the order-online page. A dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Prices can change, so check the product page for the current price.

  • Grade is the biggest driver: bigger fruit, higher price per dozen.
  • Time in the season matters: supply is thin in February and fullest from March to May.
  • Weather in the Konkan during flowering sets the size of the crop and so the price for the year.
  • Packing and courier are built into the dozen price; the checkout shows the delivery charge for your PIN code separately.

The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season; the Alphonso mango pulp tin (850 g and 3.1 kg, from Rs 590) is available all year. Our Ratnagiri Hapus price guide tracks how prices move within a season.

We do not promise a delivery day for any named city. Give an address where someone will be present to receive a perishable box, and add the recipient's phone number if the box is a gift. For corporate gifting orders, shipping is extra; see the gifting page.

Harvest to ripening of Alphonso takes about 15 days, so some fruit arrives firm. Lay the fruit in a single layer at room temperature, eat the ripest first and do not refrigerate firm fruit. Where can I buy Alphonso mango?

We sell Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso at AlphonsoMango.in from Rs 1,849 per dozen during the season, about February to June, dispatched by Blue Dart. Enter your PIN code at checkout and check the product page for the current price.

How do I identify an original Alphonso mango?

Look for a 150 to 300 g oval fruit with a strong sweet scent at the stalk, thin skin and saffron, non-fibrous flesh with a small stone. Ask the seller for the district, the FSSAI licence and the GI user certificate. Colour alone is not proof, and no home test proves how a mango was ripened.

Which mango is better, Kesar or Alphonso?

They are different fruits, and neither is better for everyone. Alphonso is small, intensely scented and non-fibrous, the mango for eating whole and gifting. Kesar is juicy and slightly tangy and costs less to start, so many families use it for shakes and daily eating. Try a box of each.

Why is Hapus mango expensive?

Hapus is a small-fruited variety from a limited coastal belt, harvested by hand once a year between about February and June. Grading by fruit weight, careful packing and courier delivery add to the cost. Larger grades cost more per dozen; the 150 to 180 g grade is the entry point at Rs 1,849.

What is the price of Alphonso mango per dozen?

We list Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso from Rs 1,849 per dozen for the 150 to 180 g grade, rising to Rs 2,999 per dozen for the 275 to 300 g grade, with two-dozen boxes also available. A dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Check the product page for the current price.
