Buy mango in Kandivali: what the choice looks like

If you live in Kandivali, you already have plenty of places to buy a mango. Fruit stalls line the roads near the stations, vendors work the lanes of Kandivali East and West, and housing society groups often pass around a contact for a hapus peti. The trouble is not finding mangoes. It is knowing which variety you are holding, where it grew and how it was ripened.

Buy mango in Kandivali: Alphonso mangoes delivered by AlphonsoMango.in

This page is for Kandivali buyers who would rather order a dozen of Konkan Alphonso and have it delivered to the flat. We are Powle Home Foods, based in Kurla West, Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. We sell Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso, Gir Kesar, Pairi and Alphonso pulp. Below you will find what we sell, what a dozen weighs, how delivery to your PIN code works, and how to ripen the fruit once it arrives.

What Kandivali buyers can order from us

Fresh mango is a seasonal product, and the cards further down show Season opens 1 February 2027 until the trees start giving fruit. Here is the range, with prices written the way we write them everywhere: as a starting price, so check the product page for today's price.

How delivery to Kandivali works

We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check your PIN code at checkout, because the page shows what is available for your address and we do not promise a day in advance. Kandivali West sits under PIN code 400067 and Kandivali East under 400101. Charkop, Thakur Village, Mahavir Nagar and Samta Nagar buyers should type their own code and see what the checkout offers.

  • Be home or leave instructions. Mango boxes are heavy. Give a mobile number that is answered, and tell the security desk to expect a parcel.
  • Open the box right away. If any fruit is damaged in transit, report it within 24 hours of delivery.
  • Do not stack the box in the sun. A cool, shaded spot near a window is enough for ripening.

Building lifts and parking rules differ from society to society, so a courier can only do so much at the gate. A quick message to your watchman saves a missed delivery.

What to ask any mango seller in Kandivali

Whether you buy from a stall, a shop or a website, a few plain questions tell you most of what you need. They apply to us as much as anyone else.

  1. Which variety is it? Hapus, Kesar, Pairi, Dasheri and Totapuri look and taste different. A seller should name the variety without hesitation.
  2. Which place did it come from? Alphonso grown in the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt of the Konkan coast is protected by a GI tag, GI No. 139. Ask for the paperwork behind any such claim.
  3. How was it ripened? Calcium carbide is banned for ripening fruit in India. Ask the seller to say how their fruit ripens.
  4. Does the seller hold a food licence? We are an FSSAI-licensed seller, and our licence number is on our Brand Facts page.
  5. What is sold by weight and what by count? Compare like with like. A dozen of large Alphonso is not the same as a dozen of small ones.

Our guide to identifying authentic Hapus goes through the same points in more depth.

Where our Alphonso comes from

Hapus mangoes from the Konkan belt for delivery in Kandivali

We source fruit across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Ratnagiri is a district and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district, and Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso are the same variety. We do not rank one place above the other. Pick by price, grade and what is in stock.

Our fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, so the mango is cut and caught instead of shaken down. The harvest is done at Brahma Muhurta, before dawn. We hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139), and you can read the details on our Brand Facts page. We have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales.

Ripening a mango box in a Mumbai flat

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. Ethylene up to 100 ppm is the permitted alternative.

Once the box arrives, finish the job the simple way. Keep the mangoes at room temperature, in a shaded spot, and let them soften over a few days. Do not put unripe fruit in the fridge, because cold slows ripening and can dull the flavour. A ripe mango smells sweet near the stalk and gives slightly under the thumb. Then eat it, or chill it for a short while. A bucket-of-water test is only a rough clue, not proof of anything, so go by smell and feel. Our guide on ripening Alphonso at home has the details.

In humid weather fruit may soften faster, so check the box every day once it begins to smell sweet. Cut fruit keeps best in a closed container in the fridge. Ripe pulp freezes well if you cannot finish a dozen.

Season, and what to buy between seasons

Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside the season we do not sell fresh Alphonso, because the trees give one crop a year. The Alphonso mango pulp tin is available all year in 850 g and 3.1 kg sizes, so you can make aamras whenever you like.

Roasted flax seeds from AlphonsoMango.in

We also sell roasted flax seeds, a pantry item you can order between mango seasons. Our aamras recipe and mango season guide help you plan the year.
