Alphonso mango in Tamil is written ஆல்பன்சோ மாம்பழம், and in Maharashtra the same fruit is called Hapus. It grows on the Konkan coast, not in Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore buyers can order it from AlphonsoMango.in, delivered by Blue Dart, with a PIN-code check at checkout.
Two kinds of readers land on this page. Some want to know what Alphonso is called in Tamil. Others live in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode or elsewhere in Tamil Nadu and want to buy the real fruit online. We answer both. We are AlphonsoMango.in, run by Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we have sold mangoes since 2019 offline and since 2020 online.
Alphonso mango in Tamil: the name
Alphonso is written in Tamil as ஆல்பன்சோ மாம்பழம். The second word, மாம்பழம் (mambazham), simply means mango fruit. You will also see the spelling அல்போன்சா மாம்பழம் in shops and on labels, because Tamil has no single fixed spelling for a borrowed name. Some buyers say ஹாபுஸ் மாம்பழம் (Hapus mambazham), using the Marathi name.
Hapus (also spelt Haphus) is the name used on the Konkan coast, where the variety grows. The English name comes from Afonso de Albuquerque. In English, Hindi, Marathi and Tamil you are looking at the same fruit, and what changes is only the label. Our Alphonso name in Bangla page does the same for Bengali readers.
Where it grows, and why not Tamil Nadu
Alphonso is a Konkan fruit. We source it across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. Ratnagiri is a district, and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district. Both are the same variety. Alphonso from this belt is GI-certified Alphonso in India (GI No. 139), and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). The details are on our Brand Facts page.
That origin is the main reason a box needs to travel to Tamil Nadu. The fruit is harvested at Brahma Muhurta, the pre-dawn hour, and hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net. It then travels by Blue Dart to your PIN code. Our guide to the Alphonso GI tag explains what the tag covers.
Tamil Nadu mangoes compared
Tamil Nadu has mango varieties of its own, and several are loved in Coimbatore. Banganapalli, Malgova, Neelam and Imam Pasand are all widely eaten in the south. They are good fruits, and the point of this page is not to run them down. They are simply different mangoes from Alphonso, with different flesh and different uses.
| Mango | Where it is mainly grown | General character |
|---|---|---|
| Alphonso (Hapus) | Konkan coast, Maharashtra | Rich, creamy, non-fibrous pulp |
| Banganapalli | Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu | Large, firm fruit; widely sold in the south |
| Malgova | Tamil Nadu | Big, heavy fruit; a regional favourite |
| Kesar | Gir region, Gujarat | Orange pulp with a light tang |
If you also want Gujarat's mango, our Kesar mango page lists boxes from Rs 999, and our Kesar guide compares it with Alphonso.
Ordering Alphonso in Coimbatore
Ordering is the same for every city. You pick a product, add it to the cart and enter your Coimbatore address at checkout. We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. We do not promise a delivery time for Coimbatore or any named city. - Open Ratnagiri Alphonso or Devgad Alphonso and choose the dozen size.
- Check the price. Alphonso is sold by the dozen, from Rs 1,849, and a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on the grade.
- Add to the cart, enter your Coimbatore PIN code and pay.
- When the box arrives, open it the same day, lay the fruit in a single layer and keep it at room temperature.
Alphonso takes about 15 days from harvest to full ripeness, so fruit that arrives firm is normal. Refrigerate only ripe fruit. If a fruit arrives damaged, report it within 24 hours of delivery to support@alphonsomango.in or 8369048029. Our mango online Chennai and Alphonso mango Madurai pages cover other Tamil Nadu cities, and the Bangalore page covers the neighbouring state.
How to tell genuine Alphonso
No single test proves a mango is Alphonso. Colour, smell and the bucket of water are rough clues, not proof. Ask the seller three plain questions: where did it grow, how was it ripened and which season does it belong to? We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Selling fruit ripened with carbide gas is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011, so every seller should be able to answer.
Read how to identify authentic Hapus and how to identify carbide-ripened mangoes for the full list of questions. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller.
Season and timing
The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Alphonso is harvested from about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. Outside that window we do not sell fresh Alphonso. The Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin stays available all year from Rs 590, and it suits aamras, payasam and shakes. See the mango season guide for the calendar.
Using Alphonso in Tamil dishes
Alphonso pulp is smooth, so it fits recipes that normally use another mango. Many Tamil households make mango payasam, mango pachadi, mango rice and mango lassi with local fruit. Alphonso works in the sweet versions because the pulp has little fibre. Try it in mango lassi, or in a simple aamras. For raw-mango dishes such as pachadi, use raw mango and not ripe Alphonso.
Other products for Tamil Nadu buyers
Tamil Nadu buyers often add other items to a mango order. We also sell cashews in several grades, and the pictures here show our Kesar mango and W180 cashew nuts. The cashew nuts collection lists the rest. Cashews ship the same way as mangoes and have no season.
For restaurants, hotels or gifting, write to us with your quantity, cities and dates. We have not published fixed terms, so we answer each request. Start with the gifting page.
