Hyderabad mangoes and Alphonso: what is different

Hyderabad is not short of mangoes. Banganapalli, Himayat and Totapuri are familiar names in the city's fruit markets, and each has its own fans. We do not rank one mango above another. They are different fruit, bought for different reasons.

Alphonso is known for smaller fruit and a rich, creamy, non-fibrous pulp. Wikipedia describes Alphonso fruit as generally weighing 150 to 300 g. Because the pulp has no fibre to strain out, it blends smoothly, which is why most families name Alphonso when they plan aamras. If you are choosing between the two grades we sell, both are the same Alphonso variety, so pick by the dozen size and grade that fits your family.

Not sure how much to order? A dozen is a convenient unit for a household of four to six, and a larger box suits a joint family or a gift for several homes. Our guide to ordering Alphonso mangoes online walks through the sizes.

How delivery to Hyderabad works

Mango delivery in Hyderabad from AlphonsoMango.in by Blue Dart

We dispatch by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Whether your PIN code is one of them depends on the address, not on the city name, so we do not promise a fixed day for Hyderabad. Enter your PIN code at checkout and you will see what applies. Addresses in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Gachibowli, Kukatpally and Miyapur are entered in exactly the same way as any other address.

Delivery charges, if any, are shown at checkout. A few practical points make the first day easier:

  • Give a phone number that will be answered, because the courier may call before delivery.
  • Open the box on the day it arrives and check the fruit.
  • If anything arrives damaged, report it to us within 24 hours of delivery at support@alphonsomango.in or on 8369048029.

When the box arrives

Alphonso takes about 15 days from harvest to full ripeness, so some fruit can reach you firm and finish ripening at home. Keep the mangoes at room temperature, away from direct sun, and give them space so air can move between the fruit. Ripe Alphonso smells sweet near the stalk and gives slightly under gentle pressure. Refrigerate only once the fruit is ripe, since cold stops the ripening of unripe fruit.

We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.

For day-by-day handling, read our guide to ripening Alphonso mango at home.

Season, and what to buy when fresh mango is not on sale

The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Alphonso is harvested about February to June, and supply is best from March to May. Until the season opens, fresh Alphonso shows as out of stock on the product pages. We do not sell fresh Alphonso outside the season.

If you want the taste of Alphonso in the meantime, our Alphonso mango pulp tins are available all year, and our freeze-dried Alphonso cubes are another option. The pulp works well for aamras, milkshakes and desserts. Try our aamras recipe with a tin.

Where the fruit comes from

Hapus Alphonso mango from Konkan for delivery in Hyderabad

We source from 48 villages across the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Konkan is a stretch of the western coast of India between the Arabian Sea and the Deccan Plateau. Ratnagiri is a district, and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district. The fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, and harvest is done at Brahma Muhurta, before dawn.

Alphonso from this belt is GI-tagged in India (GI No. 139). We hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). You can read the details on our Brand Facts page.

Buying real Alphonso in Hyderabad

Whoever you buy from, ask three questions: Which villages does the fruit come from? How is it ripened? Can the seller show a GI Authorised User certificate? No home test, including the bucket or water test, proves how a mango was ripened. At best it is a rough clue, not proof. Our checklist on how to identify an Alphonso mango explains the other clues and their limits.
