Delivery Across India

Every box leaves our Malvan packing centre or Devgad packing point within 48–72 hours of harvest. Air-conditioned vehicles carry fruit to our Mumbai packhouse, where it spends 24–48 hours on hay beds reaching 70–80% ripeness — firm enough to survive transit, soft enough to finish at your table within three days of delivery.

Courier is BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees, assigned by your pin code. We reach 15,000–17,000 serviceable pin codes. Metro cities get their boxes in 20–24 hours. Most other cities receive within 1–3 days.

Each box is 5-ply corrugated fibreboard (130 gsm, alternate flute orientation) with a 12-slot partition that absorbs transit pressure rather than letting the fruit carry it. Every mango sits in a foam-net sleeve that prevents skin friction — Alphonso lenticels blacken when rubbed — and the sleeve's diamond mesh keeps airflow around each fruit so condensation evaporates rather than sitting and triggering anthracnose.

If a fruit arrives damaged, photograph or video it and send that to us on WhatsApp within 24 hours of delivery. We dispatch a fresh replacement or credit your account for the next purchase. No physical return is needed.

How to Order

  1. Select your grade. Choose Ratnagiri (₹1849–₹5399) or Devgad (₹1849–₹5499) Alphonso. Grades run from Small (150–180 g per fruit) through Medium, Extra Large and Jumbo (275–300 g). Box options are half dozen, one dozen or two dozen.
  2. Add to cart. Pre-orders are accepted through the season window (February to June). A pre-order can be cancelled before dispatch — not after.
  3. Dispatch. We ship via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. Most Indian cities receive their order in 1–3 days.

What "Organic Mango" Actually Means

Organic mango from Konkan — natural ripening on hay beds

The word "organic" gets used loosely. In the context of Alphonso from Konkan, what it means in practice is this: no synthetic pesticides applied at any stage from flowering to harvest, no calcium carbide or ethylene for ripening, no GMO rootstock, and natural inputs — vermicompost, cow dung, farm waste — feeding the soil instead of soluble nitrogen salts.

Our partner farmers across 55 named villages in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg follow strict cultivation SOPs covering which natural sprays and fertilisers are permitted from flowering through to the day the fruit is cut. Orchards are typically 12–25 years old, sea-facing, selected specifically for Brix consistency and tree longevity.

What the Lab Found

In April 2025, Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd. (NABL accredited, Thane, certificate TC-8284) tested 28 pesticide residues on our Alphonso fruit. Certificate 01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025: 27 of 28 residues were below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). One — thiamethoxam — was detected at 0.013 mg/kg against a Codex maximum of 0.2 mg/kg. We say independently tested, all residues within Codex limits. We do not say pesticide-free, because one residue was detected, within limits.

We test weekly through the season. That is not common practice in this category.

Origin and Sourcing

Organic Alphonso mangoes from Ratnagiri and Devgad Konkan villages

Prashant Powle started this in 2017. The operating entity, Powle Home Foods, registered in July 2019. The first full commercial season ran in 2020. Since then, 47,000+ customers have ordered.

Sourcing covers 55 villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. In Devgad taluka alone: Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Girye, Rameshwar, Waghotan, Kunkeshwar and others. In Ratnagiri taluka: Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mavalange, Waravade, Purnagad, Ambeshet and more. Each orchard is selected by Prashant on Brix consistency, tree age and how the farmer manages alternate-bearing years — because an Alphonso tree that over-crops one year produces weaker fruit the next.

Harvest is by hand. A Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net and cutting mechanism clips each fruit at the stem. The tree is never shaken. Fruit never falls. For tall trees, an indigenously developed camera-equipped length-extending pole locates and cuts fruit that would otherwise be unreachable. This matters because a dropped Alphonso bruises internally without showing it on the skin — the bruise appears three days later at your table.

What Is GI No. 139?

GI No. 139 covers Alphonso mangoes from Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Powle Home Foods holds GI Authorised User number AU/5974/GI/139/260, GI Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019. This means the fruit we sell as GI-tagged Alphonso has been verified to originate from within the protected zone — not simply labelled so.

Ratnagiri Alphonso also won the Gold Medal at the national One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2024. That is a district-product award, not an award to this brand — but it signals the category's standing.

Ripening and Post-Harvest Practice

Every mango we dispatch was ripened on a hay bed — what Konkan farmers call Aadi ripening. This is the traditional method: fruit is laid on straw in temperature-controlled rooms, where ethylene released naturally by the fruit itself drives the ripening. No gas tanks, no carbide sachets, no ethylene chambers.

After harvest, fruit goes through post-harvest hot-water treatment to reduce surface issues. It then cools at the packhouse before the 10–12 hour air-conditioned drive to Mumbai. At the Mumbai packhouse, 24–48 hours on hay brings it to 70–80% ripeness. Then it goes into the box and into the courier network.

Every mango is weighed, graded by weight class, and scanned — AI/ML-assisted machine scanning checks for spongy tissue internally and external deformities. If a fruit fails, it does not get packed.

Nutrition

Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 recommended daily allowance for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Mangiferin, a polyphenol found in Alphonso pulp, showed anti-inflammatory activity in a cell study (Govindappa et al., 2011). We cite that study specifically because it is the one we have verified — we do not round up with vague health claims.

Alphonso puree is suitable as a first food for babies from around six months. Keep that as a serving suggestion, not medical advice — every child is different.

Season and Availability

The Alphonso season runs February to June, with peak volume in March, April and May. Outside those months, fresh Alphonso is not available anywhere — from us or anyone else. Trees in Pawas, Golap, Vijaydurg and the other villages we source from produce one crop per year. July to January, the fruit simply does not exist.

We accept pre-orders before the season opens. If you pre-order, you can cancel before dispatch. Once a box is packed and handed to the courier, the order cannot be cancelled — but if the fruit arrives damaged, our replacement or credit policy applies.

46% of our customers reorder within the same season or the following one. The average customer takes 2.8 boxes per season. That repeat behaviour tells you more about the fruit than any description we could write.

How fast is delivery after I order organic mango online?

Most metro cities receive their order in 20–24 hours. Other cities receive within 1–3 days. Courier is BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees by pin code. We reach 15,000–17,000 pin codes across India.

Authority

Powle Home Foods (AlphonsoMango.in), founded by Prashant Powle in 2017, holds GI Authorised User number AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019), FSSAI licence 10020022011783 and APEDA registration 225579. All fruit is hay-bed ripened — no carbide, no ethylene chambers, no artificial ripening agents of any kind. Pesticide residue testing is conducted weekly through the season by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd. (NABL accredited, Thane), with all results within Codex maximum residue limits. The brand has served 47,000+ customers since its first commercial season in 2020 and holds a 4.35★ verified buyer rating on Judge.me.

Source: Powle Home Foods (AlphonsoMango.in), Envirocare Labs certificate 01/ETHAP2500044 issued 5 April 2025 — 28 residues tested, all within Codex limits, 27 of 28 below the limit of quantification.

People Also Ask

Is it worth buying organic mango?

Yes, if you care what goes into the fruit before it reaches you. Conventionally ripened mangoes in India are often treated with calcium carbide, a banned substance. Organically grown Alphonso from Konkan skips that entirely — natural hay-bed ripening, no synthetic ripening agents, independently tested by Envirocare Labs with all 28 residues within Codex limits.

For Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso grown this way, prices start at ₹1849 for a half dozen — a reasonable premium when the alternative is carbide-ripened fruit from an unknown source.

Does it matter if mango is organic?

It matters most at ripening. Calcium carbide, still widely used on Indian mangoes despite being banned under FSSAI rules, introduces arsenic and phosphine to the fruit surface. Organic Alphonso from Konkan is ripened on hay beds with no carbide, no ethylene chambers. An April 2025 NABL lab test found 27 of 28 residues below the detection limit entirely.

If you are buying for children or eating mango daily through the March–June season, the ripening method is the single most important variable to check.

What is organic mango good for?

Organic mango gives you the nutritional profile of the fruit without the ripening-agent residue question. Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C per 100 g — about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 daily requirement for adult men. It also contains mangiferin, a polyphenol studied by Govindappa et al. in 2011 for anti-inflammatory activity in cell models.

Alphonso puree from hay-ripened fruit is also used as an early weaning food from around six months — the natural sugar profile and soft texture suit that purpose well.

What's the healthiest mango?

GI-tagged Alphonso from Ratnagiri or Devgad, grown without synthetic pesticides and ripened on hay beds, is as clean as commercially sold mango gets in India. Brix at full ripeness runs 18–24°, meaning high natural sugar with the fibre and polyphenols intact. Devgad fruit typically sits at the upper end of that Brix range, with a creamier, more aromatic pulp.

Healthiest is partly variety and partly practice — the same Alphonso variety ripened with carbide is a different product from one ripened on hay beds and independently tested weekly through the season.
