What you can buy: Alphonso, Kesar, Pairi and pulp

We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. First sales were offline in 2019, online since 2020, and we have served 47,000+ customers including offline and marketplace sales. The fruit we sell is sourced across 55 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. This page explains what is on the shelf, how a box is sized, and what happens between checkout and your door.

Buy mangoes online: Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango, GI-tagged Hapus by the dozen
  • Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango: GI-tagged Alphonso (Hapus) from Ratnagiri district, sold by the dozen in five fruit sizes, from Rs 1,849.
  • Devgad Alphonso Mango: the same variety from Devgad taluka in Sindhudurg district, same sizes, from Rs 1,849.
  • Kesar Mango: a different variety from Gujarat; half-dozen Rs 999, dozen Rs 1,699.
  • Pairi Mango: a Konkan mango from Maharashtra, popular for aamras; dozen from Rs 2,799.
  • Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin: 850 g and 3.1 kg tins from Rs 590, available all year.

Prices are "from" prices and can change, so check the product page for the current price. We hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139) for Alphonso; Kesar and Pairi do not carry that certificate and we do not describe them as GI-tagged.

Why we sell mangoes by the dozen, and what 4 kg means

Many people search for a 4 kg mango box. We do not sell by weight. A dozen is twelve fruits, and the fruit size decides the weight: a dozen of our Alphonso weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. So 4 kg of Alphonso is roughly one and a half to two dozen, and the exact count depends on the size you choose. Buying by the dozen with a stated size tells you more than a kilo figure, because you know how many fruits arrive and how big each one is.

Ratnagiri Alphonso: fruit sizes and prices per dozen
Fruit size (each) 1 dozen 2 dozen
150 to 180 g Rs 1,849 Rs 3,499
180 to 225 g Rs 2,099 Rs 3,999
225 to 250 g Rs 2,499 Rs 4,699
250 to 275 g Rs 2,699 Rs 4,999
275 to 300 g Rs 2,999 Rs 5,399

Devgad Alphonso is listed in the same sizes from Rs 1,849 per dozen, and the order-online page lists larger boxes up to five dozen. Check the product page for the current price. We do not quote a per-kg rate, so compare sellers by the dozen and the fruit size, not by the headline number.

  • Eating whole or sliced: a larger size means fewer fruits to cut and more pulp per fruit.
  • Aamras, shakes and ice cream: any size works; the smaller sizes cost less per dozen. Our aamras recipe uses about a dozen fruit for a family meal.
  • Gifting: even, unmarked fruit in a larger size looks best. See our gifting page.

Ratnagiri or Devgad: which Alphonso to buy

Original Devgad Alphonso Mango, Hapus by the dozen from AlphonsoMango.in

Both are the same variety, Alphonso, called Hapus in Marathi. Ratnagiri is a district on the Konkan coast; Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district, further south on the same coast. Alphonso from this belt is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139. Our Ratnagiri certificate is AU/5974/GI/139/260 and our Devgad certificate is AU/6932. We do not rank one above the other, and we do not claim that one ripens earlier or tastes sweeter. Pick by what you can get in the size you want, or by the name you already know and like.

All our Alphonso is harvested at Brahma Muhurta, the pre-dawn hours, when the fruit is cool. Harvest to ripening takes about 15 days, so a box can arrive with some firm fruit; that is normal. For a longer comparison read our Ratnagiri vs Devgad guide.

When you can buy mangoes: season and off-season

Alphonso is harvested from about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season, so if you are reading this between July and January, the fresh listings will show as unavailable. An order placed when the season opens is for fresh fruit of that season, not for stock held in a cold store.

Outside the season the Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin is the honest buy for aamras, milkshakes and kulfi. Our Alphonso mango season guide gives the month-by-month view, and the mango collection shows what is listed at any time.

Delivery, ripening at home and what to check on arrival

Fresh Hapus mangoes from Konkan villages ready for packing

Orders received before 1 PM are dispatched the same day. We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout. We do not promise a delivery day for any named city, because the PIN code and the courier route decide it. Give an address where someone will be home to receive a perishable box.

  1. Open the box the day it arrives and lay the fruit in a single layer, away from direct sun.
  2. Report any damage within 24 hours of delivery to support@alphonsomango.in or 8369048029.
  3. Let firm fruit ripen at room temperature. A sweet smell at the stalk and a slight give at the shoulder mean ripe.
  4. Do not refrigerate firm mangoes; cold stops ripening. Ripe fruit can go in the fridge for a day or two.

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011, and we are an FSSAI-licensed seller. No home test proves how a mango was ripened; the bucket-of-water test is a rough clue, not proof. Our ripening guide covers the details, and our guide to identifying authentic Hapus lists what to ask any seller.

A short checklist before you buy mangoes from anyone

  • Is the variety named, and for Alphonso, is the district named (Ratnagiri or Devgad)?
  • Is the fruit size or weight per piece written on the page, not just "premium"?
  • Is the price per dozen, so you can compare two sellers like with like?
  • Does the seller say how the fruit is ripened?
  • Is the seller FSSAI-licensed, and for Alphonso, is a GI user certificate number shown?
  • Can you check delivery for your PIN code before you pay?

A seller who answers all six is worth a trial order. If you are comparing prices across sellers, our Ratnagiri Hapus price guide explains what moves the price within a season.
