Alphonso Mango Freight Forwarder Quotation Request

By Prashant Powle  •  0 comments  •   6 minute read

A busy airport cargo terminal in Mumbai showing stacks of Fresh Alphonso Mangoes boxed for export, while logistics officers in high-visibility vests inspect the cargo and review paperwork near an air cargo airplane on the tarmac.

A freight forwarder quotation request for Alphonso mangoes needs the origin, destination, quantity, box weights, temperature needs, timing and paperwork stated up front. AlphonsoMango.in is APEDA-registered (225579) and names the US, UK, UAE, Singapore and Japan as export markets by air, March to June. Export rates and terms are not published; ask in writing.

Why a quotation request needs structure

A forwarder cannot price a shipment from a one-line message. Fresh mangoes are not like cartons of tiles. They are perishable, temperature-sensitive and subject to the rules of the destination country, so a vague request produces a vague quote, and a vague quote produces surprises on the invoice.

The buyer who writes a clear request gets a comparable quote from three forwarders and can make a real decision. This article sets out how to write one, and where the seller’s side of the paperwork fits in.

What the store publishes on export

  • APEDA registration 225579, and an export page naming the US, UK, UAE, Singapore and Japan as markets, with shipments by air from March to June. See the export page and the APEDA page.
  • FSSAI Central Licence 10020022011783.
  • GI Authorised User AU/5974/GI/139/260 (Alphonso) and AU/6932 (Devgad).

Not published: export price lists, minimum export quantities, incoterms offered, phytosanitary and treatment arrangements, freight-forwarder partnerships and export paperwork details. These are for the team to confirm, case by case. Write to support@alphonsomango.in or WhatsApp +91 70830 75556. Our guide how to buy Alphonso mangoes for export covers the buyer side in more depth.

What to put in the request

  1. Origin. Mumbai area, with the pickup address supplied by the seller once agreed.
  2. Destination. Airport and final delivery address, country and city.
  3. Product. Fresh Alphonso mangoes, variety and origin (Ratnagiri or Devgad).
  4. Quantity. Number of boxes, boxes per consignment and consignments per week.
  5. Box details. Gross and net weight and dimensions per box. For reference, our retail fruit weights run 150–300 g per fruit across five grades.
  6. Temperature. Required range, and whether the cargo is to be held at a cool-chain facility.
  7. Timing. Earliest pickup and the date by which the cargo must land.
  8. Mode. Air is the usual choice for fresh mangoes; state if you want to compare sea.
  9. Terms. The incoterm you want quoted (EXW, FOB, CIF, DAP), and who clears customs at the destination.
  10. Documents. What you need: invoice, packing list, phytosanitary certificate, certificate of origin, and any destination-specific certificates.
  11. Insurance. Cover required and declared value.
  12. Validity. How long the quote should stand, given that rates move through the season.

A sample request, in plain words

The request below is a template. Replace the placeholders.

We need an air-freight quotation for fresh Alphonso mangoes from Mumbai to [airport, country]. Quantity: [number] boxes per week for [number] weeks, from [date] to [date]. Each box: [gross weight] kg gross, [dimensions]. Temperature requirement: [range]. Please quote on [incoterm], including origin handling, air freight, documentation and, if applicable, destination clearance. Please list every charge separately, state the chargeable weight basis, and tell us the validity of the quote and the cut-off times for each departure. Confirm which export documents you handle and which the shipper must supply.

Send the same text to each forwarder. Then compare line by line.

Reading the quotation you get back

  • Chargeable weight. Air freight is billed on the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Mango cartons are bulky; check which applies.
  • Surcharges. Fuel and security surcharges are often separate and move week to week.
  • Origin and destination charges. Handling, terminal and clearance fees are billed apart from the freight itself.
  • Currency. Which currency, and on what exchange-rate date.
  • Exclusions. Duty, tax, inspection fees, storage and demurrage are typically excluded.
  • Liability. What the forwarder covers if the fruit is delayed or damaged.

Use a made-up case to see why this matters. Suppose forwarder A quotes a lower per-kilo rate than B but excludes terminal handling. B includes it. The cheaper-looking quote may end up more expensive. Only an itemised comparison reveals that.

How an order reaches you

Retail orders inside India follow a simpler path. Fruit is harvested to order, packed against the order and shipped semi-ripe by BlueDart to serviceable PIN codes; delivery is free on every order. Orders placed before 1:00 PM IST dispatch the same day, Monday to Saturday. Payment is prepaid only (UPI, cards, net banking or wallets), tracking comes by email and WhatsApp, and claims are accepted within 24 hours of delivery with photos or video and the order number. The season is usually February to June, and the 2027 season is listed to start on 1 February 2027. An export consignment is separate and is arranged with the team. For friends and family abroad, the NRI gift page may be simpler. Policies: shipping, returns.

Ripening and the destination country: carbide

Importing countries inspect fruit, and chemical ripening is a compliance risk as well as a health one. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally (on hay beds, as our FAQ states). Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. It releases acetylene and can carry arsenic and phosphorus impurities; the street name is "masala". Controlled ethylene is permitted up to 100 ppm. A white or grey calcium hydroxide residue is a warning sign. The float test is a rough clue at best, and only a lab test proves it. The Brand Facts page states weekly testing by Envirocare Labs; results are not published here, so ask what documentation can be shared for an export lot.
