| Repeat-order pattern | North India leans Ratnagiri | Mumbai leans Devgad |
We assumed price would drive the choice. Repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers proved otherwise — geography and flavour memory matter more. Mumbai buyers who grew up with Devgad Hapus from Crawford Market return to Devgad. Delhi buyers, encountering Konkan Alphonso for the first time, tend to order Ratnagiri and then hold strong opinions about it for life.
Delivery Across India
Fruit leaves our Malvan packing centre or Devgad packing point within 48–72 hours of harvest. The journey: roughly 2 hours from tree to the packhouse, post-harvest cooling, 10–12 hours by air-conditioned vehicle to our Mumbai packhouse, then 24–48 hours of natural hay-bed ripening before dispatch. Metro cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune — receive fruit within 20–24 hours of dispatch. All other serviceable pin codes get delivery in 1–3 days. We cover 15,000–17,000 pin codes via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your location.
Each box is a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard (CFB) courier-grade box, 130 gsm paper, alternate flute orientation. A 12-slot partition carries transit pressure so the fruit does not. Every mango sits in a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm, length 100–120 mm by fruit size) on a hay bed, with six air holes top and bottom to keep airflow moving during the final ripening stage after delivery.
If fruit arrives damaged, send photo evidence within 24 hours of delivery and we replace it. That is our policy — no discussion needed.

Our network covers 100+ partner farmer families. Their orchards are typically 12–25 years old, sea-facing, selected by Prashant Powle on three criteria: Brix consistency across the season, tree longevity and alternate-bearing management. Cultivation follows strict SOPs covering natural sprays and fertilisers from flowering to harvest.
How the fruit is harvested
No tree is shaken. No fruit falls. Each mango is cut using a Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net and cutting mechanism. For tall trees, we use an indigenously developed length-extending pole with a camera. The fruit goes from tree to packhouse in about two hours, before heat or bruising can set in.
What about the GI tag — does it matter?
It matters practically, not just symbolically. GI No. 139 covers Alphonso mango from Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Powle Home Foods holds Authorised User registration AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019). That registration requires documented sourcing from within the GI zone. If a seller cannot show an AU number, they are selling Alphonso in name only — the fruit may have come from anywhere.
How We Ripen: No Carbide, No Ethylene
Natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening only, in temperature-controlled rooms. No ethylene chambers, no calcium carbide, no artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours at our Mumbai packhouse is natural ripening on hay, monitored, not gas-triggered.
Before packing, every fruit is weighed and graded. AI/ML-assisted machine scanning checks each mango for internal issues (spongy tissue) and external deformities. Fruit dispatched at 70–80% ripeness finishes ripening at your home in about three days — which is intentional. A fully ripe Alphonso mango does not survive a 48-hour courier journey without damage. A correctly ripened one does.
Pesticide and carbide residue testing runs weekly through the season at Envirocare Labs, Thane (NABL accredited). The April 2025 panel found all 28 residues within Codex limits; 27 of 28 were below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg); thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg against a permitted limit of 0.2 mg/kg. We say independently tested, all residues within Codex limits — not "pesticide-free", because one trace residue was detected within limits.
Season, Availability and Honest Limits
The Alphonso season runs February to June, with peak supply in March, April and May. We do not sell fresh Alphonso from July to January. There is no workaround. The fruit that appears in cold storage after June is not the same fruit — it has been held for months and the flavour is gone. If you visit the site between July and January and want Alphonso, the honest answer is: come back in February.
Season length varies year to year. In June 2026, Prashant Powle was interviewed in The Economic Times on the weather pressures Konkan growers faced that season (read the article). A short season means limited supply and genuine scarcity — not a sales tactic.
Can I buy Alphonso mango as a gift?
Yes. 18% of our orders each season are gifts. A two-dozen box of Jumbo Devgad Alphonso at ₹5,499 is the most common corporate gift choice. We have handled multi-destination dispatch — in May 2026 we dispatched across India for a single corporate client. If you need five dozen or more, contact us directly for HoReCa or corporate pricing.
What Does an Alphonso Mango Give You Nutritionally?
Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 RDA for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Mangiferin, a compound present in Alphonso, showed anti-inflammatory activity in cell studies (Govindappa et al., 2011). The Brix level at full ripeness — 18 to 24° — reflects the natural sugar built up slowly in sea-facing orchards with the salt air and laterite soil of Konkan. You cannot replicate that in a controlled growing environment, which is the only useful thing to say about why a Devgad Alphonso at 22° Brix tastes different from a supermarket mango at 14°.

People Also Ask
Can you get Alphonso mangoes in the US?
Fresh Alphonso mangoes reach the US through Indian exporters who ship during the February–June season. Phytosanitary clearance from USDA is required, and volumes remain limited. Most US buyers get Alphonso mango pulp or frozen puree year-round. AlphonsoMango.in currently ships fresh Alphonso within India only, not to US addresses.
If you are in India, we deliver to 15,000–17,000 pin codes via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees in 1–3 days.
Why is Alphonso mango costly?
Alphonso from Ratnagiri and Devgad is costly because it grows only in a narrow coastal belt, fruits once a year from February to June, requires careful hand-harvesting with pole-and-net tools, and cannot be machine-picked at scale. Each fruit is individually weighed, graded and sleeved before dispatch, adding cost at every step.
Our 100+ partner farmer families manage sea-facing orchards that are typically 12–25 years old — that tree age and terroir cannot be replicated cheaply anywhere else.
What is the cost of 1 kg Alphonso mango?
One kilogram of GI-tagged Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso mango costs roughly ₹450–₹700 per kg when bought online in season, depending on grade and box size. A half-dozen box of Medium (180–225 g) fruit weighs about 1–1.2 kg; prices on alphonsomango.in start at ₹1,849 for a box, covering multiple grades and quantities.
Per-kilogram cost drops meaningfully when you order a two-dozen box, which works out better if you plan to reorder or gift.
Is Alphonso the best mango in the world?
Many food writers and mango exporters call Alphonso the best, and the fruit's 18–24° Brix, saffron-gold pulp and zero-fibre texture make that claim hard to argue. GI No. 139 protects the name precisely because the Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg coastal climate produces a version that growers elsewhere cannot replicate, regardless of variety name.
That said, 'best' is personal — our repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers shows a 46% reorder rate, which is a cleaner measure than any ranking.
