What you are buying when you buy Alphonso mango online from us
We are Powle Home Foods, a Mumbai family business, and AlphonsoMango.in is our shop. We sell Alphonso (Hapus) by the dozen from two origins on the Konkan coast: Ratnagiri Alphonso and Devgad Alphonso. Both are the same variety. Ratnagiri is a district; Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district, further south. We do not rank one above the other, and we do not claim that one ripens earlier or tastes sweeter.

The fruit is sourced across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt. Alphonso from that belt is GI-tagged in India (GI No. 139), and for Alphonso we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). The number is on our Brand Facts page, and we would ask any seller who claims a GI link to show theirs. Since our first offline sales in 2019 and online sales from 2020, we have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales.

Price, fruit size and what a dozen weighs
Alphonso sells from Rs 1,849 per dozen. The price rises with fruit size and with two dozen rather than one; the largest Ratnagiri option goes up to Rs 5,399. We price by the dozen, never by the kilo, because a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Alphonso fruits generally weigh 150 to 300 g each, so twelve small fruits and twelve large ones are very different boxes.
| If you want | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday eating and aamras | A smaller or mid grade, one dozen | Lowest price per dozen; pulp is the same fruit |
| A gift | A larger grade | Bigger fruit looks more generous in the box |
| A big family or a festival | Two dozen | One delivery instead of two |
| Flavour between seasons | Alphonso pulp tin, 850 g or 3.1 kg, from Rs 590 | Available all year; fresh fruit is not |
Prices can change, so check the product page for today's price. There is no GST on fresh mangoes; GST applies on shipping for corporate gifting orders, and the invoice shows it. Our Hapus aam price guide goes through the listed options one by one.
How the fruit is harvested and ripened

Our fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, so it is lifted from the tree rather than shaken down, and harvest is done at Brahma Muhurta, the pre-dawn hour, for all our Alphonso. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Hay-bed ripening is the traditional Konkan method: mature fruit is laid on hay and ripens by itself over several days.
Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide (acetylene) gas is prohibited under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. No home test, including the water or bucket test, proves how a mango was ripened; it is a rough clue, not proof. The useful step is to ask the seller. Our guide to identifying carbide-ripened mangoes lists the questions.
Alphonso can develop spongy tissue, an internal flesh disorder; ICAR-IIHR research traced it to the seed shifting into germination mode at about 60% fruit maturity. It is not visible from outside. If you cut a fruit and find it, report it within 24 hours of delivery and we will look into it.
A checklist before you buy Alphonso mango online anywhere
These are the questions we would ask any seller, ourselves included. A good seller answers all of them without fuss, and the answers tell you more than any photograph of a box. Price alone proves nothing either way, and we make no claim about other sellers.
- Where did the fruit grow? Ratnagiri or Devgad, and ideally the belt, not just "Konkan".
- How was it ripened? The answer should be a method, not a slogan.
- What backs the GI claim? An Authorised User certificate number you can check.
- How many fruits, and what size grade? A dozen of 150 g fruit and a dozen of 275 g fruit are not the same price, and should not be.
- Who delivers, and when do I learn the delivery time? We dispatch by Blue Dart; the checkout shows the delivery message for your PIN code before you pay.
- What if the box arrives damaged? We ask that damage be reported within 24 hours of delivery.

Delivery, season and after the box arrives
We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. We do not promise a delivery day for any named city. The fruit travels firm and finishes ripening at home: keep it at room temperature, away from direct sun, and do not refrigerate it until it gives slightly near the stalk and smells sweet. Harvest to ripening of Alphonso is about 15 days, so a box can hold fruit at slightly different stages; eat the softest first. Cut fruit keeps covered in the fridge for a day or two. Our ripening guide covers the steps.
Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside the season we do not sell fresh Alphonso and we do not fill the gap with stored fruit; the pulp tin is the honest substitute. We also list Kesar and Pairi in their own windows, and we supply restaurants and hotels; write to us with your quantity and dates for a kitchen order.
