Hapus mango from Ratnagiri is Alphonso grown in the Ratnagiri district of the Konkan coast, and it is GI-tagged in India under GI No. 139. We source across 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt, and a dozen starts from Rs 1,849.
What Hapus mango from Ratnagiri is

Hapus is the Marathi name for Alphonso, and Ratnagiri is the Konkan district most people think of when they say Hapus. Ratnagiri district has its headquarters in Ratnagiri town and lies on the western coast between the Arabian Sea and the Deccan Plateau. Neighbouring Sindhudurg district includes Devgad taluka, which is the other half of the famous Alphonso belt. Both districts are on the Konkan coast.
I run AlphonsoMango.in from Mumbai, and most of our customers write to ask for "Ratnagiri Hapus" by name. I like that, because it means they know what they want. The fruit is described as rich, creamy and non-fibrous, and it generally weighs 150 to 300 g. Harvest to ripening takes about 15 days, which is why picking, packing and ripening need care from start to finish.
Hapus, Alphonso and Ratnagiri ka aam
The same fruit goes by several names, and the confusion is real when you search. This list may help.
- Hapus or Hapus aam is the Maharashtra name.
- Hafus and Hafoos are common spellings in Gujarat and in Hindi-speaking markets.
- Alphonso is the English name, from Afonso de Albuquerque. Mango grafting was introduced in Portuguese Goa by Jesuit missionaries.
- Ratnagiri ka aam means the mango of Ratnagiri in Hindi, and people use it for Ratnagiri Alphonso.
Ratnagiri and Devgad are two places on the same coast, and both grow the same Alphonso variety. I do not rank one above the other, and our pages for Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango and Devgad Alphonso Mango are there so you can pick on size and budget. If you want the wider story of both places, read Ratnagiri and Devgad Hapus.
The GI tag and our certificate
Alphonso from the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt is GI-tagged in India (GI No. 139). A GI tag ties a product to a place, so a seller who uses the Ratnagiri name should be able to show papers. We hold GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260 (GI No. 139), and our Brand Facts page lists it, along with our FSSAI licence number 10020022011783. You can also read the public record of the Devgad Alphonso application on the GI Registry website, which shows it merged with the main Alphonso application.
Only Alphonso carries this GI claim from us. Kesar, pairi and everything else we sell are different products, and I do not use the tag for them.
How we source the fruit

Our Alphonso comes from 48 villages of the Ratnagiri and Devgad belt on the Konkan coast. I will not give a list of named farms, because I would rather keep that part honest and short: we buy across the belt and we know the villages. If you want to know where a particular box came from, write to us at support@alphonsomango.in before you order.
Over time we have served 47,000+ customers, including offline and marketplace sales. We started selling mangoes offline in 2019 and online in 2020. That history matters here, because a buyer who orders Hapus year after year learns quickly which seller keeps to what it says.
Picking, ripening and carbide
Our fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, so that mangoes do not fall and bruise. Harvest is done at Brahma Muhurta, before dawn, for all Alphonso. After that the fruit ripens naturally in a controlled way over several days. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds.
Selling fruit ripened with calcium carbide (acetylene) gas is prohibited in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. Ethylene, up to 100 ppm, is the permitted alternative. Ask this question of any seller, in any city, whatever the brand. If you want to learn how to read the fruit itself, see how to identify Alphonso mango. No home test is proof.
Sizes and price

We sell by the dozen, and a dozen weighs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 kg depending on grade, so I do not quote a per-kilo price. Ratnagiri Alphonso starts from Rs 1,849 per dozen, and the largest Ratnagiri option goes up to Rs 5,399. The order-online page lists larger options, up to Rs 10,499. These are "from" prices from the live store, so check the product page for the price of the size you want.

How to order and delivery
- Choose a size on the Ratnagiri or Devgad product page.
- Add it to your cart and enter your address and PIN code at checkout.
- Pay, and we dispatch by Blue Dart.
About 65% of Indian PIN codes get next-day delivery, and the rest take longer. I do not promise a day for a named city, because the PIN code decides it. Report any damage within 24 hours of delivery by writing to support@alphonsomango.in. For aamras or a dessert after the fruit arrives, our aamras recipe is a good start. We also supply restaurants and hotels, and gifts to several addresses are easiest through the gift form.
Season and off-season options
Alphonso is harvested from about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Outside that window we do not sell fresh Alphonso, and the fresh listings show as unavailable. Our Alphonso Mango Pulp Tin stays available all year.
