The best place to buy mangoes online is a seller that names the variety and region, says how the fruit is ripened, shows its licence numbers and delivers to your PIN code. We try to meet all four at AlphonsoMango.in for Alphonso, Kesar and Pairi.
Seven checks before you pay
People search for the best place to buy mangoes online because the last box they ordered was hard, sour or not what the photo showed. There is no single answer that fits every buyer, so we give you the checks we would apply ourselves. Any seller, including us, should be able to answer them in writing before you pay.
- Variety and region. The listing should say Alphonso (Hapus), Kesar, Pairi or another variety, and where it was grown.
- Ripening method. Ask how the fruit was ripened, and ask for the answer in writing.
- Licences. A food seller in India should show an FSSAI licence number. For Alphonso, a GI certificate number is the verifiable check.
- Count and grade. The listing should say how many mangoes are in the box and their size grade, not only a weight.
- Delivery partner and PIN code check. You should be able to enter your PIN code before paying.
- Damage policy. Know how long you have to report a damaged box.
- Season fit. Fresh fruit should match the real season for that variety.
What a good answer looks like
| Check | Good answer | Our answer |
|---|---|---|
| Variety and region | Named variety, named growing region | Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt, Konkan; Kesar from Gujarat |
| Ripening | A clear statement of the method | Alphonso ripened naturally on hay beds, no carbide |
| Licences | FSSAI number shown; GI number for Alphonso | FSSAI-licensed seller; GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139) |
| Count and grade | Pieces per box and size grade | Sold by the dozen, with grade options on the product page |
| Delivery | Named courier, PIN code check | Blue Dart; about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery |
| Damage | A stated reporting window | Report damage within 24 hours of delivery |
| Season | Fresh fruit only in the real season | Alphonso about February to June; 2027 season opens 1 February 2027 |
We cannot tell you which other websites pass these checks, because we have not tested them and will not guess. What we can tell you is that you can run the same list on any seller, and that a seller who avoids the questions has told you something already.
What we sell and from what price
AlphonsoMango.in is run by Powle Home Foods, Mumbai, and we have sold mangoes online since 2020, with first sales offline in 2019. We have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. We source Alphonso from 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. Our Alphonso credentials are on the Brand Facts page.
| Mango | From | Order page |
|---|---|---|
| Ratnagiri Alphonso | Rs 1,849 per dozen | Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango |
| Devgad Alphonso | Rs 1,849 per dozen | Devgad Alphonso Mango |
| Kesar | Rs 999 per box | Kesar Mango |
| Pairi | From Rs 2,799 for 1 dozen | Pairi Mango |
| Alphonso pulp tin | Rs 590 for the 850 g tin | Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin |
A dozen of Alphonso weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade, and the largest Ratnagiri option goes up to Rs 5,399. We do not quote per-kilo rates, because grade changes the weight of a box. There is no GST on fresh mangoes, and the invoice shows this. The full range is in the mango collection.
Direct seller, marketplace or local shop
Each route has a trade-off, and none is wrong for every buyer. A local fruit shop lets you see and smell the fruit, but you depend on the shop for the origin story. A large marketplace gives you choice and a familiar checkout, but the seller behind the listing varies from one box to the next. A direct seller such as a farm-linked brand gives you one name to ask when something goes wrong, but you cannot touch the fruit before it arrives.
Whichever route you pick, read the listing for the variety, region, ripening method and licence numbers. Our own comparison of buying online and buying locally is in Alphonso mangoes cost: online vs local markets.
When to buy
Alphonso is harvested from about February to June, and the best supply runs from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season, so a listing that shows ready stock in the wrong months deserves a question about where the fruit came from and how long it has been stored.
Early in the season supply is smaller. In March to May you have the widest choice of grades. Buying a few days before an event gives the fruit time to ripen at home. What you can buy any month is our Alphonso pulp tin, in 850 g and 3.1 kg tins, from Rs 590.
Delivery and what happens on arrival
We dispatch by Blue Dart. About 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery, and the rest take longer. Check your PIN code at checkout and the page shows what is possible for your address. Choose a delivery address where someone can receive the box.
- Open the box on the day it arrives and check the fruit.
- Lay the mangoes in a single layer at room temperature, out of direct sun.
- Report any damage within 24 hours of delivery by writing to support@alphonsomango.in.
International delivery is limited. We ship directly to the UAE. For other countries, shipments have been arranged through the customer's contact abroad and are not a standard service, so write to us first.
Ripening and the carbide rule
We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide gas is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. That is why ripening is the second check on our list. No home test, including the water or bucket test, proves how a mango was ripened. Our guide to identifying carbide-free mangoes online explains what to ask.
Our fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, and harvest is done at Brahma Muhurta, before dawn. Once the box reaches you, how to ripen Alphonso mangoes at home covers the last few days.
City guides
If you want local detail, we have written city pages for Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata. Delivery depends on your PIN code in every case.
Buying mangoes as a gift
A dozen of Alphonso is a common gift for family, clients and festival visits. You can enter the recipient's address as the delivery address at checkout. For several recipients or a corporate order, write to us with your quantity, cities and dates, and read our corporate gift guide and gifting page. We supply restaurants and hotels as well, and you can write to us about that too.
