A dragon fruit mango smoothie takes about three minutes. Blend one ripe Alphonso mango with one medium dragon fruit, 150 g yoghurt, cardamom and a few saffron strands, then add ice. Ripe Alphonso is sweet enough that most people need no added sugar.
Dragon fruit mango smoothie recipe (serves 2)
We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. We have sold mangoes since 2019, online since 2020, and have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. Here is the dragon fruit mango smoothie we make with Alphonso. Dragon fruit, also called pitaya, has a mild, lightly sweet taste, so the mango carries the flavour and the dragon fruit carries the colour and body.

Ingredients
- 1 ripe Alphonso mango, or about 100 g of Alphonso pulp from a tin
- 1 medium dragon fruit, flesh scooped out
- 150 g full-fat yoghurt or milk
- 4 to 5 saffron strands, soaked in 1 tbsp warm milk
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder
- A pinch of freshly grated nutmeg (jaiphal)
- 5 to 6 ice cubes
- Honey to taste, optional
Method
- Scoop the mango flesh, or measure the pulp, into a blender.
- Add the dragon fruit flesh, yoghurt, saffron milk, cardamom and nutmeg.
- Blend on high for 45 seconds.
- Add the ice and blend for 15 seconds more.
- Pour into two glasses and top with chopped cashews or slivered almonds if you like some crunch.
Active time is about three minutes. Red-fleshed dragon fruit gives a deep pink drink; the white-fleshed kind gives a paler, creamier one with the same mild taste. In either case the small black seeds blend in and are eaten. Choose a dragon fruit that feels slightly soft under gentle pressure and has no dark, mushy patches; an unripe one tastes bland.
Choosing the mango
We source Alphonso (Hapus) from across 55 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Alphonso from this belt is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139, and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). The flesh is non-fibrous, so it blends smooth with the dragon fruit. A ripe Alphonso is sweet enough that honey is usually unnecessary, though taste before you serve. We do not claim that Ratnagiri or Devgad fruit is sweeter than the other; pick the grade and price you prefer from the Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango or Devgad Alphonso Mango page.

Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season, but the Alphonso mango pulp tin (850 g and 3.1 kg, from Rs 590) is available all year. If you want this smoothie out of season, use the tin. Frozen mango also works: cube ripe fruit, freeze it flat on a tray, and use it in place of ice. Alphonso is sold by the dozen from Rs 1,849 (Ratnagiri and Devgad), and a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Check the product page for today's price.
You can buy saffron and nutmeg for the recipe from us too; see our saffron and nutmeg pages. For other fruit blends, try our mango smoothie recipe and banana orange mango smoothie.
What the smoothie gives you
Treat this as a pleasant whole-fruit drink, not a treatment. The facts we can stand behind are simple.

- Vitamin C. 100 g of raw mango provides about 36 mg of vitamin C, roughly 40% of the Daily Value. Dragon fruit adds some more.
- Fibre. Dragon fruit is eaten with its seeds and has fibre, and a whole-fruit smoothie keeps more of it than juice does.
- Folate and potassium. Mango carries about 43 micrograms of folate per 100 g.
- Yoghurt. It adds protein and makes the drink more filling.
Saffron is added for aroma and colour in small amounts. We do not make claims about it beyond that. If you have diabetes, a medical diet or an allergy to any ingredient, ask your doctor before making this a daily drink. Our mango nutrition facts page has the wider table.
Calories and weight
We have not measured this recipe in a lab. As an estimate from common food-table values, raw mango is roughly 60 kcal per 100 g, and dragon fruit is also a low-calorie fruit, so a glass made with the quantities above and no honey stays moderate. The yoghurt, honey and nuts decide the final figure.
- For a lighter glass, use low-fat or Greek yoghurt, skip honey, and use skimmed milk.
- For a heavier glass, use full-fat yoghurt, honey and a handful of cashews.
- Adding ice cream turns it into a dessert, which is a fair choice if you name it as one.
Whether a smoothie helps with weight gain or loss depends on your whole day's food, not on one glass. Ask a doctor or dietitian if weight is a medical concern.
Ripening and storage
We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller. Fruit can arrive with some mangoes still firm, because harvest to ripening of Alphonso takes about 15 days. Keep the box at room temperature, away from sun, and refrigerate only when the fruit is soft. A sweet smell at the stalk and a slight give at the shoulder mean ripe. Our Alphonso ripening guide explains how to judge it.
Serving ideas
Serve it in a chilled glass with a few chopped nuts, or pour it into a bowl and top with sliced dragon fruit, mango cubes and seeds for a smoothie bowl that you eat with a spoon. For a thicker bowl, use less yoghurt and more frozen fruit. Children usually like the bright colour, and the saffron and nutmeg can be left out entirely for them.
Drink the smoothie straight after blending; it thickens and separates if it stands. Leftover pulp can be frozen in small portions. See the mango collection for fresh fruit in season.
People also ask
Is mango and dragon fruit a good combination?
Yes. Mango brings sweetness and aroma, while dragon fruit adds colour, body and a mild taste that does not compete. A ripe Alphonso is usually sweet enough that no honey is needed. Blend with yoghurt, cardamom and ice for a three-minute smoothie, and taste before serving.
What fruit goes well with dragon fruit in a smoothie?
Mango is the strongest match, because its sweetness and acidity balance the mild taste of dragon fruit. Pineapple gives a sharper, more acidic drink, and banana makes it creamier. Ripe Alphonso mango gives enough body that you can leave the banana out. Choose by the texture you like.
Can I make a dragon fruit mango smoothie without fresh mango?
Yes. Use about 100 g of Alphonso mango pulp from a tin in place of one fresh mango, and keep the rest of the recipe the same. Our pulp tin (850 g and 3.1 kg, from Rs 590) is available all year. Frozen mango cubes also work and replace the ice.
How many calories are in a dragon fruit mango smoothie?
We have not measured it in a lab, but with one mango, one dragon fruit, 150 g yoghurt and no honey, the total is moderate. Mango is roughly 60 kcal per 100 g. Full-fat yoghurt, honey, nuts or ice cream raise it, while low-fat yoghurt lowers it. Measure your portions if you are counting.
