What to order, and what it costs
- Ratnagiri Alphonso Mango and Devgad Alphonso Mango: from Rs 1,849 per dozen. Ratnagiri is a district and Devgad a taluka in Sindhudurg district; both grow the same variety, and we do not rank one above the other.
- Kesar mango: half-dozen Rs 999, dozen Rs 1,699.
- Pairi mango: from Rs 2,799 per dozen.
- Alphonso mango pulp tin: 850 g and 3.1 kg, from Rs 590, all year.

Ripening in Mumbai humidity
We do not use carbide. Our Alphonso mangoes are ripened naturally on hay beds. Calcium carbide is prohibited for ripening fruit in India under Regulation 2.3.5 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. We are an FSSAI-licensed seller. Fruit is hand-harvested with a zela pole fitted with a catching net, and harvest to ripening takes about 15 days.
- Mumbai is warm and humid, and fruit softens quickly. Lay it in one layer in a ventilated room, away from sun.
- Check daily from the second day; a sweet smell at the stalk and slight give mean ripe.
- Do not refrigerate firm fruit. Chill only soft ripe fruit you cannot finish.

Season and eating
Alphonso is harvested about February to June, with the best supply from March to May. The 2027 season opens on 1 February 2027. Fresh Alphonso is not sold outside the season; pulp tins are available all year. In a Mumbai kitchen the usual use is aamras with puri or chapati; see our aamras recipe.

Six questions to ask any Mumbai mango seller
Whether you buy at a market, from a vendor or on a website, the same six questions separate a careful seller from a careless one. Use them for us too.
- Which district is this from? Ratnagiri, Devgad and the wider Sindhudurg belt are the Alphonso heartland; a vague answer tells you little.
- Which variety exactly? Alphonso, Kesar, Pairi and others differ in size, pulp and price. The name should match the fruit and the price.
- How was it ripened? Ask plainly. Carbide is banned for ripening fruit in India, and the answer should be quick and clear.
- What is the grade and count per dozen? Price means little without it.
- How and when will it reach me? Ask who delivers and what happens if you are out.
- Who do I call if something is wrong? A named person with a phone number beats a form.
