Most Mumbai shoppers who search for a mango store are looking for one thing: fruit that was on the tree in Konkan two or three days ago, not sitting in a cold room for a fortnight. That is what AlphonsoMango.in ships. Fruit is dispatched at 70–80% ripeness and ripens fully within about three days of reaching you — no cold-store blending, no artificial agents, just Konkan Alphonso that tastes the way it should.

Ratnagiri vs Devgad: Which to Choose?

Both carry GI No. 139. The difference is real but subtle — and repeat-order data from 47,000+ customers shows a clear split: north India orders lean Ratnagiri; Mumbai regulars lean Devgad.

Mango Delivery to Mumbai

Fruit leaves the Konkan within 48–72 hours of harvest. Air-conditioned vehicles carry it from the Ratnagiri or Devgad packhouse to Mumbai, where it rests on a hay bed for 24–48 hours before dispatch. Metro Mumbai typically receives orders in 20–24 hours from dispatch; outer Mumbai and suburbs within 1–3 days. Your courier is BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees depending on your pin code — we cover 15,000–17,000 pin codes across India.

Fruit arrives at 70–80% ripeness — firm, fragrant, with the skin just starting to blush. It reaches full ripeness on your countertop within three days. If you receive transit-damaged or quality-failed fruit, photograph or video it and send via WhatsApp within 24 hours of delivery. No physical return is needed; we dispatch a fresh replacement or credit your account for the next purchase.

We do not sell fresh Alphonso from July to January. That is honest: the tree does not produce, so we do not pretend it does.

Where the Mangoes Come From

We source from 55 named villages across Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. In Devgad taluka alone: Devgad, Jamsande, Vijaydurg, Dahibav, Kunkeshwar, Mithbav, Waghotan and more than a dozen others. In Ratnagiri taluka: Pawas, Golap, Nachane, Mirya, Kalbadevi and others. Each partner orchard — we work with 100+ farmer families — is selected on Brix consistency, tree age (typically 12–25 years old, sea-facing), and alternate-bearing management. Cultivation follows SOPs that specify which natural sprays and fertilisers apply from flowering to harvest.

Prashant Powle built this network village by village after founding AlphonsoMango.in in 2017. He was quoted in The Economic Times in June 2026 as a GI-certified Alphonso grower and trader on the effect of weather on yield — which tells you how the sourcing relationships work: close enough that we hear about crop stress before it reaches the market.

Every fruit is weighed and graded — Small (150–180 g), Medium (180–225 g), Extra Large (250–275 g), Jumbo (275–300 g) — then scanned by AI/ML-assisted equipment that checks for internal problems like spongy tissue and external deformities. The ones that don't pass do not ship.

How the Fruit is Ripened

Natural hay-bed (Aadi) ripening, in temperature-controlled rooms. No ethylene chambers. No calcium carbide. No artificial ripening agents of any kind. The 24–48 hours the fruit spends at the Mumbai packhouse is monitored hay-ripening — not gas-triggered.

This matters because carbide-ripened Alphonso looks yellow but tastes flat. The Brix is lower; the aroma does not develop the same way. Hay-bed ripening lets the fruit follow its own timeline, which is why a 22° Brix Devgad fruit from Kunkeshwar smells the way it should when you open the box.

Independently tested by Envirocare Labs Pvt. Ltd., Thane (NABL accredited, certificate TC-8284, report 01/ETHAP2500044, issued 5 April 2025): all 28 residues within Codex maximum residue limits; 27 of 28 below the limit of quantification (0.01 mg/kg). We call this "independently tested, all residues within Codex limits" — not "pesticide-free," because one residue (thiamethoxam, 0.013 mg/kg against a limit of 0.2 mg/kg) was detected within limits.

What does hay-bed ripening actually do?

Hay insulates and absorbs moisture, keeping the microenvironment around the fruit stable. The mango produces its own ethylene as it ripens — hay does not add anything; it just keeps conditions even. The result is a fruit that ripens uniformly from skin to seed, without the hard-at-the-core, soft-at-the-skin problem you get from forced ripening.

Season and Availability

Alphonso season runs February to June, with peak supply in March, April and May. By late June, the crop is done. We ship nothing from July to January — no fresh Alphonso exists in that window from GI-compliant Konkan orchards, and we do not substitute with cold-stored or off-region fruit.

Pre-orders open before the season. If you missed the season, Konkan W180 cashews are available year-round, and Alphonso mango pulp ships outside season as well.

Ratnagiri Alphonso won the Gold Medal at the national One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2024 — a district-level recognition, not an award specific to AlphonsoMango.in, but relevant context for anyone asking why Ratnagiri fruit commands a premium.

How to Order

  1. Step 1 — Select grade. Visit the Devgad Alphonso product page, choose the grade that fits your household — Small through Jumbo — and pick a box size (half dozen, 1 dozen or 2 dozen). Prices start at ₹1,849.
  2. Step 2 — Add to cart. Confirm your Mumbai delivery pin code at checkout; the site assigns your courier (BlueDart, Delhivery, Ekart or XpressBees) automatically.
  3. Step 3 — Dispatch. Your order is dispatched within the season window; transit to Mumbai takes 20–24 hours for most pin codes, up to 3 days for outer areas. You receive a tracking link at dispatch.

Nutrition at a Glance

Ripe Alphonso pulp contains roughly 30–36 mg vitamin C per 100 g. A 100 g serving meets about 40–45% of the ICMR-NIN 2020 recommended daily allowance for adult men (80 mg/day) and about 50% for adult women (65 mg/day). Mangiferin, a compound in mango, showed anti-inflammatory activity in a cell study by Govindappa et al., 2011 — worth knowing, though a cell study is not a clinical trial.

Alphonso puree is suitable for babies from about 6 months as a serving suggestion — this is not medical advice; check with your paediatrician for your child's specific needs.
