An Alphonso mango order for weddings starts with the fruit count: guests or hampers multiplied by mangoes per hamper, divided by 12 for dozens, plus a small backup. Order early, because the season runs only from about February to June. Write to us.
Alphonso suits a wedding because it is seasonal, easy to recognise and seen as a premium gift. It is also a fruit that ripens on its own schedule, which makes it harder to plan than boxed sweets. This page is for families, wedding planners and event teams who want to order Alphonso for welcome hampers, return gifts or a dessert counter, and want to get the numbers and the dates right.
Quantity maths for wedding guests
Start with the count of mangoes, not boxes. A dozen is 12 fruits, and a dozen from us weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade, so the weight of each fruit depends on the grade you pick. Use this simple method:
- Decide the number of hampers or gift recipients. Count families or rooms, not every individual guest, if one hamper goes to each room.
- Decide how many mangoes go into each hamper.
- Multiply the two numbers to get the total fruit.
- Divide by 12 to get dozens.
- Add a backup allowance, covered below.
| Hampers | Mangoes per hamper | Total fruit | Dozens before backup |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | 4 | 200 | about 17 |
| 100 | 4 | 400 | about 34 (rounded up) |
| 100 | 6 | 600 | 50 |
| 250 | 6 | 1,500 | 125 |
The table is an arithmetic example, not a recommendation. Your budget and the size of the fruit decide how many mangoes a hamper can hold. Because a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg, 34 dozens could be a very different load depending on grade, so tell your supplier the grade and the fruit count you want, not just the weight.
Welcome hampers, return gifts and dessert counters
The three uses call for different fruit, so decide which one you are buying for before you place the order.
- Welcome hampers. These go to guests on arrival, often to hotel rooms. A small set of fruit works well, because guests may eat it the next day or take it home. Choose Ratnagiri Alphonso or Devgad Alphonso in the grade that fits your budget.
- Return gifts. These are handed out at the end of the event. Guests travel, so firm fruit that can sit in a car or a suitcase for a day is safer than fully ripe fruit. If you need hundreds of identical gifts, order one grade for all of them.
- Dessert counters. Aamras, mango mousse, kulfi and cut fruit stations. Fresh fruit works, and Alphonso pulp tins (850 g and 3.1 kg, from Rs 590) are more predictable for large batches. Your caterer will know the quantity per serving. Our page for supplier for restaurants and caterers covers the kitchen side.
If the gift list is for staff or clients rather than wedding guests, see our corporate gifting guide and the gift form.
When to order and when the fruit ripens
Fresh Alphonso is harvested from about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside those months we do not sell fresh Alphonso, so a wedding in July or in the winter months needs pulp or another gift. The harvest is done at Brahma Muhurta, before dawn. Alphonso takes about 15 days from harvest to ripening. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.
How early should you order? Order as soon as your date and head count are fixed. Write to us with your date and quantity and we will tell you what we can do.
For ripeness, work backwards from the event. Fruit that arrives firm needs several days at room temperature to ripen, and not every mango ripens on the same day. If guests will eat the fruit at the event itself, you want it ripe at that time. If it is a take-home gift, firm fruit is safer. Tell us whether guests will eat it at the event or take it home and we will say what we can do. Our guide on how to ripen Alphonso mangoes at home explains the steps for the recipient.
Backup planning
Any fresh fruit shipment can have damage in transit, and a late guest list can add hampers. A backup quantity protects you from both. There is no fixed rule. Set a backup that suits how critical a missing hamper would be. Some points:
- Decide the backup number before you order, and write it into the order.
- Keep the backup fruit in the same grade, so a replacement hamper looks identical.
- Open and check the delivery on the day it arrives. We ask that damage be reported within 24 hours of delivery.
- Keep a fallback gift for the day, such as a sealed pulp tin or a sweet, in case fruit is short.
- Ask the supplier what happens if some of the fruit is damaged, and write the answer down.
Destination weddings and multi-day events
When the event is in another city, the delivery plan matters as much as the fruit. We deliver by Blue Dart, and about 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery. Check the PIN code of the venue at checkout, and write to us before a large order so we can plan dates with you. Do not assume that a resort or a remote venue is on the next-day list.
- Choose a person at the venue to receive and check the boxes, and share their phone number with the supplier.
- Ask the venue where the fruit can be stored at room temperature, away from kitchen heat.
- For a multi-day event, split the order into lots, so fresh fruit arrives close to each day. This spreads the ripening.
- If guests are flying home, firm fruit in a sturdy box travels better than ripe fruit.
What to ask any supplier
- Fruit count per dozen, the grade, and the weight of the dozen.
- Origin, and a certificate you can check. Ours is GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139), listed on the Brand Facts page.
- Packaging for hampers and transit, and whether fruit arrives firm or ripe.
- Delivery dates, the cut-off for orders, and what happens if a lot is late.
- Damage reporting time and what the seller does next.
- Quantity limits, payment terms, quotation validity and invoice details. These vary by seller, so get them in writing.

How many mangoes do I need for a wedding return gift?
Multiply the number of gift recipients by the mangoes per gift, then divide by 12 for dozens and add a backup. For example, 100 hampers with 4 mangoes each is 400 fruits, about 34 dozens (rounded up) before backup. Your budget and the fruit size decide the count per hamper.
How early should I order Alphonso mangoes for a wedding?

Can I buy Alphonso mangoes for wedding welcome hampers?
Yes, in season. Choose Ratnagiri or Devgad Alphonso by the dozen in the grade that fits your budget, and tell the supplier the fruit count and delivery date. Check the product page for the current price, and write to us for larger orders, so we can plan with you.
Can Alphonso mangoes be used on a wedding dessert counter?
Yes. Fresh fruit suits cut-fruit stations and garnish, and Alphonso pulp tins in 850 g and 3.1 kg sizes suit aamras, mousse and kulfi in large batches. Pulp is available all year from Rs 590 per tin. Your caterer can tell you how much pulp each serving needs.
