Buy NowRatnagiri vs Devgad: Which Should You Order?
Both carry GI No. 139. The difference is orchard microclimate and, in our order data, a clear geographic preference: north India — including Gujarat — leans Ratnagiri; Mumbai leans Devgad. Here is what the grading table actually shows.

Our data from 47,000+ customers shows Vadodara buyers tend to reorder Ratnagiri fruit. That said, Devgad fruit — sourced from villages like Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg and Kunkeshwar — hits a noticeably deeper sweetness in a strong season. If this is your first order, Ratnagiri Medium is the reliable starting point.
Delivery Across India
Every box travels in an air-conditioned vehicle from either our Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse to the Mumbai packhouse. Total time from harvest to dispatch: 48–72 hours. The fruit spends 24–48 hours at Mumbai on a natural hay bed — no ethylene, no gas — then goes out via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. We cover 15,000–17,000 serviceable pin codes across India.
Transit to metro cities including Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Surat: typically 20–24 hours. Most other Gujarat pin codes: 1–3 days. Each mango travels in a foam-net sleeve inside a 5-ply corrugated CFB box with a 12-slot partition. The partition carries transit pressure, not the fruit. Six air holes — top and bottom — keep airflow moving so condensation does not trigger anthracnose.
Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness. It finishes ripening within three days of delivery. We replace 100% of damaged fruit with photo evidence within 24 hours of delivery.
Where These Mangoes Actually Come From
We source from 55 named villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. In Ratnagiri taluka: Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mavalange, Waravade, Purnagad, Gaonkhadi, Ambeshet, Mirya, Kalbadevi, Majgaon, Kasheli and Adi. In Devgad taluka: Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Hindale, Naringre, Kunkeshwar, Mithbav and others. Orchards in our network are typically 12–25 years old — young enough for consistent yield, mature enough for depth of flavour.
Founder Prashant Powle built the sourcing network starting in 2017. By the 2020 season, when the first full commercial dispatch ran, 100+ partner farmer families were under formal SOPs covering natural spray schedules, fertiliser use from flowering to harvest, and Brix-consistency checks. The sea-facing, laterite-soil character of these orchards — combined with the salt-laden Konkan breeze — is what produces the characteristic saffron hue and fibre-free pulp. You cannot replicate that in Gujarat's drier inland climate, which is why Kesar and Alphonso remain distinct fruits.
What is the difference between Hapus and Alphonso?
None. Hapus is the Marathi name for Alphonso. Gujarati speakers sometimes call it Hafus Keri. The GI tag (No. 139) applies to Alphonso mango grown in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts — and both names refer to exactly the same fruit.
How to Spot Genuine GI-Tagged Alphonso
Vadodara's local markets carry plenty of mango during summer — but not all of it is Alphonso, and most Alphonso sold loose at sabzi mandis is not GI-certified. Three things to check before you buy anywhere:
1. GI Authorised User number. Powle Home Foods holds AU/5974/GI/139/260, issued by the GI Registry (Certificate No. 4163, 16 October 2019). Any seller claiming GI certification should be able to produce this paperwork. Most cannot.
2. Ripening method. Genuine Alphonso is ripened on a hay bed (called Aadi ripening in Konkan). Carbide-ripened fruit turns uniformly yellow within hours but the skin near the stem stays pale and the flavour is flat. Our fruit is never exposed to calcium carbide or ethylene chambers. Envirocare Labs (NABL accredited, Thane, certificate TC-8284) tests our fruit weekly through the season — all 28 residue parameters within Codex maximum residue limits, 27 of 28 below the limit of quantification.
3. Harvest method. We use a Nutan/Zela pole fitted with a catching net — the tree is never shaken, the fruit never falls. A bruise from a fall shows up as a soft spot two days after delivery. An indigenously developed length-extending pole with a camera handles tall trees. This protects both the fruit and the tree's next flowering cycle.
Is Alphonso mango available in Vadodara in July?
No. The season closes by June. We do not sell fresh Alphonso from July to January. Any seller offering "fresh Alphonso" in August or September is selling something else under the name.
Ripening and What Arrives at Your Door
Every mango in our box is weighed, graded, and scanned — AI/ML-assisted machine vision checks each fruit for internal defects (spongy tissue) and external deformities before packing. A fruit that fails either check does not ship. This is why our 4.35-star rating on Judge.me holds across 47,000+ customers from 2019 to date.
The box arrives with fruit at 70–80% ripeness. Keep it at room temperature. Within three days it will be fully ripe — the saffron deepens, the stem end softens, and the aroma fills the room. Do not refrigerate before ripening. Once fully ripe, you can refrigerate for up to two days.
A 100 g serving of ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C, meeting about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 daily requirement for adult men and about 50% for adult women.
Season, Storage and When Not to Order
Season opens in February with early Ratnagiri fruit. March to May is peak — highest Brix, most consistent sizing, best availability across all grades. June brings late-season fruit, still good, but yields thin and prices can shift. July: season over. We ship nothing.
If you are buying for a gift or a corporate order, place it before mid-May to avoid late-season supply risk. We handled a multi-destination corporate dispatch for Messe Muenchen India Pvt. Ltd. in May 2026 — multi-city, multi-recipient, single order. For HoReCa and corporate orders from five dozen (roughly 15–20 kg) upward, contact us directly.
Storage after delivery: room temperature until ripe (2–3 days), then refrigerate for up to 2 days. Alphonso does not improve further once fully ripe — eat it then.

Which Alphonso mango is best in India?
Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso, both carrying GI No. 139, are the benchmark. Order data from 47,000+ customers shows north India and Gujarat — including Vadodara — lean toward Ratnagiri fruit. Where can I buy an Alphonso mango?
You can order GI-certified Alphonso mango online at alphonsomango.in and get delivery to Vadodara within 1–3 days via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. Local sabzi mandis in Vadodara carry mango in summer, but GI-certified, carbide-free, hay-ripened Alphonso from verified Konkan orchards is rarely available there.
The season runs February to June; no fresh Alphonso ships July to January.
What is the name of Alphonso mango in Gujarati?
Gujarati speakers call it Hafus Keri — a phonetic adaptation of Hapus, which is the Marathi name for the same fruit. All three names — Alphonso, Hapus and Hafus Keri — refer to the identical GI No. 139 variety grown in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra.
The GI tag uses 'Alphonso' as the official registered name, so that is what appears on authenticated packaging from authorised users like Powle Home Foods.
