Unlocking the power of mango for health means understanding that ripe Alphonso pulp delivers roughly 30–36 mg vitamin C per 100 g — about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 daily requirement for men — plus mangiferin, fibre, and beta-carotene, all in fruit available February to June.
Buy Alphonso Mango Online
We source Alphonso mangoes from 55 named villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg — villages like Pawas, Golap and Nachane in Ratnagiri taluka, and Devgad, Jamsande and Vijaydurg in Sindhudurg. Every box is dispatched fresh in season, February to June. No fresh Alphonso is available July to January.
Ratnagiri vs Devgad: Which Alphonso to Choose?
| Factor | Ratnagiri Alphonso | Devgad Alphonso |
|---|---|---|
| GI Number | GI No. 139 (AU/5974/GI/139/260) | GI No. 139 (AU/6932) |
| Brix at full ripeness | 18–24° | 18–24° (typically upper end) |
| Season window | February–June | February–June |
| Weight grades | 150–300 g per fruit (Small to Jumbo) | 150–300 g per fruit (Small to Jumbo) |
| Flavour character | Bright, floral, pronounced saffron note | Rich, dense, slightly deeper sweetness |
| Order trend | North India buyers lean Ratnagiri | Mumbai buyers lean Devgad |
| Box options | Half dozen, 1 dozen, 2 dozen | Half dozen, 1 dozen, 2 dozen |
Both carry the same GI No. 139. If you want the sweeter, denser fruit, Devgad is the pick. If you want that sharp, saffron-forward aroma that fills the room, Ratnagiri is it. We assumed Devgad was always the sweeter variety — the Brix data from our grading table shows both touch 24° at peak season, with Devgad more consistently there.
Delivery Across India
Fruit travels from the orchard to our Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse in about two hours. After post-harvest cooling, it moves to the Mumbai packhouse in air-conditioned vehicles (10–12 hours). There it rests on a hay bed for 24–48 hours of natural ripening — no gas, no chambers. Total harvest-to-dispatch time: 48–72 hours.
We dispatch by BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. Metro cities receive fruit within 20–24 hours of dispatch. Most other Indian cities receive it within 1–3 days. We reach 15,000–17,000 serviceable pin codes. Fruit leaves at 70–80% ripeness and finishes ripening naturally within about three days of delivery.
Every mango travels in a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard box with a 12-slot partition, foam-net sleeves and a hay bed. The partition carries transit pressure so the fruit does not. Six air holes keep airflow steady during the final ripening stage at your home.
Honest limitation: We do not ship fresh Alphonso between July and January. If you need mango products year-round, our Aamras and mango pulp are available outside the season.

Nutritional Profile of Alphonso Mango
A 100 g serving of ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C. That meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 recommended daily intake for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). The Alphonso at 18–24° Brix is not just sweet — that sugar comes packaged with beta-carotene, mangiferin, fibre and potassium in a way a glucose tablet never does.
Vitamins A and C in Alphonso Mangoes
Beta-carotene gives the Alphonso its deep saffron-gold colour. Your body converts it to vitamin A, which your retina and immune system both depend on. Vitamin C in the same fruit supports collagen synthesis and iron absorption from plant foods eaten at the same meal. These two vitamins working together in one fruit is not a marketing point — it is straightforward biochemistry.
Fibre Content in Mangoes
Dietary fibre in mango includes both soluble and insoluble fractions. Soluble fibre slows glucose absorption. Insoluble fibre adds bulk and moves food through the gut. Neither fraction requires a supplement when you eat the whole fruit.
Mangoes as a Source of Potassium
Potassium supports normal muscle contraction and helps manage blood pressure by counterbalancing dietary sodium. Mango is a practical potassium source that most people will actually eat, unlike some less palatable options.
Other Vitamins and Minerals
Ripe Alphonso also delivers folate, vitamin B6, vitamin E and small amounts of magnesium and copper. None of these numbers alone is remarkable. Together, in a fruit that ripens to 24° Brix naturally on a hay bed in a temperature-controlled room in Mumbai, they add up to a genuinely dense nutritional package.
Health Benefits of Eating Alphonso Mangoes
Immunity-Boosting Power of Mangoes
Vitamin C supports the production and function of white blood cells. Beta-carotene maintains the integrity of mucosal surfaces — the first barrier between you and airborne pathogens. Eating one 100 g serving of ripe Alphonso delivers both at once. No supplement required, no pill to remember.
Digestive Health and Mango
Fibre regularises bowel movement. Ripe Alphonso pulp is also easy to digest — relevant if you are recovering from illness, introducing solid food to an infant (Alphonso puree is suitable from about 6 months as a serving suggestion, not medical advice), or simply eating more fruit and less processed food. The hay-ripened Alphonso we dispatch has no calcium carbide residue to interfere with gut chemistry.
Mangoes and Heart Health
Potassium, fibre and antioxidants in mango each have a documented relationship with cardiovascular markers. Fibre reduces LDL reabsorption. Potassium supports healthy blood pressure. Antioxidants reduce oxidative stress on arterial walls. Mango is not a drug — it is a fruit — but a diet that includes it regularly is measurably better for the heart than one that does not.
Mangoes and Blood Sugar
The Alphonso's Brix sits at 18–24° at full ripeness. That is genuinely sweet. Soluble fibre slows the glucose spike from that sugar, but moderation still matters. One serving of whole fruit, not juice, is the practical recommendation. Juice removes the fibre that moderates absorption.
Eye, Skin and Anti-Inflammatory Benefits
Mangoes for Eye Health
Beta-carotene converts to vitamin A in the liver. Vitamin A deficiency is the leading preventable cause of childhood blindness globally. You do not need a deficiency to benefit — adequate vitamin A also supports night vision and slows age-related macular changes. Alphonso's deep saffron colour is a reliable proxy for beta-carotene content. Pale, carbide-ripened fruit does not deliver the same.
Skin Health and Mango
Vitamin C is required for collagen synthesis. Without adequate collagen, skin loses elasticity. Vitamin A supports cell turnover in the epidermis. Both are present in a 100 g serving of ripe Alphonso. Topical mango preparations exist, but eating the fruit is simpler and the nutrient delivery is better understood.
Mangiferin and Anti-Inflammatory Activity
Mangiferin is a polyphenol found in mango pulp and peel. Govindappa et al. (2011) demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity in a cell study. This is a cell study, not a clinical trial — it tells us the mechanism is plausible, not that mango cures inflammation. That distinction matters. What it does confirm is that the bioactive compounds in Alphonso pulp are pharmacologically interesting, which is more than can be said for most sweet foods.
A Note on Cancer Prevention Claims
Some studies have examined mangiferin and other mango polyphenols in cancer cell lines. Cell studies show that these compounds can inhibit cancer cell growth in a dish. No clinical trial in humans has established mango consumption as a cancer preventive. We will not overstate this. What the evidence supports is that a diet rich in antioxidants and fibre — of which mango is one practical source — is associated with lower cancer risk in large observational studies.
Season, Ripening and Storage
When is Alphonso Mango Available?
The Alphonso season runs February to June, with peak fruit volume in March, April and May. Outside this window, we do not sell fresh Alphonso. Pre-orders open before dispatch season. Pre-orders can be cancelled only before dispatch — once the box is packed and handed to the courier, cancellation is not possible.
How We Ripen Alphonso Mangoes
Every fruit we dispatch is ripened naturally on a hay bed (Aadi ripening) in temperature-controlled rooms at our Mumbai packhouse. This is the traditional Konkan method. No ethylene chambers, no calcium carbide, no artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours the fruit rests on hay is monitored ripening, not gas-triggered ripening. Prashant Powle made this a non-negotiable from the first season in 2020 and nothing has changed since.
Source: Powle Home Foods (AlphonsoMango.in), natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening confirmed across all seasons since 2020; independently lab-tested by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., NABL-accredited, certificate TC-8284, report 01/ETHAP2500044 dated 5 April 2025 — all 28 residues within Codex maximum residue limits.
Storing Your Alphonso at Home
Fruit arrives at 70–80% ripeness. Keep it at room temperature. It will ripen fully within about three days of delivery. Once fully ripe, refrigerate and consume within a day or two. Do not refrigerate unripe Alphonso — cold interrupts ripening and damages cell structure, which shows as pitting and off-flavour.
What Happens if Fruit Arrives Damaged?
Report within 24 hours of delivery with photos or video of the fruit and packaging on WhatsApp. No physical return is required. We send a fresh replacement dispatch or credit your account for the next purchase. This policy has been in place and confirmed by Prashant Powle as of 21 September 2026.
Adding Alphonso Mango to a Balanced Diet
Moderation with Mangoes
One to two servings of 100–150 g per day fits within a balanced diet for most adults. The sugar content is real — Alphonso at 24° Brix is sweeter than most fruits — so pairing it with protein or fat slows absorption. A small bowl of Aamras with a meal is the traditional Konkan approach, and it is nutritionally sound.
Mangoes in Different Meals
Ripe Alphonso sliced over yoghurt at breakfast. Aamras with puri for lunch — this is not fusion cooking, it is how the fruit has been eaten in Konkan households for generations. Diced mango in a salad with lime and chilli for dinner. Mango pulp stirred into a smoothie. Each preparation preserves the fibre content when whole fruit is used.
One thing we do not do: sell mango juice. Juicing discards the fibre that matters most for blood sugar management. We sell the whole fruit and Aamras (pulp), not pressed juice. That is a deliberate choice, not a gap in the catalogue.

People Also Ask
What organ does mango help?
Mango supports several organs at once. Beta-carotene, which gives Alphonso its saffron-gold colour, converts to vitamin A that your retina and immune mucosal surfaces depend on. Vitamin C in the same 100 g serving supports collagen synthesis in skin and gut lining. Fibre and potassium also benefit the colon and cardiovascular muscle.
Ripe Alphonso at 18–24° Brix delivers all of this in one fruit, not a supplement stack.
What happens when you eat a mango daily?
Eating one 100 g serving of ripe Alphonso daily during the February–June season gives you roughly 30–36 mg of vitamin C — about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 daily requirement for adult men — plus beta-carotene, fibre and potassium. Over weeks, consistent fibre intake regularises digestion and vitamin C supports ongoing collagen and immune function.
The key is eating the whole fruit, not juice, so the soluble fibre that slows glucose absorption stays intact.
What is healthier, a mango or an apple?
Neither fruit beats the other on every measure, but they differ sharply. Alphonso mango at 18–24° Brix delivers more vitamin C per 100 g and significantly more beta-carotene than a typical apple. Apple edges ahead on certain polyphenols and fibre density. Mango adds mangiferin, a compound Govindappa et al. (2011) linked to anti-inflammatory activity in cell studies.
If vitamin A precursor and vitamin C are your priorities during March–May, ripe Alphonso is the stronger choice.
Can mango reduce belly fat?
Mango does not directly burn belly fat. No single fruit does. What ripe Alphonso does offer is soluble fibre, which slows glucose absorption and can reduce post-meal blood sugar spikes that drive fat storage over time. Eaten as part of a calorie-appropriate diet in the February–June season, one serving fits without excess energy.
The risk with Alphonso at 18–24° Brix is eating too many — the sweetness is genuine, so portion size matters.
