Buy Alphonso Mango Online — Bhilwara

Bhilwara's local market rarely stocks genuine Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso. What you typically find is either a local variety mislabelled as Hapus, or carbide-ripened fruit that smells of chemicals before it smells of mango. AlphonsoMango.in ships directly from Konkan packhouses to Bhilwara — 48 to 72 hours from harvest to dispatch, then 1–3 days in transit.

Ratnagiri vs Devgad: Which Should You Order?

Both carry GI No. 139. The difference is subtle but real. Ratnagiri fruit — sourced from villages like Pawas, Golap, Nachane and Mirya — tends toward a brighter saffron-orange skin and a slightly tangier finish that many north Indian customers prefer. Devgad fruit, from villages like Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg and Kunkeshwar, sits at the sweeter end of the Brix range and has a deeper, almost buttery pulp. Our repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers shows north India leans Ratnagiri; Mumbai leans Devgad.

Delivery to Bhilwara and Across India

Fruit leaves the Mumbai packhouse at 70–80% ripeness — firm enough to handle transit, ripe enough to eat within about three days of delivery. Boxes are 5-ply corrugated fibreboard (130 gsm, alternate flute orientation) with a 12-slot partition that absorbs transit pressure so the fruit doesn't. Every mango sits in a foam-net sleeve (50–55 mm flat width) on a hay bed. Six air holes top and bottom keep airflow active as the fruit completes its natural ripening in the box.

Courier is BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees, depending on your pin code. Metro cities receive orders in 20–24 hours from dispatch. Bhilwara and most other Rajasthan destinations receive within 1–3 days. We service 15,000–17,000 pin codes across India.

We do not dispatch fresh Alphonso from July to January. The season closes in June and nothing is held in cold storage for off-season sale. That is an honest limit worth knowing before you plan a gift order.

How to Order

  1. Step 1 — Select your grade. Visit the mango collection, choose Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso, then pick your grade: Small (150–180 g), Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g) or Jumbo (275–300 g).
  2. Step 2 — Add to cart. Choose your box size — half dozen, 1 dozen or 2 dozen — and add to cart. Pre-orders for the upcoming season are accepted and can be cancelled before dispatch.
  3. Step 3 — Dispatch. Your order is shipped via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code, reaching Bhilwara in 1–3 days from dispatch.

If fruit arrives transit-damaged or quality-failed, photograph or video the fruit and packaging and send it on WhatsApp within 24 hours of delivery. No physical return is needed — we dispatch a fresh replacement or credit your account for the next purchase.

Origin and GI Certification

Hand harvesting Alphonso Hapus mango in Konkan — AlphonsoMango.in

GI Tag No. 139 covers Alphonso mangoes from Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts in Konkan, Maharashtra. Powle Home Foods holds GI Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019, as Authorised User AU/5974/GI/139/260. That number must appear on every box — if it doesn't, the fruit is not certified.

We source from 55 named villages across both districts. In Devgad taluka alone: Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Hindale, Naringre, Kanyabag, Padel, Girye, Rameshwar, Waghotan, Kunkeshwar, Mithbav and more. In Ratnagiri taluka: Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mavalange, Waravade, Purnagad, Gaonkhadi, Ambeshet, Mirya and others. These are sea-facing orchards, typically 12–25 years old, selected by Prashant Powle for Brix consistency and alternate-bearing management. Over 100 partner farmer families supply us under strict cultivation SOPs covering natural sprays and fertilisers from flowering to harvest.

What does the GI tag actually guarantee?

It guarantees geographic origin — that the fruit grew in the notified Ratnagiri or Sindhudurg zone. It does not, by itself, guarantee ripening method or residue levels. That is why we independently test for pesticide residues weekly through the season at Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane (NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284). The April 2025 report (01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025) found all 28 residues within Codex maximum residue limits; 27 of 28 were below the limit of quantification at 0.01 mg/kg.

How the Fruit Is Ripened

Every mango we sell is ripened on a hay bed — what Konkan farmers call Aadi ripening. The 24–48 hours at our Mumbai packhouse is natural ripening on hay, in temperature-controlled rooms, monitored throughout. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind.

Carbide ripening is common in wholesale markets across Rajasthan. It forces colour change without developing sugar. The result looks ripe but tastes flat and smells faintly of acetylene. Natural hay-bed ripening takes longer and costs more in handling, but the Brix reaches 18–24° because the fruit's own enzymes complete the job.

Harvest itself is careful. Our farmers use a Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net and cutting mechanism — the tree is never shaken and fruit never falls to the ground. For tall trees, an indigenously developed camera-fitted length-extending pole is used. The fruit goes from tree to the Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse within about two hours, undergoes post-harvest cooling and a hot-water treatment to reduce surface issues, then travels by air-conditioned vehicle to Mumbai. Total time from harvest to dispatch: 48–72 hours.

Grading, Testing and Quality

Every fruit is weighed and graded individually. AI/ML-assisted machine scanning checks each mango for internal defects — including spongy tissue — and external deformities before packing. Only fruit that passes goes into a box.

We assumed early on that premium-priced fruit would have near-zero spongy tissue complaints. The grading table proved otherwise — spongy tissue can be invisible externally even in high-Brix fruit. That is exactly why the machine scanning step was added. It is not a marketing claim; it is a response to a real quality problem that hit us in early seasons.

Ratnagiri Alphonso won the Gold Medal at the national One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2024 — a district-product recognition, not an award to AlphonsoMango.in specifically, but a marker of where the fruit stands nationally.

Storage and Ripening at Home

Fruit arrives at 70–80% ripeness. Leave it at room temperature for about three days. Do not refrigerate unripe mangoes — cold stops the ripening process and damages the texture. Once fully soft, refrigerate and consume within two to three days. A ripe Alphonso gives slightly under thumb pressure and the stem end smells intensely sweet.

If you receive six or more mangoes and don't want them all at once, leave half at room temperature and refrigerate the rest while still firm. Bring them out a day before you want them.

What to do if a mango arrives damaged

Report within 24 hours of delivery. Send photos or video of the fruit and packaging on WhatsApp. We do not ask you to return anything. A fresh replacement is dispatched or the amount is credited to your account for the next purchase.

Nutrition

Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 recommended daily intake for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for women (65 mg/day). Mangiferin, a polyphenol found in mango pulp and skin, has shown anti-inflammatory activity in cell studies (Govindappa et al., 2011).

Alphonso puree is suitable for babies from about six months as a first food — keep this as a serving suggestion, not medical advice, and introduce it alongside other foods as recommended by your paediatrician.

People Also Ask

What is the cost of 1 kg Alphonso mango?

Alphonso mango price depends on grade, origin and season. Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso are sold by the dozen — half dozen, 1 dozen or 2 dozen — not loose by the kilo, because loose weight handling bruises the fruit. Prices vary each season based on yield and harvest conditions across Konkan.

Which is the best variety of Alphonso mango?

Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso, both carrying GI Tag No. 139, are widely regarded as the finest. Ratnagiri fruit has a bright saffron skin and a lightly tangy finish. Devgad sits at the sweeter end of the 18–24° Brix range with a deeper, buttery pulp. Both are distinct from any other mango variety grown in India.

Our repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers shows north Indian buyers — including those in Rajasthan — tend to prefer Ratnagiri for its brighter flavour profile.

Why is Alphonso mango costly?

Alphonso from Ratnagiri and Devgad is expensive because of strict conditions: sea-facing orchards aged 12–25 years, careful hand-harvesting with pole-and-net tools so fruit never falls, individual weight grading, foam-net sleeves, 5-ply courier-grade boxes, and air-conditioned transport from packhouse to Mumbai. Each mango also passes AI-assisted scanning for internal defects before packing.

The fruit ripens naturally on a hay bed — no carbide, no ethylene — which limits how fast batches can be turned around, keeping volume tight and price firm.

What is Alphonso mango called in Gujarati?

In Gujarati, Alphonso mango is commonly called Hafus — a phonetic adaptation of the Marathi word Hapus, which itself derives from the Portuguese Afonso. The name refers to the same GI-tagged fruit grown in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, and Gujarati-speaking buyers across Rajasthan use Hafus and Hapus interchangeably when asking for genuine Konkan Alphonso.

Prashant Powle was interviewed by The Economic Times in June 2026 as a GI-certified Alphonso grower and trader on weather, yield and the pressures facing the Alphonso crop (Famous Alphonso mango is facing existential crisis this year).
