Buy Indian Mangoes Online: Fresh and Juicy Delivered - AlphonsoMango.in

Indian mangoes come in dozens of named varieties, from Alphonso and Kesar to Dasheri and Totapuri. You can buy Indian mangoes online from AlphonsoMango.in, where we sell Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso, Kesar and Pairi by the dozen, plus Alphonso pulp tins all year.

Types of Indian mangoes

India is the largest producer of mangoes in the world, with roughly 43% of the global total, about 26 million tonnes in 2023, according to FAO figures summarised on Wikipedia. Those figures also include mangosteens and guavas, so treat the share as an approximation. The mango is the national fruit of India, and Amir Khusrau, the 13th-century poet, called it the fairest fruit of Hindustan.

No single list covers every variety, because regions keep their own local types. The table below names the ones buyers ask about most, with the state or region each is usually associated with. Taste, fibre and sweetness vary by grade and by season, so we do not rank them.

Alphonso, Kesar and Pairi: the three we sell fresh

Ratnagiri Alphonso mango Hapus, one of the Indian mangoes sold by the dozen

Alphonso is the Konkan mango, called Hapus in Marathi. It is named after Afonso de Albuquerque, and mango grafting was introduced in Portuguese Goa by Jesuit missionaries. A ripe fruit usually weighs 150 to 300 g, and the pulp is rich, creamy and non-fibrous. We sell Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso from Rs 1,849 per dozen. Ratnagiri is a district and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district, both in the Konkan belt, and both grow the same variety.

Kesar is a Gujarat variety, said to have been grown in 1931 by the Junagadh Wazir Sale Bhai and said to have been known as Kesar since 1934, when the Nawab of Junagadh remarked on its orange pulp. Our Kesar Mango starts from Rs 999 per box. Pairi is sold as a dozen at Rs 2,799; see the Pairi Mango page.

Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt is GI-tagged, GI No. 139, and we hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). Kesar and Pairi do not carry that certificate.

How to choose Indian mangoes online

Buying online means you cannot smell the fruit first, so the answers a seller gives matter more. Use the same questions with every seller.

  • Which variety, and from where? A seller should name both. For Alphonso, ask for the GI paperwork.
  • How many fruits make a dozen, and what does it weigh? Our dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade.
  • How was it ripened? Calcium carbide is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.
  • Does the seller hold a food licence? We are an FSSAI-licensed seller.
  • What happens on arrival? We ask customers to report damage within 24 hours of delivery.

No look, smell or home test proves how a mango was ripened. A bucket-of-water test is a rough clue, not proof. Our guide on identifying carbide-ripened mangoes covers the clues.

Which Indian mango for which use

The English word mango comes from the Portuguese manga, which came from Malayalam, and the root is Tamil man plus kay. India has many ways to use the fruit, so it helps to think about what you plan to make before you pick a variety.

  • Eating fresh: Alphonso and Kesar are bought mostly for slices and for eating by hand. Choose the grade and dozen size that suits your family.
  • Aamras, milkshakes and kulfi: pulp is the base. APEDA lists Alphonso, Totapuri, Neelum and Kesar among the varieties used for mango pulp, and says pulp is sterilised and packed in aseptic bags or hermetically sealed cans.
  • Gifting: a boxed dozen of a named variety is easy to explain and to receive. See our gifting page.
  • Out of season: our Alphonso mango pulp tin, from Rs 590, is sold all year, in 850 g and 3.1 kg tins.

Season and delivery in India

Indian mango seasons differ by variety and by state. Alphonso is harvested about February to June, and the best supply is March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside it, fresh Alphonso is not sold by us, while Alphonso pulp tins, from Rs 590, are available all year.

In general, harvests in the south and west of India start earlier than those in the north, so the variety you want decides when you can buy it. Do not plan a Dasheri or Langra order around the Alphonso dates, and check each product page for its own availability before you commit to a gift date.

We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Orders received before 1 PM are dispatched the same day. Check your PIN code at checkout. Delivery inside India is a standard service. Our guide to mango delivery in India explains the steps.

Indian mangoes abroad

People also search for Indian mangoes in the USA, the UK or other countries. We ship directly to the UAE. For other countries, shipments have been arranged through the customer's contact abroad and are not a standard service, so please write to us first. Import rules differ by country. For example, the United States banned Indian mangoes in 1989 and lifted the ban in April 2007, and fruit may enter under conditions that include irradiation before shipment. Check current rules with your importer or customs agent. Our mango export page has more.
