Ratnagiri vs Devgad: Which to Choose?
Both carry GI No. 139. The difference is style — Ratnagiri fruit tends toward a slightly higher fibre structure; Devgad fruit is denser, with Brix readings consistently at the upper end of the 18–24° range. Our repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers shows north India leans Ratnagiri, while Mumbai customers prefer Devgad. Bangalore buyers split roughly evenly — if this is your first order, start with Devgad.

Delivery to Bangalore
Fruit leaves the Mumbai packhouse via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code. Bangalore is 1–3 days from dispatch. We cover 15,000–17,000 serviceable pin codes across India — most Bangalore localities fall within that network.
We dispatch at 70–80% ripeness. The fruit is firm enough to survive transit and reaches full ripeness within about three days of delivery. If your order arrives with transit damage or quality failure, photograph or video the fruit and packaging and send it to us on WhatsApp within 24 hours of delivery. No physical return is needed. We replace with a fresh dispatch or credit your account for the next purchase.
One honest limit: we do not sell fresh Alphonso between July and January. The season ends in June. If you are reading this outside February–June, you can pre-order for the next season — but fresh fruit will not dispatch until the orchards in Devgad and Ratnagiri are harvesting again.
How to Order
- Step 1 — Select your grade. Choose Ratnagiri Alphonso (from ₹1,849) or Devgad Alphonso (from ₹1,849) by fruit size: Small (150–180 g), Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g) or Jumbo (275–300 g). Available in half dozen, 1 dozen and 2 dozen boxes.
- Step 2 — Add to cart and check out. Complete your order on the product page; your Bangalore pin code determines which courier picks up your box.
- Step 3 — We dispatch. Your box goes out via BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code and arrives in 1–3 days to most Bangalore addresses.
Where These Mangoes Come From
Prashant Powle built the sourcing network from 2017 across 55 named villages in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. In Devgad taluka alone, we source from Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Hindale, Girye, Kunkeshwar and 17 more villages. In Ratnagiri taluka: Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mirya, Kalbadevi and others. The orchards are 12–25 years old, sea-facing, selected for Brix consistency and alternate-bearing management.
Over 100 partner farmer families follow strict cultivation SOPs — specific natural sprays and fertilisers from flowering to harvest, no shortcuts. Every batch is tested through the season at Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane (NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284). Their April 2025 report (01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025) found all 28 tested residues within Codex maximum residue limits, with 27 of 28 below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). We say "independently tested, all residues within Codex limits" — not "pesticide-free," because one residue (thiamethoxam at 0.013 mg/kg against a Codex limit of 0.2 mg/kg) was detected, within limits.
Ripening: Why No Carbide Matters
Every mango on this site is ripened on a hay bed — what growers in Konkan call Aadi ripening — in temperature-controlled rooms at our Mumbai packhouse. The fruit spends 24–48 hours there before dispatch. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind.
Carbide-ripened mangoes hit a uniform yellow fast. The inside is often pale and starchy near the seed. Hay-bed ripening lets the fruit produce its own ethylene at its own pace. The result is the saffron-gold colour through the full cross-section — not just the skin — and the aroma that Alphonso is known for.
We cannot certify carbide-free by lab test. The Envirocare Labs panel does not test for calcium carbide. What we can say: our process uses no carbide, our hay-bed rooms are monitored, and 46% of our customers reorder — which is a reasonable proxy for whether the fruit delivers what it promises.
Grading and Packing
Every fruit is weighed and graded. AI/ML-assisted machine scanning checks each mango for internal defects (spongy tissue is a known problem in Alphonso, caused by heat stress during flowering) and external deformities before packing. Each fruit goes into a foam-net sleeve (flat width 50–55 mm, length 100–120 mm by fruit size) and sits in a 12-slot partition inside a 5-ply corrugated fibreboard box. The partition takes transit pressure; the fruit does not. Six air holes, top and bottom, keep airflow moving during ripening after delivery.
Harvest itself is careful: a Nutan/Zela pole with a catching net cuts and catches each fruit. The tree is never shaken. Fruit never falls to the ground. For tall trees, an indigenously developed length-extending pole with a camera is used.
How to Verify GI Authentication
GI No. 139 covers Alphonso mango from Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Powle Home Foods holds GI Authorised User certificate AU/5974/GI/139/260, GI Registry Certificate No. 4163, issued 16 October 2019. You can verify the GI number at ipindia.gov.in. FSSAI licence 10020022011783 is verifiable at foscos.fssai.gov.in. APEDA registration 225579 is verifiable at apeda.gov.in.
Ratnagiri Alphonso also won the Gold Medal at the national One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2024 — a district-product recognition, not specific to AlphonsoMango.in, but an indication of how seriously the Maharashtra government treats provenance for this fruit.
What is the Brix level of Devgad Alphonso?
Devgad Alphonso Brix at full ripeness sits in the 18–24° range, typically toward the upper end — consistent with the denser pulp and concentrated sugar-acid balance that makes it the preferred gifting variety among our corporate buyers. The TNAU Agritech Portal and ICAR-CISH Lucknow both document Alphonso's Brix range in the same band.
Does Alphonso mango have vitamin C?
Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 RDA for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Nutrition data is cross-referenced against USDA FoodData Central and National Mango Board guidance.

People Also Ask
Why is hapus mango expensive?
Hapus is expensive because the yield is small, the season runs only February to June, and every fruit is hand-harvested from sea-facing Konkan orchards without shaking the tree. Grading, hay-bed ripening, AI-assisted scanning, cold-chain transport and courier delivery all add cost before the box reaches Bangalore.
The Ratnagiri Alphonso GI No. 139 designation also limits supply to specific villages in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts — you cannot substitute a cheaper mango from another region and call it Hapus.
Is Alphonso mango the same as Hapus?
Yes. Alphonso and Hapus are the same fruit. "Hapus" is the Marathi name used across Konkan, Mumbai and Pune; "Alphonso" is the English name used in export markets and on GI documentation. Both refer to the variety that carries GI Tag No. 139 covering Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra.
When you order from alphonsomango.in, the box carries GI authorisation AU/5974/GI/139/260 confirming the fruit is authentic Hapus from those districts.
Which mango is best in Bangalore?
For Bangalore buyers who want the most recognised premium variety, Devgad Alphonso (Hapus) is the strongest choice. It carries GI No. 139, Brix of 18–24° (typically at the upper end for Devgad), and arrives in 1–3 days from the Mumbai packhouse via air-conditioned cold chain — firm at delivery, fully ripe within three days.
Bangalore buyers on this site split roughly evenly between Ratnagiri and Devgad; if it is your first order, start with Devgad for its denser pulp and sea-breeze finish.
What is the difference between Alphonso mango and Super Alphonso mango?
"Super Alphonso" is a commercial grade label, not a separate variety — it refers to extra-large or jumbo Alphonso fruit weighing 250 g and above. The variety, origin, flavour profile and GI No. 139 status are identical to standard Alphonso; the only difference is fruit size and the higher price per dozen that comes with it.
On alphonsomango.in, the equivalent grades are Extra Large (250–275 g) and Jumbo (275–300 g), available in Ratnagiri and Devgad options from ₹1,849 per dozen upward depending on grade.
