Despite growing in India for 6,000 years, mangoes were less famous there than they are now.

Afonso, who conquered them and made it the first Portugal colony, developed this variety of hapus to send them back to Portugal in the Columbian food exchange.

Goa and nearby areas like Devgad, Sindhudurga, and Ratnagiri were the perfect climatic and red soil conditions to cultivate Alphonso aam trees. These started a new love story between the there people and these hapus.

Alphonso Mango in Goa

Specific Goa Mango name

This scorching summer with excellent climatic conditions comes with its generous share of sweat, minerals, heat, and curses with the nearing sea breeze. There are lots of other juicy and chilled aambas during sweltering summer-like:

Alphonso Aam

King of Fruits worldwide with a soft, juicy, sweet, tender pulp, the Goa Alphonso is disappearing nowadays. It is preferred at present by them with Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango and Devgad Alphonso Mango, known for its richness and beautiful mesmerizing texture with significantly less fibre, lower than 3% of the whole fruit.

Excellent taste and a long shelf life make it highly popular and in demand in Goa. Ratnagiri Alphonso is especially needed, followed by Devgad Alphonso.

Our Alphonso aam comes with an Indian Government-approved Geographical Indication Tag, hand-harvested by our expert team.

Naturally ripened without applying any chemicals; hence, they are chemical and carbide-free.

They are grown in mango orchard trees and fed using the natural mulching method of cow dung, vegetation waste, honey, cow urine, and food waste. These materials are composted and put in the tree's roots before the monsoon.

Malgesh Amo!

A prevalent variety of north Goa Portuguese people named this fruit Malgesh because it was difficult for them to digest. Therefore, they used this fruit as a Table fruit.

It comes in different sizes, quality, and colour varieties.

(Bishop Amo)

Because they are limitedly cultivated in North Goa, they are typically consumed as home trees and are only available at very low rates.

They were harvested at the end of May and are of average quality. They are extensive and very susceptible to rotting inside. Because of their sour aftertaste, they are primarily used in pickles.

Hilario Aam

Hilario Aam is named after one farmer, Hilario Fernandes of Siolim village in the Bardez taluka of Goa.

This tree was reported on the Hilario farm; hence, it is called Hilario. They arrive late in May and are available until July. Many hapoos plantations exist in their countryside, which has plentiful fertile land and natural variations, such as the Ghats and the sea. However, their ground is also covered with hard rocks.

Hence, various efforts are made to blast rocks and refill the blasted area with soil and other materials.

Still, there are many plantations of Bishop, Hilario, Malgesh, Mankurad, Culas, Xavier, Mussarat, Fernandina, and many more. Again, nowadays, Hapus Aam is vanishing from there.
