Alphonso mango online in Rajkot: what to expect

Rajkot sits in Saurashtra, the part of Gujarat where Gir Kesar grows, so a Rajkot household already knows what a good mango tastes like. Buyers here ask us about Alphonso because it is a different fruit, not a substitute for Kesar. This page explains how an Alphonso order reaches Rajkot, what the GI tag does and does not tell you, and how to handle the fruit in a hot city.
We are Powle Home Foods in Mumbai, and we run AlphonsoMango.in. We started selling offline in 2019 and online in 2020, and we have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller, and our fruit is sourced across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast.
Saurashtra is Kesar country, and Alphonso is the guest
Gir Kesar is said to have been grown in 1931 by the Junagadh Wazir Sale Bhai, and to have been called Kesar since 1934, when the Nawab of Junagadh remarked on its orange pulp. If Kesar is your favourite, you can order it from us as well: it is Rs 999 for a half dozen and Rs 1,699 for a dozen on the Kesar Mango page. Alphonso is the Konkan mango, and it grows on the western coast of Maharashtra, far from Saurashtra.
- Kesar: a Gujarat variety with orange pulp, sold by the half dozen and the dozen.
- Alphonso: the Hapus of Ratnagiri and Devgad, sold by the dozen from Rs 1,849.
You can keep both in the house in a season. Our neighbouring city guides cover the same choice for Ahmedabad and Anand.
What the GI tag means for a Rajkot buyer
A Geographical Indication identifies goods as coming from a territory where a quality or reputation belongs to that origin. Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt is GI-tagged in India (GI No. 139), and we hold the GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139). You can read the details on our Brand Facts page.
The tag tells you about the origin of the variety. It does not tell you how a particular box was ripened or packed, and it does not replace the questions every buyer should ask. Where did the fruit grow? How was it ripened? How many fruits are in the box? The GI credential covers Alphonso only. It does not apply to Kesar.
Ratnagiri or Devgad: picking for your first box

Ratnagiri is a district and Devgad is a taluka in Sindhudurg district. Both grow Alphonso. We do not say that one is sweeter, earlier or better, and we do not compare them on ripening time. For a first box, open the Ratnagiri Alphonso page or the Devgad Alphonso page and choose by the size of the fruit and your budget.
If you cannot decide between the two pages, take Ratnagiri for the first dozen and Devgad for the second, and treat the comparison as your own tasting rather than ours. A fruit generally weighs 150 to 300 g, and a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade. Prices start from Rs 1,849 per dozen and go up to Rs 5,399 for the largest Ratnagiri option. We sell by the dozen and do not quote a price per kilogram. Check the product page for the current price. Our guide on why Ratnagiri Alphonso explains the Ratnagiri side.

Ripening in a hot city, and how we ripen

Alphonso takes about 15 days from harvest to ripening. Our fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, at Brahma Muhurta, the pre-dawn hour. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide ripening is prohibited under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011.
Rajkot summers are hot, and a warm room speeds up ripening. Check the box daily once the first aroma appears, and keep it out of direct sun. Move fruit to the fridge only when it is ripe. A water test is a rough clue, not proof, and the guide to ripening Alphonso at home lists better signs: aroma, a slight give near the stalk and even colour.
Season dates, pulp and cashews
Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside the season we do not sell fresh Alphonso, and Alphonso pulp tins are available all year in 850 g and 3.1 kg sizes from Rs 590 on the Alphonso Mango Pulp page.

We also sell cashews, including W180 jumbo whole kaju. See the W180 cashew nuts page if you want to add them to your order. Browse everything we list in the mango collection.
