GI-certified Alphonso mangoes available for delivery in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh

Every box ships directly from our Mumbai packhouse — the same packhouse where Prashant Powle built the natural hay-bed ripening system that now processes fruit from 48 coastal villages of Ratnagiri and Devgad. For Bareilly, delivery time depends on your PIN code.

Fresh Alphonso is available only from February to June (the 2027 season starts on 1 February 2027). If you are ordering in March or April, fruit is at peak Brix — 18 to 24° at full ripeness. We dispatch at 70–80% ripeness so it arrives firm and ripens fully within about three days of delivery.

Delivery to Bareilly and Uttar Pradesh

We dispatch from our Mumbai packhouse. Orders placed before 12 noon IST (Monday to Saturday) are dispatched the same day. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days for most PIN codes and 1 to 2 days to most metros, depending on your PIN code. Fresh mangoes are delivered by Blue Dart to more than 4,700 PIN codes.

From harvest to your door: about 2 hours from tree to the Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse, then 10–12 hours by air-conditioned vehicle to Mumbai, then 24–48 hours of natural hay-bed ripening, then dispatch. Total: 48–72 hours from harvest to dispatch.

Each box is a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard (CFB) box, 130 gsm paper, alternate flute orientation, with reinforced corners and a 12-slot partition that absorbs transit pressure instead of passing it to the fruit. Every mango sits in a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm, length 100–120 mm by fruit size) on a hay bed. Six air holes top and bottom keep airflow going so condensation evaporates rather than triggering surface mould.

If fruit arrives damaged, we replace 100% with photo evidence within 24 hours of delivery.

Where the Mango Comes From

Alphonso mango orchards in Ratnagiri and Devgad, sourced from 48 villages

We source from 48 villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts — places like Pawas, Golap and Nachane in Ratnagiri taluka, and Devgad, Jamsande and Vijaydurg in Sindhudurg. Orchards are typically 12–25 years old, selected by Prashant Powle's team on Brix consistency and tree longevity.

Fruit is hand-harvested using a Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net and cutting mechanism. The tree is never shaken. The fruit never falls. For tall trees, we use an indigenously developed length-extending pole with a camera. That care at harvest is what prevents the bruising that shows up as black lenticels by the time a mango reaches Bareilly.

After harvest, every fruit is weighed, graded and scanned by an AI/ML-assisted machine that checks for internal issues (spongy tissue) and external deformities before packing. A controlled hot-water treatment reduces surface issues and extends shelf life.

Which villages supply the fruit that reaches Uttar Pradesh?

The majority of north India orders ship from Ratnagiri-origin fruit. Villages like Purnagad, Gaonkhadi and Ambeshet (Ratnagiri taluka) and Kelshi, Velneshwar and Anjarle (Rajapur and Lanja talukas) are part of our sourcing network. Fruit is packed at our Malvan packing centre or the Devgad packing point before road transport to Mumbai.

How We Ripen It

Natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening only, in temperature-controlled rooms. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours at the Mumbai packhouse is natural ripening on hay, monitored — not gas-triggered.

This matters in Bareilly. Carbide-ripened fruit ripens unevenly from the outside in. You get a yellow skin over white, starchy flesh. Hay-ripened Alphonso ripens from the seed outward — the flesh turns that characteristic saffron colour uniformly, and the aroma develops properly rather than smelling flat.

We run weekly carbide and pesticide-residue testing through the season at Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane — NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284. The April 2025 report (01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025) shows all 28 residues within Codex maximum residue limits; 27 of 28 were below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). One residue — thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg — was detected within the permitted limit of 0.2 mg/kg. We say independently tested, all residues within Codex limits. We do not say pesticide-free.

How to Spot a Real Alphonso

A ripe GI-certified Alphonso from Ratnagiri or Devgad has saffron-orange flesh with almost no fibre. The skin is thin, golden-yellow with a slight green blush at the stem end when dispatched (it deepens to full yellow over three days at room temperature). The aroma is strong, floral and slightly citrus — not the flat, acetylene smell of carbide-treated fruit.

What does Hapus mean?

Hapus (हापूस) is the Konkani name for Alphonso. You will see it used interchangeably. Bareli residents searching for Hapus Aam online are looking for the same GI No. 139 fruit grown in Ratnagiri and Devgad.

What You Actually Eat

Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 recommended daily allowance for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day).

Alphonso also contains mangiferin, a polyphenol compound. Govindappa et al. (2011) showed anti-inflammatory activity from mangiferin in a cell study — a cell study, not a clinical trial, so we are not calling it a medicine.

The pulp is suitable as a first fruit for babies from about 6 months. That is a serving suggestion, not medical advice.

Season Window and Off-Season Reality

Fresh Alphonso is available from February to June (the 2027 season starts on 1 February 2027). Peak is March to May. We do not sell fresh Alphonso from July to January. If you are reading this outside the season, the honest answer is: wait, or order Alphonso pulp or Aamras, which is available year-round.

Prashant Powle was interviewed by The Economic Times in June 2026 on the existential pressures the Alphonso crop faces from erratic weather (read the article). Yield varies by year. When the crop is lean, we do not stretch supply with inferior fruit — we simply reduce box availability. That is why ordering early in the season (February or March) tends to get you better fruit at better value than waiting until June.

Bareilly and the Alphonso Tradition

Bareilly sits in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh on the banks of the Ramganga River. It is a significant commercial city — furniture manufacturing, cotton, cereal, sugar trade — and a city that takes food seriously. The local preference for dense, sweet, aromatic mangoes makes Ratnagiri Alphonso a natural fit. Our north India repeat-order data bears this out: Bareilly-area customers who order once tend to reorder (46% of our customers across India reorder, averaging 2.8 boxes per season).

Bareilly also has its own mango heritage — the city sits close to major mango-growing belts of western Uttar Pradesh. But Alphonso does not grow in UP's climate. The laterite-rocky, coastal-wind-exposed soil of the Konkan, the salt air off the Arabian Sea, the specific rainfall pattern of Ratnagiri and Devgad — these are what give GI No. 139 fruit its Brix and aroma. A UP mango (Dasheri, Langra, Chausa) is excellent. Alphonso is simply a different fruit from a different terroir, and Bareilly residents increasingly want both.

People Also Ask

What is the cost of 1 kg Alphonso mango?

Alphonso mango prices vary by grade and origin. GI-certified Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso, naturally ripened on hay with no carbide, typically costs more than local market fruit because of the sourcing, grading and cold-chain involved. Prices change through the February to June season as supply tightens or eases.

For current per-kg or per-dozen pricing specific to Bareilly delivery, check alphonsomango.in — box sizes run from half dozen to two dozen.

What is Alphonso mango called in Gujarati?

In Gujarati, Alphonso mango is called Hapus — the same phonetic rendering used across Maharashtra in Marathi. The name derives from Afonso de Albuquerque, the Portuguese governor credited with introducing grafting techniques to the Konkan coast centuries ago. Both languages borrowed the name from the same Portuguese root.

Which mango is famous in Uttar Pradesh?

Uttar Pradesh is best known for Dussehri, grown around Malihabad near Lucknow, and Langra, associated with Varanasi. Chausa from Hardoi and Safeda are also widely grown there. None of these carry the GI-certified saffron-pulp character of Konkan Alphonso, which UP customers order from Maharashtra during the February to June window.

Where can I find Alphonso mangoes in Delhi?

GI-certified Alphonso mangoes reach Delhi through direct D2C dispatch from Mumbai packhouses, at INA market and select premium grocery stores during February to June, or through online orders. Market fruit is often unlabelled; GI authorisation is the clearest proof of Ratnagiri or Devgad origin.

Orders placed at alphonsomango.in ship via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees to Delhi pin codes, with the same hay-ripened fruit dispatched within 48–72 hours of harvest.
