Our mangoes for Chennai
Chennai has plenty of mangoes, and the city also has plenty of ways to order them: apps, wholesale agents, farm links and sellers who deliver from Andhra Pradesh or Salem. This page is about what we list on AlphonsoMango.in and how to judge any online mango seller. In Tamil, buyers search மாம்பழம் ஆன்லைன் for the same thing.

We are a Mumbai business, run by Powle Home Foods. Our Alphonso comes from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt of the Konkan, and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139) for it. Our first sales were offline in 2019, and online sales began in 2020. Our customer count is 47,000+, including offline and marketplace sales.

All fresh mango listings are seasonal. Prices are "from" prices and can change, so check the product page for the size you want. A dozen of Alphonso weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade, which is why we do not quote a price per kilo. There is no GST on fresh mangoes, and the invoice shows this.
Questions to ask any online seller

Online buying removes the chance to press the fruit, so the questions you ask matter more. Put these to us and to anyone else:
- What exactly is in the box? The variety, the count and the weight range.
- Where was it grown? A region, not just "farm fresh".
- How was it ripened? Ask for the answer in writing.
- Who delivers it? And how will the courier handle your PIN code?
- What happens if it arrives damaged? Ask for the reporting window.
- Is the seller licensed? We are an FSSAI-licensed seller.
On ripening, our answer is this. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide gas is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. The water or bucket test is a rough clue and not proof, and no home test proves how a mango was ripened.
On damage, we ask that you report it within 24 hours of delivery by writing to support@alphonsomango.in. Open the box as soon as it arrives. Our guide on identifying carbide-free mangoes online goes through the rough clues in more detail.
Read a box listing closely. Two boxes with the same name can hold different grades, and a grade is a weight band for each fruit. Compare the price of a dozen only against a dozen of the same grade, and look at how many fruit the box holds. A larger grade costs more because each fruit holds more pulp, and a smaller grade is a fair choice when you plan to pulp the fruit for aamras. If a listing does not say the grade or the count, ask before you pay.
Which mango to choose
If you grew up on Banganapalli or Malgova, Alphonso will taste different. It is usually smaller, more fragrant and richer in pulp, and it is described as non-fibrous. Kesar, a Gujarat mango with saffron-orange pulp, is closer to the sweet and aromatic side. Pairi is a different taste again. The right answer for most households is to try a box and decide.
- For eating fresh and gifting: Alphonso, from Ratnagiri or Devgad.
- For aamras and shakes on a budget: Kesar.
- For a variety to compare: Pairi, Totapuri or Malawi, as listed.
- For recipes in any month: the pulp tin.
Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso are the same variety, and we do not rank one above the other. If you want help choosing between them, read Ratnagiri vs Devgad Alphonso mango. For Alphonso alone in Chennai, we have a separate page on Alphonso mango in Chennai.
Delivery to Chennai

Once the box arrives, keep the fruit in a single layer at room temperature away from direct sun. Check daily by smell near the stalk and a gentle press at the shoulder. Chennai is warm, and ripe mangoes soften fast, so plan to eat them within a few days. Our note on how to ripen Alphonso mangoes at home gives the steps.
Sending a box from Chennai

A box of Alphonso is a common gift between families, and Chennai customers often send one to relatives in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi or Mumbai. At checkout you can enter a delivery address that is different from your billing address. Write the recipient's PIN code carefully and check that someone will be home to receive the box.
We ship directly to the UAE. For other countries, shipments have been arranged through the customer's contact abroad and are not a standard service, so write to us first. For gifting questions inside India, read our online mango delivery page.

If you are curious about Malawi, a variety we also list, the Malawi Mango page shows the sizes and availability.
Pulp when fresh fruit is out of season
Fresh Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. Our 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027, and every fresh mango listing shows as unavailable until then. We do not sell fresh Alphonso outside the season.
The Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin is available all year. It suits aamras, milkshakes, kulfi and desserts. See our aamras recipe and mango milkshake for quantities. If you have diabetes or another condition, ask your doctor or dietitian how much mango suits you.
