Which Online Platform Guarantees Genuine GI Tagged Ratnagiri Hapus?

No platform can make a mango genuine by saying so; what you can do is verify the seller. AlphonsoMango.in is a GI Authorised User for Alphonso (AU/5974/GI/139/260) and Devgad (AU/6932), and sells Ratnagiri Hapus online. Look up any seller's authorised-user number on the GI Registry before you pay.

Why "guarantee" is the wrong word

A guarantee is a promise by someone you can hold to account. Most online platforms are marketplaces: they host many sellers, take a commission and are not the maker of the fruit. A marketplace can remove a listing after a complaint. It cannot stand behind the contents of each box.

So the useful question is not which platform guarantees genuine Hapus, but which seller can show you, in a form you can check, that it has the right to use the name. That is a matter of paperwork you can verify, and it takes ten minutes.

What the GI tag actually covers

A Geographical Indication protects a name tied to a place. The Alphonso (Hapus) GI is registered with the Geographical Indications Registry. GI Tag No. 139 covers Alphonso, and the certificate, No. 4163, was issued on 16 October 2019. Devgad Alphonso is covered separately, which is why a seller can hold two authorised-user numbers.

The tag tells you about origin and the right to use the name. It does not, by itself, tell you the fruit was ripened safely or packed carefully. Treat it as the first check, not the last. I explain the certificate in more depth on the GI tag certificate articles.

How to verify a seller in five steps

  1. Ask for the authorised-user number. A seller entitled to use the GI name will have one. If the answer is vague, move on.
  2. Check it on ipindia.gov.in. Search the Registry for the GI and the list of authorised users. Compare the name on the register with the name of the business taking your money.
  3. Check the food licence. Look up the FSSAI licence number on fssai.gov.in.
  4. Check the address. A real business has a postal address that matches its registrations, not just a phone number.
  5. Check the policy pages. Dispatch, refunds and claim windows should be in writing, not offered by voice note.

If a seller passes four of five, ask about the fifth. If it passes three, I would hold back.

What AlphonsoMango.in publishes

  • GI Authorised User AU/5974/GI/139/260 (Alphonso) and AU/6932 (Devgad).
  • FSSAI Central Licence 10020022011783.

I have listed the numbers so that you do not have to take my word for them. The Ratnagiri fruit is sold on the Ratnagiri Alphonso page; the Devgad fruit on the Devgad page. A dozen costs ₹1,849 (small, 150–180 g), ₹2,099 (medium), ₹2,499 (large), ₹2,699 (extra large) or ₹2,999 (jumbo, 275–300 g). Delivery is free.

Red flags on marketplaces and social pages

  • "GI certified" printed on a listing with no number and no seller name.
  • A price so low that it could not cover the fruit, never mind the courier.
  • The same photo used by many sellers, or a stock image of mangoes from another country.
  • Cash on delivery as the only option, or a request to pay a personal UPI ID.
  • A seller that cannot say which district the fruit comes from.

None of these proves fraud alone. Together they are a strong reason to look elsewhere. For a broader comparison of buying routes, read our guide to direct sellers versus marketplaces.

How an order reaches you

Our fruit is harvested to order and packed against your order, then shipped semi-ripe. Orders received before 1:00 PM IST dispatch the same day, Monday to Saturday, by BlueDart to serviceable PIN codes. About 14,000 PINs are not yet served; the product page tells you before payment. Delivery is free. Payment is prepaid: UPI, cards, net banking or wallets, no cash on delivery. Tracking is sent by email and WhatsApp.

If a box is damaged or does not match what you ordered, report it within 24 hours of delivery with photos or video and the order number. Approved refunds are paid within 7 business days. Read the shipping policy and return policy. The season is usually February to June, and the 2027 season is listed to start on 1 February 2027.

Genuine also means safely ripened

Real Ratnagiri fruit can still be ruined at the ripening stage. We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally (on hay beds, as our FAQ states). Calcium carbide is banned for ripening in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. It releases acetylene and can carry arsenic and phosphorus impurities; sellers call it "masala". FSSAI permits controlled ethylene up to 100 ppm. A white or grey powder (calcium hydroxide) in the carton is a warning sign. The bucket float test is a rough clue only, and only a lab test proves it. The ripening guide shows what normal ripening looks like.
