Mango fruit purchase: Alphonso, Kesar and Hapus on one site
A mango fruit purchase online usually starts with a name: Alphonso, Kesar or Hapus. Two of those three are the same fruit. Hapus is the Marathi name for Alphonso. Kesar is a different mango from Gujarat. We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, the business behind AlphonsoMango.in, and we sell both, each on its own page and each priced by the box or dozen.

- Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango and Devgad Alphonso Mango, both from Rs 1,849 per dozen.
- Kesar Mango: half-dozen Rs 999, dozen Rs 1,699.
- Pairi Mango, a Konkan variety, from Rs 2,799 per dozen.
- Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin, from Rs 590, available all year.
Prices change with grade and size, so check the product page for today's price. The full range is on the mango collection.
Alphonso or Kesar: how to choose
Neither is better in every way. They differ in origin, season and how people use them, and the right choice depends on what you plan to do with the box.
| Point | Alphonso (Hapus) | Kesar |
|---|---|---|
| Where it grows | Ratnagiri and Devgad belt, Konkan, Maharashtra | Girnar and Gir foothills, Junagadh district, Gujarat |
| Pulp | Saffron-orange, rich and non-fibrous | Orange pulp; the name Kesar refers to the saffron-like colour |
| Our pricing | By the dozen, from Rs 1,849 | Half-dozen Rs 999, dozen Rs 1,699 |
| Fruit weight | Generally 150 to 300 g | Varies by grade |
| Seasonal timing | About February to June; best supply March to May | Generally a later-season mango |
| Common uses | Eaten cut, aamras, shakes | Eaten cut, aamras, lassi, kulfi |
Many families order both and use one for eating and one for aamras, but that is a personal choice, not a rule. We have not run a taste test between them and do not claim one is sweeter. If you want the detail on each, read our Kesar mango guide and our Ratnagiri and Devgad Hapus guide.
About the Alphonso side of the order
Our Alphonso is sourced across 55 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Alphonso from this belt is GI-tagged in India, and we hold the Alphonso GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI number 139). Ratnagiri is a district; Devgad is a taluka in neighbouring Sindhudurg district. Both are the same variety, and we do not rank one above the other.
The fruit is hand-harvested at Brahma Muhurta with a zela pole fitted with a catching net. Harvest to ripening of Alphonso takes about 15 days, so a box can hold firm and soft fruit together. More on the history and the name is in the origin of Hapus.
About the Kesar side of the order
Gir Kesar is grown around the Girnar and Gir foothills in Junagadh district, Gujarat. Kesar is said to have been grown in 1931 by the Junagadh Wazir Sale Bhai, and to have been known as Kesar since 1934, when the Nawab of Junagadh remarked on its orange pulp. We list Kesar as a separate product from Alphonso, with its own price and its own page, and none of the Alphonso certificate details apply to it.
For Kesar, the practical advice is the same as for any mango: let it ripen at room temperature, check daily, and eat or chill it once it gives at the shoulder and smells sweet. Our guide to buying Kesar mangoes online goes further.
How the fruit is ripened
We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller. No home test proves how any mango was ripened; the bucket-of-water test is a rough clue, not proof. Ask any seller how the fruit was ripened and where it grew.
- Lay the fruit in a single layer, away from direct sun.
- Keep it at room temperature until it softens; do not refrigerate firm fruit.
- Check daily. A sweet smell at the stalk and a slight give at the shoulder mean ripe.
- Chill ripe fruit briefly if you cannot eat it that day.
Our ripening guide covers the stages in more detail.
Using the fruit: cut, aamras, shakes and kulfi
If you are buying more than one variety, it helps to decide the use first. Fruit for eating cut should be ripe but still holding its shape. Fruit for aamras, lassi or kulfi can be very soft, because you are going to blend or scoop it anyway.
- Eating cut: chill ripe fruit for an hour, then slice the cheeks away from the stone and score them.
- Aamras: scoop soft pulp, blend briefly, and add a little milk only if you want it thinner. Our aamras recipe has quantities.
- Freezing: pulp keeps in small portions in the freezer, which helps when a whole box ripens together.
Mango carries natural sugars. If you manage diabetes, read our note on mango and diabetes and ask your doctor. We sell fruit, not medical advice.

Can I buy Alphonso and Kesar mangoes online together?
Yes. Both are listed on AlphonsoMango.in as separate products, each with its own page, price and cart line. Alphonso is sold by the dozen from Rs 1,849, and Kesar is Rs 999 for a half-dozen and Rs 1,699 for a dozen. Fresh mangoes are sold in season, and the 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027.
Is Alphonso or Kesar mango better?
Neither is better in every way, and we do not claim one is sweeter. Alphonso is a Konkan mango with saffron-orange, non-fibrous flesh, and Kesar is a Gujarat mango named for its orange pulp. Alphonso is the pricier of the two on our site. Many people buy both and decide by taste.
Is Hapus the same as Alphonso?
Yes. Hapus is the Marathi name for Alphonso, so Hapus aam and Alphonso mean the same variety. Kesar is a different mango, grown in Junagadh district of Gujarat. We list Ratnagiri Alphonso, Devgad Alphonso and Kesar separately because customers search for each by name, and each has its own price.
When can I order fresh Alphonso and Kesar mangoes?
Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May, and the 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Kesar is generally a later-season mango. We do not sell fresh mangoes outside the season, but Alphonso pulp tins are available all year. Check the product page for stock.
