A mango blackberry smoothie blends about 200 g of ripe Alphonso pulp with 100 g of blackberries, cold milk or yoghurt, saffron and cardamom in about three minutes. The tart berries balance the sweet mango, and a ripe Alphonso usually needs no added sugar.
Mango blackberry smoothie recipe (serves 2)
We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. We have sold mangoes since 2019, online since 2020, and have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. This is the blackberry mango smoothie we make with Alphonso pulp or fresh fruit. Blackberries are tart, so the sweet, non-fibrous mango does the balancing.

Ingredients
- 200 g ripe Alphonso mango pulp, from about two ripe mangoes or a tin
- 100 g fresh or frozen blackberries
- 150 ml cold full-fat milk, or 100 g plain yoghurt
- 1 small scoop vanilla ice cream, optional, for richness
- 1 tsp sugar or honey, only if the mango is not sweet enough
- 4 to 5 saffron strands soaked in 1 tbsp warm milk
- ¼ tsp green cardamom powder
- 6 to 8 ice cubes
- Chopped cashews, almonds or walnuts to garnish
Method
- Soak the saffron strands in warm milk for 5 minutes and set aside.
- Put the mango pulp in a blender jar and add the blackberries.
- Add the milk or yoghurt, ice cream if using, sugar if needed, cardamom and saffron milk.
- Add the ice cubes.
- Blend on high for 60 to 90 seconds until completely smooth.
- Pour into chilled glasses, top with chopped nuts, and serve at once.
If the seeds in the blackberries bother you, strain the smoothie through a sieve; the taste stays the same and the texture becomes silkier.
Fresh fruit or pulp
We source Alphonso (Hapus) from across 55 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Alphonso from this belt is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139, and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). Fresh Alphonso is best in season, and the flesh blends smooth because it is non-fibrous. Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season, but the Alphonso mango pulp tin (850 g and 3.1 kg, from Rs 590) is available all year.

For this smoothie the tin and the fresh fruit are interchangeable at the same weight. Frozen mango also works well: freeze ripe cubes in season and use them through the year. Frozen fruit cuts the need for ice and makes the drink thicker. See our Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango and Devgad Alphonso Mango pages for fresh fruit; we do not rank one over the other, since both are Alphonso. Alphonso is sold by the dozen from Rs 1,849 (Ratnagiri and Devgad), and a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Check the product page for today's price.
Cashews and almonds for the garnish are on our site as well: see W180 cashews and California almonds.
What is in a blackberry mango smoothie
Both fruits carry vitamin C. 100 g of raw mango provides about 36 mg, roughly 40% of the Daily Value, and about 43 micrograms of folate. Blackberries are described as rich in fibre, vitamin C and vitamin K, and they give the drink its deep colour. Leaving the fruit whole in the blender keeps its fibre, which juice does not.

- Vitamin K note. People who take blood-thinning medicine, such as warfarin, are usually advised to keep vitamin K intake steady. If that is you, ask your doctor before drinking this daily.
- Sugar. The drink contains the natural sugar of two fruits. Skip the ice cream and sugar if you want to keep it lower.
- Dairy. Use coconut milk or almond milk for a dairy-free version. The saffron and cardamom still come through.
This is a food, not a treatment. Our mango nutrition facts page has the wider nutrient table, and our mango and diabetes guide covers blood sugar in general terms. We sell fruit, not medical advice.
Calories and using it as a meal
We have not measured this recipe in a lab. By common food-table values, raw mango is roughly 60 kcal per 100 g, so the fruit in a two-serving batch is modest, and the milk, ice cream and nuts decide the rest.
| Version | What changes |
|---|---|
| Full-fat milk and ice cream | Richest and heaviest; most calories |
| Low-fat yoghurt, no ice cream | Lighter, tangier, more protein per calorie |
| Coconut milk | Dairy-free, richer in fat, mild coconut taste |
A smoothie can replace a snack or a light breakfast, but we would not call it a diet plan. Replacing meals with drinks for weeks is a decision to make with a doctor or dietitian, not with a recipe page.
Serving and variations
- Smoothie bowl. Use less milk and more frozen fruit, pour into a bowl and top with sliced banana, seeds and chopped nuts.
- Kids' version. Leave out the saffron and cardamom if they dislike the aroma, and strain out the blackberry seeds.
- Make ahead. Blend the fruit and milk and keep it in a closed bottle in the fridge for a few hours, then shake before drinking. It thins slightly, so add fresh ice at serving time.
- Party jug. Multiply the quantities and blend in batches; one blender jar rarely holds more than two servings comfortably.
Ripening and storage
We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller. Fruit can arrive with some mangoes still firm, because harvest to ripening of Alphonso takes about 15 days. Keep the box at room temperature, away from sun, and refrigerate only once the fruit is soft. Blackberries are fragile; keep them in the fridge and use them within a couple of days, or freeze them on a tray. See our ripening guide and the mango collection.
People also ask
How do you make a mango blackberry smoothie?
Blend about 200 g of ripe Alphonso mango pulp with 100 g of blackberries, 150 ml cold milk or 100 g yoghurt, a pinch of cardamom, saffron milk and a handful of ice for 60 to 90 seconds. Add sugar only if the mango is not sweet enough. Serve at once, topped with chopped nuts.
Can I use frozen mango or frozen blackberries?
Yes. Frozen mango cubes and frozen blackberries both work well, and they replace most of the ice, so the smoothie turns out thicker. Freeze ripe mango on a tray in season and bag it. Use the same weights as the fresh recipe and add less ice. Alphonso pulp tins are also available all year.
Can I make a mango blackberry smoothie without dairy?
Yes. Use coconut milk or almond milk instead of milk or yoghurt, and leave out the ice cream. The saffron and cardamom still carry through. A frozen banana adds creaminess if you want it thicker. The dairy-free version is usually a little richer in fat if you use coconut milk.
Is a mango blackberry smoothie healthy?
It is a whole-fruit drink with vitamin C, fibre and natural sugar. Blackberries also contain vitamin K, so people on warfarin or similar medicine should ask their doctor first. Skipping the ice cream and sugar keeps it lighter. We sell fruit, not medical advice.
