Delivery Across India
Every Kesar mango order dispatches from our Mumbai packhouse by BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.
Fruit leaves the packhouse at 70–80% ripeness — firm enough to survive transit without bruising. It reaches full ripeness within about three days of delivery. Each mango sits in a foam-net sleeve inside a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard box with a 12-slot partition that takes the transit pressure so the fruit does not have to. Six air holes top and bottom keep airflow going during the final ripening stage at your end.
We do not dispatch fresh Kesar mango July to January. That is the honest limit of what a seasonally harvested fruit can do.

- Step 1 – Select your grade: Visit alphonsomango.in/products/kesar-mango, choose the quantity that suits you — boxes start from a half dozen up to 2 dozen — and check the price, which runs from ₹999 to ₹1,699 depending on the option.
- Step 2 – Add to cart: Add your selection to cart. If you want Alphonso alongside your Kesar order, add both from their respective product pages before checking out.
- Step 3 – Dispatch: We dispatch by BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.
Where Kesar Mango Comes From
Kesar mango carries GI Tag No. 185, covering the Junagadh and Gir region of Gujarat. The name comes from the saffron-coloured (kesar) pulp — a bright orange that is noticeably deeper than many other varieties.
The Girnar mountain range in Junagadh is not just geography; it shapes the fruit. The laterite soil, the elevation, and the specific temperature swings between December and February determine how much sugar accumulates before harvest. Orchards sit at the foothills, with the sea breeze from the Saurashtra coast doing the same work for Kesar that the Konkan coastal air does for Alphonso 600 km south.
Kesar is sourced directly from that Gir-Junagadh belt and dispatched with the same care we give our Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso — no carbide, no ethylene chambers, natural hay-bed ripening only.
What Makes Kesar Mango Different
The pulp is thick and nearly fibre-free, which is why Kesar is the variety most widely used for aamras and mango milkshake in Gujarat and Rajasthan. The skin turns from green to a yellow-orange at ripeness, often with a saffron blush on the shoulder facing the sun. The stone is flat and thin relative to the pulp volume — most of what you eat is fruit.
Flavour sits between sweet and mildly tangy, with an aroma that is floral rather than the resinous depth you get from Alphonso. Both are excellent. They are just different experiences.
Is Kesar mango the same as Gir Kesar?
Yes. "Gir Kesar" refers to the same variety grown specifically in the Gir-Junagadh belt, named to distinguish it from lower-quality Kesar grown outside the GI-protected zone. The GI tag (No. 185) protects this origin. Kesar sold on alphonsomango.in is sourced from that GI region.
What does Kesar mango taste like compared to Alphonso?
Alphonso (18–24° Brix at full ripeness) is richer and more intensely aromatic — the pulp is almost custardy. Kesar is sweeter in a lighter, more floral way, with slightly more tang. For aamras or pulp-based desserts, Kesar is the traditional Gujarat choice. For eating fresh or making Aamras in the Konkan style, Alphonso wins on depth.
How We Ripen and Pack Kesar Mango
Every Kesar mango we dispatch goes through natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening only, in temperature-controlled rooms. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours at our Mumbai packhouse is monitored natural ripening on hay — not a gas-triggered process.
Before packing, each fruit is checked individually. Our AI/ML-assisted machine scanning looks for external deformities and internal issues before the fruit reaches your box. Each mango then goes into a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm, length 100–120 mm by fruit size) that prevents side bruising, vibration damage, and moisture build-up. The 5-ply corrugated box has a 12-slot partition designed to carry the transit pressure rather than transferring it to the fruit.
We test weekly through the season at Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd. (Thane, NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284). The April 2025 report confirmed all 28 residues within Codex maximum residue limits. We say "independently tested, all residues within Codex limits" — not "pesticide-free" because one residue (thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg against a limit of 0.2 mg/kg) was detected within limits.
Nutrition in Kesar Mango
Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g — a 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 RDA for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Kesar pulp sits in a broadly similar range for a ripe summer mango, though we cite the verified Alphonso figure and describe Kesar qualitatively.
Mangiferin, a polyphenol found in mango pulp and skin, showed anti-inflammatory activity in a 2011 cell study by Govindappa et al. That was a cell study, not a clinical trial — but it points to the same direction that traditional use has always indicated.
Kesar mango pulp is suitable for babies from about 6 months as a first fruit — this is a serving suggestion, not medical advice. Start with a small spoonful of ripe, unsweetened pulp and watch for any response.
Uses of Kesar Mango in the Kitchen
Aamras is the most traditional use — ripe Kesar pulp, lightly spiced with cardamom, eaten with puri or chapati. The thick, low-fibre pulp also works straight into mango milkshake without straining. Kesar holds its colour well in kulfi, shrikhand, and mango mousse. The slightly tangy note makes it better than Alphonso for raw mango pickle if you catch it at 80% ripeness.
Season and Availability
Kesar mango season runs from March to June. Peak availability is April and May. By early July, the crop is done and we stop dispatching fresh fruit. There is no fresh Kesar mango available from July to January — anyone selling it in that window is selling cold-stored or non-GI fruit.
The 2027 mango season starts on 1 February 2027, and fresh mangoes are out of stock until then.
Alphonso from our Konkan orchards — Ratnagiri, Devgad, villages like Dahibav, Girye, Jamsande on the Devgad coast, and Pawas and Golap in Ratnagiri taluka — follows the same February-to-June window. If you want both varieties in the same season, order together and we dispatch both.

People Also Ask
Which mango is better, Kesar or Alphonso?
Neither is better — they are different fruits for different uses. Alphonso, at 18–24° Brix, delivers a custardy, intensely aromatic pulp that is hard to beat fresh. Kesar is lighter, more floral, and naturally the Gujarat and Rajasthan choice for aamras and mango milkshake. Pick by how you plan to eat it.
What is special about Kesar mango?
Kesar mango holds GI Tag No. 185, protecting fruit grown in the Girnar foothills of Junagadh, Gujarat. The laterite soil, Girnar elevation, and December-to-February temperature swings build a saffron-orange pulp that is thick, nearly fibre-free, and distinctly floral. That pulp-to-stone ratio is unusually high — most of what you bite into is fruit, not fibre or seed.
What does Kesar mango taste like?
Kesar tastes sweet and mildly tangy, with a floral aroma rather than the deep resinous richness of Alphonso. The pulp is thick and smooth with almost no fibre. Sweetness comes forward first, then a light citrus tang at the finish. It is the flavour Gujarat cooks have built aamras and mango shrikhand around for generations.
Why is Kesar mango expensive?
Kesar mango is expensive because it grows only in the Gir-Junagadh belt of Gujarat, holds GI Tag No. 185, and ripens in a narrow March-to-June window. The laterite soil and Girnar elevation cannot be replicated elsewhere. Hand harvesting, cold-chain transport, natural hay-bed ripening, and weekly lab testing all add real cost.
Fruits sourced from outside the GI-protected zone are cheaper — but they are not Gir Kesar.
