Alphonso mango in Kolkata and Bengal's own mangoes
Bengal has a mango tradition of its own. Malda and Murshidabad send Himsagar, Langra and Fazli to Kolkata markets, and Bengali households have strong views on all three. Alphonso is a different fruit from the opposite coast. It grows in the Konkan belt of Maharashtra, on the Arabian Sea side of India, and the road from there to Kolkata is a long one. That is why a Kolkata buyer who wants Alphonso mostly orders it from a seller who ships by courier.

We are Powle Home Foods, a Mumbai business that runs AlphonsoMango.in. We send Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso (Hapus) to customers across India by Blue Dart. This page covers what Kolkata buyers usually ask: what Alphonso costs, how delivery works to a city on the east coast, how to tell a genuine box from a doubtful one, and when to order.
Alphonso mango price in Kolkata: what you pay and why it varies

Alphonso is sold by the dozen, and the price follows fruit size and the number of dozens. Our Ratnagiri Alphonso starts from Rs 1,849 per dozen for the smallest size and goes up to Rs 5,399 for the largest option. Devgad Alphonso also starts from Rs 1,849 per dozen. Prices can change, so check the product page for the price on the day you order.
| Factor | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Fruit size | Fruit runs from about 150 g to about 275 g each. Bigger fruit costs more per dozen. |
| Number of dozens | One dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Two-dozen boxes cost more in total but suit larger families. |
| Origin | Ratnagiri and Devgad fruit start at the same price per dozen at our store. |
| Delivery | Blue Dart delivery to Kolkata is shown at checkout against your PIN code. |
If you see a Kolkata market price quoted per kilogram, compare it carefully. A kilogram price does not tell you the fruit size, the grade, how the fruit was ripened or where it grew. We do not quote per-kilogram figures. We would rather you compare a dozen by size and origin. Our guide to Alphonso mango price in Kolkata sets out the same points.
What to check before you buy Alphonso in Kolkata
Ask the same questions of any seller, in a market, on a cart or online.
- Origin. Ask which villages the fruit comes from. We source across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast.
- GI paperwork. We hold the GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139), set out on our Brand Facts page.
- Ripening. Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide (acetylene) gas is prohibited under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.
- Licence. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller, licence number 10020022011783.
- Damage. We ask customers to report damage within 24 hours of delivery.
No single colour, smell or water test proves how a mango was ripened. Treat a bucket-of-water test as a rough clue, not proof. Our guide to identifying carbide-ripened mangoes explains the clues and their limits.
Where our Alphonso comes from

Alphonso is the Konkan's best-known mango. Ratnagiri is a district, and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district. Both grow the same variety, and we do not rank one above the other. We harvest at Brahma Muhurta, before sunrise, and pick by hand with a zela pole fitted with a catching net. The fruit then ripens naturally on hay beds before it is packed.
On our order page you can pick Ratnagiri Alphonso or Devgad Alphonso. Choose by fruit size and dozens rather than by place name.
Delivery to Kolkata

We dispatch from Mumbai by Blue Dart. About 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery, and we never promise a day for a named city, because the answer depends on your PIN code. Kolkata and its suburbs are far from the Konkan, so enter your address at checkout and read the estimate before you pay.
April and May in Kolkata are hot and humid. Take the box out of the carton the day it arrives, spread the fruit on a tray in a cool room and keep it out of direct sun. Do not seal ripening mangoes in plastic bags, which can trap moisture. Keep firm fruit out of the fridge until it softens at the stalk end. If any fruit is damaged in transit, tell us within 24 hours of delivery.
There is no GST on fresh mangoes, and the invoice shows it. Our online mango delivery in Kolkata guide has more on ordering from the city.
When to order Alphonso for Kolkata
Alphonso is harvested about February to June, and the best supply runs from March to May. Our 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. That window overlaps the first weeks of Bengal's own mango season, so some Kolkata families buy a box of Alphonso in April and then turn to Himsagar and Langra in late May and June. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season. Alphonso pulp tins, from Rs 590, are available all year, and the Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin works for aamras, ice cream and desserts when fresh fruit is not available.
Not sure how much to order? One dozen suits a small household, and a second dozen suits guests or gifts. See our guide to the mango season in India for the month-by-month picture.
Gifting mangoes in Bengal
Mangoes are part of Bengali gifting. Jamai Shashthi, in the summer month of Jyaishtha, is traditionally marked with mangoes among other foods, and many families send fruit to relatives in other cities. If you are sending Alphonso to family outside Kolkata, or want a corporate order, write to us with the quantity, the cities and the dates and we will tell you what is possible. We supply restaurants and hotels too. Our corporate gifting guide lists the questions to put to any supplier.
