Delivery Across India

Orders placed before 12:00 noon IST Monday–Saturday dispatch the same day via BlueDart air cargo. Transit times: Metro cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata) — 1 day. Tier-2 cities — 1–2 days. Remote pin codes — 2–3 days.

Each box is packed in a double-corrugated outer carton with individual fruit tissue wrapping and a ventilated inner tray. The packaging prevents bruising during air transit — critical because ripe Alphonso skin is thin.

We do not ship mangoes July through January. Fresh Alphonso is simply not available from Konkan orchards in those months. Plan your order between March and June.

Nutritional Benefits of Mango in the 3rd Trimester

nutritional benefits of mango in the third trimester of pregnancy

The 3rd trimester spans weeks 28–40. The baby's brain, lungs, and immune system develop rapidly during this window. Nutrient demand peaks. Mango meets several of those demands directly.

Vitamin A and Beta-Carotene

One medium Alphonso mango provides roughly 25% of the daily recommended intake of Vitamin A. Vitamin A supports fetal lung maturation and skin development in the final weeks. The bright saffron flesh of Ratnagiri Alphonso is a reliable marker of high beta-carotene content.

Folate (Vitamin B9)

Folate remains critical through all trimesters. It supports neural tube integrity and red blood cell production. A 100 g serving of ripe Alphonso provides approximately 43 mcg of folate — a meaningful contribution to the 600 mcg daily target during pregnancy.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C boosts iron absorption — important when maternal blood volume is highest. One cup of mango provides roughly 60 mg of Vitamin C, meeting two-thirds of the pregnancy daily requirement. It also supports collagen production as the baby's connective tissue forms.

Dietary Fibre

Constipation is one of the most common complaints in the 3rd trimester. Mango delivers both soluble and insoluble fibre, supporting regular digestion without laxatives. One medium mango contains around 3 g of fibre.

Potassium and Magnesium

Potassium regulates blood pressure and fluid balance — both under strain in late pregnancy. Magnesium supports muscle function and reduces leg cramps, which are common in the third trimester.

Natural Sugars

Mango is moderately high in natural sugars (fructose and sucrose). Women with gestational diabetes should consult their doctor about portion size. For healthy pregnancies, one medium mango per day is a reasonable amount. Do not exceed two mangoes daily without dietary advice.

Is Mango Safe in the Third Trimester?

Can I Eat Mango at Night During the Third Trimester?

Yes — with a caveat. Eating mango late at night adds a sugar load close to bedtime. A small portion (half a mango) before 8 pm is fine. A full mango at 11 pm on an empty stomach may cause discomfort through heartburn, which is already common in the 3rd trimester as the uterus presses on the stomach. Read more about eating mango at night here.

Does Mango Cause Heat in Pregnancy?

Ripe mango eaten in moderation does not cause complications in pregnancy. The concern about "heat" applies to raw, unripe mango or very large quantities. Stick to one ripe Alphonso mango per day. Pair it with yogurt (dahi) to balance if you are sensitive.

What About Carbide-Ripened Mangoes?

This is the real concern. Calcium carbide releases acetylene gas and leaves residues. These residues are harmful to anyone — more so during pregnancy. AlphonsoMango.in mangoes are ripened exclusively in natural hay beds. No carbide is used. This is non-negotiable practice across all 48 villages of our sourcing network.

Is Mango Pulp (Aamras) Safe in the Third Trimester?

Yes, when made from ripe, GI-certified Alphonso mangoes without preservatives or artificial colours. Our Alphonso Aamras contains only mango pulp — no additives. It is pasteurised and sealed. Appropriate portion is 100–150 ml per serving.

Other Fruits Good in the Third Trimester

Mangoes work well alongside a varied fruit intake. Useful companions during the 3rd trimester include:

  • Dates: High in iron, fibre, and natural sugars. Studies suggest dates consumed in late pregnancy may support cervical ripening. We stock Medjool and Safawi dates.
  • Dried Prunes: Iron and fibre. Directly addresses constipation without stimulant laxatives. Buy dried prunes here.
  • Sweet Tamarind (Meethi Imli): Satisfies sour cravings safely. Contains tartaric acid which aids digestion. Buy sweet tamarind here.
  • Bananas: Potassium-rich. Gentle on the stomach. Good for leg cramp prevention.
  • Kiwi: Folate and Vitamin C. Supports immunity and iron absorption.
  • Oranges: Vitamin C and hydration. Easy to digest.

Natural Ripening: Why It Matters in Pregnancy

Prashant Powle has sourced Alphonso mangoes across 48 villages in Ratnagiri and Devgad since 2019. His selection rule is simple: only tree-ripened or hay-bed-ripened fruit leaves the orchard. In Velas village, Ratnagiri district, mangoes are packed the same day they are collected from the hay beds — typically between 5 am and 8 am — and reach the BlueDart facility before noon dispatch.

Hay-bed ripening takes 3–5 days after harvest. The mango releases its own ethylene gas within the insulated hay cover. No external chemical is needed. The result: consistent sweetness of 18 to 24 °Brix in Ratnagiri Alphonso and a fibre-intact, nutrient-preserved pulp that is safe at every stage of pregnancy.

Carbide-ripened fruit looks ready but tastes flat. More importantly, calcium carbide residue on the skin transfers to hands and then to the fruit surface when peeled. During pregnancy, avoiding such residues entirely is the safest choice.

How to Choose, Ripen and Store Mangoes in the Third Trimester

How to Choose a Ripe Alphonso Mango

A ripe Ratnagiri Alphonso has a deep yellow-saffron skin with occasional red blush. It yields gently to thumb pressure — firm but not hard. It smells floral and sweet at the stem end. Avoid any fruit with dark, sunken spots or fermented smell.

How to Ripen Mango at Home

Place unripe mangoes at room temperature in a paper bag or wrapped in newspaper. They ripen in 2–4 days. Do not refrigerate unripe mangoes — cold temperatures halt ripening and damage the pulp texture.

How to Store Ripe Mangoes

Once ripe, refrigerate and consume within 2–3 days. Whole ripe mango keeps better than cut mango. If you want to extend availability past June, freeze mango cubes in airtight bags. Frozen Alphonso pulp retains most nutritional value for up to 3 months.

How to Eat Mango Safely During Pregnancy

  • Wash the skin thoroughly before peeling.
  • Peel with a clean knife, not by biting the skin.
  • Eat fresh — avoid mango stored unrefrigerated for more than 4 hours after cutting.
  • One medium mango (approx. 200 g) per day is a safe quantity for most pregnancies.
  • Pair with protein (yogurt, paneer, nuts) to slow sugar absorption.
